Impressive

Strengths: Sharp looking, easy setup.

Weakness: Having a small problem with subtitles, the machine seems to be defaulting to subtitles on and have had troubles changing the setting

Looks good out of the box. I have read reviews before of others who have had troubles getting a good picture using HDMI. I simply connected cables and started enjoying. No tweaking was involved. I purchased with a 1080p televeision but was dissapointed to find out the TV, though 1080p, will not accept 1080p signals. So unfortunatley I can not comment on the DVD player's true 1080p potential.

Samsung DVD-HD960

Strengths: Awesome picture & audio quality!

Weakness: None

I am a professional wedding videographer who needed a newer up-converting DVD player to connect to my new HDTV, a Samsung 56" HL-S5687W 1080P DLP TV. I connected the DVD-HD960 today using the included HDMI cable and was thrilled to see a picture and audio that truely rivals HD TV broadcasts! I was using an older high-end standard DVD player and the improvements especially in the video image, are truely amazing. I am happier than a kid in the candy/toy store with an unlimited budget and can't wait to showcase my wedding video DVDs with this awesome DVD player. Thank you Samsung for producing superior audio/video products.

Sleek DVD Player with loads of features.

Strengths: HDMI output, 1080p upconversion

Weakness: None so far

The HD960 is a breeze to setup. Automatic setup with a Samsung HDTV. The 1080p picture is incredible. Use the free HDMI cable and you are on your way. I'd recommend the model to anyone. (Even if the model is slow to eject, It is still great.)

Samsung rocks

Strengths: good looks, Price, anticipated Samsung reliability

Weakness: Maybe have the unit available in silver

One of the reasons I purchased this DVD player was because it has HDMI to use with my Samsung DLP television, which has an HDMI input. HDMI makes it extra simple to set up. Run the HDMI cable(which is included with the 960)to the TV, and an optical cable to the stereo reciever. I like to have a minimal amount of cables, and HDMI is great for this. I haven't had a lot of time yet to test all the features, but the couple DVD's that I watched, the picture was excellent, with no artifacts from what I could see.

SAMSUNG UPCONVERSION DVD-HD960 DVD Player

Strengths: Makes every movie more sharper with the upconversion technology.

Weakness: The dvd player seems kind of flimsy for a $160 player, but still a great dvd quality.

I bought this item from B&H Photo and was very satisfied the quality image this dvd player produces. It also comes with a HDMI cable which saved me about $80 dollars from purchasing this cable alone. Overall I would recommend this dvd player to anyone who wants to watch video in 1080p.

Sleek looking DVD player

Strengths: good looks, menu control is easy, outstanding picture output

Weakness: subtitles turned on default setting, It can't do 1080P output to my TV (not sure if this is my TV's problem either even though both say they support

Beautiful picture. I used this with my TV at 720P with Starwars II and I could almost see a blue screen halo around the actors against the blue screen (this is a positive). It brings out every detail that the director wanted you to see and even ones they didn't.

Is there truly a difference?

Strengths: Slim and sleek design. Easy hookup with supplied HDMI.

Weakness: "Busy" remote with buttons hard to find in low light (IE during movie viewing)

I hooked my HD 960 up to a LG 32LC2DU (32" LCD with 720P). Using the supplied HDMI for connection was very easy. Setup was very easy.

The picture quality seemed very good so I decided to "run some comparison tests".

While viewing a DVD movie (The Illusionist)I wanted to see the difference between 480, 720, and 1080. I alternated the available settings on the remote (HDMI select). There is a slight pause between each selection while the picture changes format. To me, the picture quality did not change. If it did, it was too slight for my subjective eyes.

I then watched the same DVD on my other DVD player (though on a 3 yr old Sony LCD projection). Doing this I could see a difference in video clarity, sharpness, and overall quality. The question is whether this is the result of the upconverting DVD player or the difference in TV picture quality.

Overall, I am happy with this purchase. I still need to view some other DVD movies to make a better comparison. But rather than trying to justify a $160 DVD purchase, I shall just enjoy the quality picture. Still a better option than buying Blue Ray for $900.

The difference is not the same as going from analog broadcasting to HD broadcasting. There may be a difference but it's more subtle.

DVDHD960

Strengths: Nice body

Weakness: Only work at 480P with DHMI connect. Would like work at convert 1080I or 1080P, require to connect component

This model works only at 480P when hook up to HDMI of LCD television. Want to see at 1080I, this DVD requires to add one more connecting component cable to LCD televison. The qualify is not like me expect. not good more than Sony or Toshiba that I bought 2 years ago. With me this model is only normal qualify picture but I never try at 1080P.

The DVD-HD960 does 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p over HDMI. The whole point of this player is that you get an upconverted signal over a digital output. It does 480i and 480p over component. I have no idea what you mean by getting only 480p over HDMI.

I have mine displaying 1080p to my LCD TV over HDMI with no problems.
