Posted Jun 18, 2006 - Has anyone tried either camera? Other than the size/compactness & the flip-out screen & battery differences, are there any major differences in features/usage or quality between the 2 cameras? I think the SD500 is also a 7mp camera. Thanks!!

Discussion of Canon EOS Rebel XT 8 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body Only - 0.71"-2.17" - Black
Posted Jun 8, 2006 - I recently acquired a Canon Digital Rebel XT with the standard 18-55mm lens and am extremely pleased with my purchase. I want to add a telephoto lens to venture back into photographic subjects I have ignored while using less capable digital cameras and solicit opinions from forum members on this topic. Off the top, I am considering a Canon 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 II/III USM EF Lens for $270 - given the perspective of digital vs 35mm (due to the smaller footprint of the sensor), that equates to around a 110-480mm zoom with reasonably fast apertures. There are some non-USM lenses attractively priced and I am novice enough with digital SLR's to only guess that the AF action on those would be noisier and slower, but comments would be welcomed. With 35mm photography, I generally limited myself to 200mm f4 but always felt the extra reach of a 300mm would have been useful. So even a 55-200mm seems likely to achieve that objective. But the added zoom to comparable 400mm plus is enticing. With less than a month of digital SLR experience, I truly would appreciate some advice from those who are more knowledgeable.

Posted Jun 2, 2006 - I am interested in purchasing a compact point-n-shoot which would be good for low-light settings such as bars or night-clubs. At the moment, I have it narrowed down to the DSC T-30 and the Canon Powershot SD 630. The SD 630 is a little smaller, and about $100 less. However, it does not have an image stabilizer. Any advice on which way to go?
Discussion of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T30 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera - Silver
Posted Jun 1, 2006 - I am looking for a compact point-n-shoot which takes good pics in a low light setting such as a bar or night club. I am undecided between this and 2 other cams. I like the fact that the Sony DSC T-30 has an image stabilizer and 3" screen. However, the Canon Powershot SD 630 is slightly smaller and also has a 3" screen (but no image stabilizer). The Canon Powershot SD 700 has an image stabilizer, but a smaller 2.5" LCD. It is larger than the 630, and probably larger than the T-30 (although I did not directly compare these 2). How important is an image stabilizer for what I need? Also, are the T-30 and SD 700 worth the $100 price premium over the SD 630? Also, someone mentioned the 700 does not have problems with red-eye? How is this so, and how do the T-30 and SD 630 fare in this area. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Posted Apr 17, 2006 - I've had my camera and card for 6 months. Occasionally (1 out of 20 or so), I will get the error "Write error, please check card". The occurs while I am recording 320x240 30 FPS video. The video file is then 0 KB. I can keep taking videos and everything is fine. This is just an occasional annoyance. I tried the card clean up feature, and reformatted afterwards. Still get the error sometimes. Does anyone else have this error? I am trying to see if it is the camera, or the card. I scanned the card in my computer and it found no bad sectors. This can happen at any random place on the card, not the same place every time. My guess is error checking - there is an error while writing to the card (perhaps speed or a bad checksum) and the camera is forced to dump the file. It would really suck if that happened while trying to record a once in a lifetime video!

Posted Apr 17, 2006 - When the LCD is on in photo mode the screen movement replicates real movement, but when any of the manual flash settings are applied, the screen movement slows up considerably when moving the camera around. I am not sure if I am missing a setting here or if there is something wrong with the camera - I previously owned a T1 with no problems - I can't believe this is normal! Can anyone help?!

Discussion of Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 6 Megapixel Bridge Camera - Black
Posted Apr 13, 2006 - I recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7K digital camera. The package included wide and telephoto conversion lenses. The conversion lenses have a 52mm thread. The camera has non-standard (smaller than 55mm but larger than 52 mm) lens/filter mounting threads. The Panasonic lens hood adapter works and accepts 52mm filters/accessories, but with its non-standard size, one cannot use a standard 55mm to 52mm step-down ring. The Panasonic lens hood adapter results in a barrel aberration when used with the 2X conversion lens. Does anyone have a solution besides the horribly overpriced ($49) and 2 month backordered lens adapter?

Posted Apr 8, 2006 - Well I've been waiting for the FXO1 to come out now and when it finally did and I've been reading really bad reviews about it. They said that the pictures are really noise under low light conditions. While the FX9 didn't have much of a noise problems as the FX01. So right now I'm not sure which one to get. I was going to get the FX9 and then I read that the FX01 was going to come out so I decided to wait, but not I have second thoughts on waiting. So what do you guys suggest?
