The drummer-friendly and stylish design of the Yamaha DD-65 marks a transition to a more professional and versatile digital-drumming instrument. AUX IN jack lets you connect an MP3 player and play along with your favorite music or load MIDI songs from the Internet into the internal Flash ROM memory and play along. New stereo-sampled voices, a wide variety of percussion sounds from all over the world, a bass boost system and digital stereo processing give the DD-65 an irresistible, thundering beat. The panel includes intuitive features that are easy to operate. For example, select the Hand Percussion mode and the kit automatically switches to percussion voices like congas and bongos. With its powerful features, this is no toy. Anyone can enjoy it. minimize

4 Star Review sounds better than it looks

Strengths:

portability

Weaknesses:

limited expandability

Posted 1 year ago - I've picked up drum sticks after a decade of lull. Now with a family and all, I couldn't effectively deal with the space or the noise of a drum set. So, a small electronic drum set like this DD65 was a necessary compromise. As you can tell, I was skeptical at first. After living with it for a couple of months, I am very satisfied with the portability and even the sound. Of course, the built-in amp/speakers are too weak, but it sounds pretty nice with a good external amp. A good set of headphones will also bring out good sounds. Of course, its real appeal is the portability. As you can imagine, it's so easy to take it with you anywhere. However, I recommend buy the kick drum pedal KP65. It's not possible to play a serious bass drum beat on the included foot pedal. Unfortunately, this adds some bulk. Also, buy the power adapter PA150. Cons are that it has inputs for no external pads. The eight built-in pads are barely enough. The pads are small, and they are sensitive only near the very center. You can assign custom sounds to each pad, but you can't adjust the sensitivity of each pad. It takes a while to get used to this set. All in all, I have no regrets buying this set. It's fun!!!

4 Star Review Yamaha Drums

Strengths:

Many options, easy to use

Weaknesses:

Not very loud, should come with wall adapter

Posted Dec 30, 2007 - I got this set for my 14-year old that was interested in drumming. He wanted to get a whole set, but I want to make sure he is interested. He has been playing with the set since we got it. We have just started using the set, but here is what I know so far: The sweet spots on the pads are not as big as the pads. You have to hit pretty-much in the middle to get sound. Make sure you buy the wall adapter. I made my own, but I would not recommend this for everyone.
