5 Star Review Sony DVP-NS90V DVD Player with HDMI

Strengths:

Excellent picture quality with HDMI and excellent sound with optical out.

Weaknesses:

None so far..

Posted Nov 7, 2005 - Nice picture quality with HDMI out that I have connected with DVI input projector..Also with price around $160. It has decoder built in. Also go SACD support for muti-channel audio support for future.

5 Star Review Sony delivers for me again

Strengths:

Sony name, HDMI, component, optical audio out, this unit hasn't had the 'firmware' issues as other Sonys.

Weaknesses:

Silver color only.

Posted Dec 24, 2005 - I looked for awhile to find an HDMI 1080i capable DVD player. I have a Sony KDFE60A20 LCD HDTV (wish my tv had 2 HDMI inputs...) and wanted a DVD player that could use it to the hilt. I check MANY places online for reviews not just here, other brands or even models of Sony had a random scary review. This one had few to none so I took the leap. I like the design and silver color though others would prefer black. Unit operates quietly, plays my DVDs without problem (even those with scratches that my PS2 wouldn't play). The optical audio link makes a very nice sound. Picture with component video is very clear. To compare though and before I wrote this review I waited to get a gold plated HDMI cable. The difference is not gigantic but definitely better, a little brighter & clearer. Maybe I expected more of a difference for an 80 dollar cable. :( I'm glad I made the buy, what a great price for a Sony upconvert HDMI DVD player. Good luck!

5 Star Review What a buy

Strengths:

Sharp looking, upconvert, speed variable rewind and fast forward, and great price.

Weaknesses:

Could have come in black

Posted Dec 2, 2005 - I have a standard 32" RCA TV, but am planning on getting a 42" Panasonic Plasma so I can use the upconvert. Love the variable speed rewind and fast forward and it plays all burned CD's so far as well as back ups of DVD's. I will modify when I get to test the upconvert. Also, the last DVD Player was a Phillips and it sucked. Was Picky with which media it would play, and it always had to be cleaned or DVD's skipped like crazy.

5 Star Review DVP-NS90V DVD Player (Progressive Scan).

Strengths:

Terrific picture quality. Ease of use.

Weaknesses:

None so far

Posted Dec 23, 2005 - Purchased the Sony NS90V along with a Sony 30HS420 Wide Screen HD Ready TV. My goal was to purchase a DVD player from a manufacturer with a good tract record, provided high quality video and audio and was easy to use. Within five minutes had both units in place, HDMI cable hooked up and power on. The audio does not quite measure up to my NAD DVD player but to video is superior. Since my main usage of this player will be to watch movies I couldn't be more pleased with performance of this DVD player.

5 Star Review Best value!

Strengths:

720p/1080i Upscaling, SA-CD

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Dec 14, 2005 - I have done extensive research on DVD players with HDMI connection. This SONY is by far the best value out there. It delivers fantastic picture quality to any HDTV. It is packed with features and delivers SONY quality, at less than $170. The SA-CD playback is a huge bonus. Not too long ago, you had to pay four times this price just to get such CD player. Even normal CDs sound better on this machine than my Nakamichi. I recommend it to everyone...you can't go wrong.

4 Star Review HDMI player

Strengths:

The price is reasonable, the quality is above average

Weaknesses:

none so far.

Posted Apr 26, 2006 - I tried both samsung hdmi dvd player and sony 70h dvd player. Somehow samsung is not compatible with my Sony 55 rear projection TV. The picture is so poor that I had to send it back to the manufacture 2 times for repair. Many people said both sony 70h & 90v are the same. But I tested both and I noticed that 90v shown better picture than 70h. I figure that it is only $30 more and why not buying a newer model.

1 Star Review I liked the unit till....

Strengths:

HDMI,component,5.1 channel hookups, upcovergence etc.

Weaknesses:

The length of time before it failed.

Posted Dec 27, 2006 - I liked my Sony DVD player for watching movies. I purchased it in November 2005 and it lasted till December 2006. Now it will not longer play and it's out of warranty. Sony wants as much to fix it or buy a refurbished model as I can purchase another new one. If you buy this unit get an extended warranty.

2 Star Review So Far So Good

Strengths:

Compact, capable, lightweight chassis

Weaknesses:

Sound?!

Posted Jul 21, 2006 - My unit's on the system (Carver gear, DQ-10s)less than a day. Wanted it more for the SACD/CD single play capability (don't watch things at home much). Will check cable connections carefully. Find the sound definitely not warm and rich in the midrange and bottom which surprises me given the modern DAC. May have misconnected things but doubt it. This device replaces a down-level single CD player who's motor has finally just about given out. I'm an orchestral musician and know sound inside/out. Wary at this point of what I'm not hearing.

5 Star Review Sony DVP-NS90V DVD Player w/ HDMI +component

Strengths:

Setup, Use, HDMI, optical sound for receiver, upscale

Weaknesses:

another remote that is unique, silver vs black, no HDMI cable

Posted Mar 30, 2006 - Lightweight, good price from Electronic Expo, PriceGrabber vendor. Setup quickly, produces a nice picture on my LG 32" HD TV. can't wait to hook to my 50" Sony HDTV. wish the Sony TV had HDMI. Great deal for the price, does what I want plus can upscale. this will hook into my Pioneer Elite 74 receiver very nicely. will add to comments after I have had this longer.

4 Star Review Very nice player

Strengths:

Good picture/sound quality.

Weaknesses:

Very slow start-up and loading.

Posted Jan 4, 2006 - This is a nice machine. Easy to use with quick set-up. You can also make a lot of adjustments according to your own viewing habit and environment, such as the sharpness and picture mode. DVD disc reading is smooth, even for those with minor scratches. The sound is juicy and warm. The remote control is also easy to use. The thing I don't like about it is the start-up and loading time are too long, which looks a little bit stupid.

4 Star Review Typical Sony DVD player

Strengths:

Progressive scan

Weaknesses:

none noted

Posted Aug 19, 2006 - I say typical as I have many generations of Sony DVD players and they perform pretty much the same. AT least I could get this one in black unlike some of their other pieces. I also use this one as a local room CD player. I do like the quality of the sound, I think it sounds better than the Adcom CD player I have on my main system. In general you can't go wrong on a Sony video product purchase

5 Star Review Awesome & Incredible SONY DVD Player

Strengths:

HDMI, No Skipping feature, Super Audio/Video, Exceptional quality sound and picture, progressive scan, etc.

Weaknesses:

Remote doesn't have glow-in-the-dark feature or doesn't light up.

Posted Jun 18, 2007 - I have done extensive research on DVD players with the HDMI feature. This SONY DVD player is by far the best value out there. It delivers awesome picture quality for an HDTV player. It is packed with unbelievable awesome features and delivers exceptional SONY quality, for less than $120. The Super Audio/Video playback (SACD/SAVD) is a huge bonus. Years ago, you had to pay at least 4x the price just to get a decent player. I love the no skipping feature the best, because my husband & I bought "Alien Quadrilogy", to find out that one of the dvd's is a double-density disc. We had to purchase this DVD player due to the non-skipping feature. Not many DVD players will even play double-density discs. That was one of the main features that we were looking for, since our older SONY player won't even play double-density discs, it treats it like a dirty disc... ** You can purchase it in either BJ's or Costco for half the price they sell it in stores. But always make sure you purchase the extended warranty! I also recommend it to everyone...you can't go wrong!!
