It has been given some of the new features found in the top of the line Nikon D series, one of them the highly acclaimed 3 in. VGA viewscreen. Equipped with Life View with contrast-detect AF that includes Face Detection Technology, the big surprise to some reviewers is that it has the first DSLR Movie mode with HDTV quality. The D90 was built for two markets: as a transition from a compact and as a camera for serious amateurs wanting expert photographic control at a lower cost and less weight than the top of the line, professional cameras. Posted 1 year ago - Nikon rocked the DSLR world when they introduced their D90 SLR early this Fall, the first SLR that can record movies. Its video capabilities won't replace dedicated camcorders, but will provide welcome relief for photographers tired of carrying along a pocket digicam just for taking "video snapshots". Its movie recording is only one of the many exceptional features the Nikon D90 has to offer. It also incorporates the chromatic aberration correction capability first introduced in the D3 and D300 high-end models. This feature works regardless of the brand lens you're using, so the D90 promises to improve the quality of most any lens you use it with. Speaking of lenses, the Nikon D90 ships with one of the nicest kit lenses we've seen yet, a 18-105mm VR (vibration reduction, Nikon's name for Image Stabilization) model that delivers very good sharpness, and (thanks to the aforementioned CA-reduction capability of the camera) very little chromatic aberration. The Nikon D90 brings much, much more to the table, though, far more than we can go into here. If you're in the market for a high-end prosumer digital SLR camera, the Nikon D90 deserves to be near the top of your list for consideration. Posted 1 year ago - The Nikon D90 is a feature-packed DSLR which inherits key features from the semi-pro D300, while adding unique capabilities of its own. As the long-awaited successor to the popular D80, it brings that model bang up-to-date with the latest features and gadgetry. So you get the same 12.3 Megapixel resolution, 3in VGA screen and HDMI port of the D300 in a body that shares the excellent build, viewfinder and AF system of the D80. On top of that the D90 features Live View and becomes the first DSLR in the World to boast video recording capabilities, including a 720p HD mode with mono sound. It’s certainly a compelling proposition and as a stills camera, the D90 handles beautifully. The video capability is less consistent though, and there’s also some very tough rivals at the same price point. Posted 1 year ago - The last Nikon digital SLR I reviewed was the D60, and to be honest, it didn't do much for me. My impression of the D90 is the total opposite: it blew me away. In terms of photo quality, manual controls, performance, customizability, and yes, its movie mode, the D90 is a home run. There are a few annoyances, such as slow focusing in live view mode and horrible bundled RAW editing software, but the positives far outweigh the negatives.
