4 Star Review SLV-D360P DVD/VCR COMBO PLAYER

Strengths:

Nice design, Easy to use, Clear picture

Weaknesses:

Menu's are slow to respond, no dvd recorder

Posted Jul 28, 2006 - I was looking for a DVD VCR combo player and decided to go with the Sony slv-d360p. The price is great for the features and Sony is a reliable company. Overall, the player is easy to use but responds slow to the remote control. The remote control works as a universal control for almost any TV. The wega design is also nice. Having a DVD recorder on the unit would make it perfect but for the price its still a great buy.

5 Star Review Good DVD/VCR Combo

Strengths:

Clean video picture for both formats, progressive output

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Jun 3, 2006 - This is a good combo DVD/VCR player that produces nice images especially via the progressive output option. Most of the controls are easy to use. I haven't had any troubles with the VCR yet, compared to the ones(non-Sony brands) I had in the past. I think Sony did a great job in putting this together, so I expect to use this extensively in the near future.

5 Star Review Does It All

Strengths:

I was originally attracted to this product because I trust the brand, Sony, and it has held up to its image. It is a dependable product which I anticipate will provide me with many years service.

Weaknesses:

As this product is exactly what I was shopping for, to me this player has no weaknesses.

Posted Nov 3, 2005 - This product has answered my need for a DVD and VCR player in one machine. It is easy to use, even for non-technical type person like myself. I was able to install it myself, which was also important to me. DVD and VCR movies run flawlessly; it does exactly what it says it will do. The remote control also offered ease of use. I also found that compared with other DVD/VCR Players and the brand name Sony, which I believe has an excellent reputation, this product is a tremendous value for the money.

5 Star Review SLV-D360P DVD/VCR Player a Star Performer

Strengths:

Easy to Set-Up and Use; 4-Head VCR Has Great Features; DVD Player Has Everything You Would Expect - Makes For a Nice Combo Unit.

Weaknesses:

None Really - It will not play DVD-RAM Discs, but this is a minor complaint.

Posted Mar 30, 2006 - I bought this unit on sale from Amazon.com for only $88.34 plus $19.99 shipping. I am amazed at how much the prices have gone down on this kind of technology over the years. I remember spending several hundred dollars on a 4-head Sony VCR in the mid-90's, and a similar amount on a DVD players when they first came out. I primarily wanted a new VCR, and this DVD/VCR combo unit was priced so low, it was the same price (or less) than a standalone VCR (and a Sony to boot!). This unit has some great features. The VCR has a skip feature that will advance the tape in 30 second increments (you can hit it up to 4 times). It also has a Replay button, to replay the previous scene (15 seconds in EP, 10 seconds in SP or LP mode). The DVD player accepts the folowing formats: DVD-V, DVD-RW, VCD, CD, DATA-CD, DATA-DVD, and plays MP3 audio tracks. It has progressive scan, parental controls, zoom and angle capabilities, Dolby Digital and virtual surround sound capabilities, and the ability to play JPEG image files. I have a 6 month old Sony Trinitron WEGA TV that I hooked this unit up to, so I must admit that it made the set-up particularly easy. The remotes are compatible, and everthing was "plug and play." I have a Panasonic DVD Recorder in my Family Room, and tried an old DVD-RAM disc in the unit and saw that it was not compatible (and the product manual confirmed this), but I can record DVD-R in the Panasonic (for later playback in the SLV-D360P) to solve this problem in the future. Amazon offers a one-year extended warranty for $9.99, which I purchased. This completely reimburses the purchase price if the unit goes belly-up. I think this is a good use of $10.00. I did quite a bit of reseach on this unit (checking reviews on other sites like Amazon, Circuit City, etc.), and saw that some people had problems with the DVD player becoming tempermental after only a few months (but after the 90 day warranty period). I would have bought a longer warranty had it been available. But I must say, I am very impressed with the unit, and would have easily paid $20-40 more without blinking. Ask me in 2 or 3 months if I still like it, hopefully, I will!

5 Star Review SLV-D360P DVD/VCR Player

Strengths:

DVD Player and DVD Player in one piece.

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Aug 7, 2006 - I bought this product because it plays DVD and VHS cassette in one piece. I have dvd player and vhs player separately for my other TV and it is mess with all cables plugged in the back. With this SONY DVD/VHS player I plugged in only one cable and it works great. Easy to install and easy to use. "SONY" brand name says it all.

4 Star Review Nice basic combo, Brand Assurance, Appearance

Strengths:

Progressive scan capability is utilized with HDTV. Ability to keep my VHS tapes from becoming fossils. Good aesthetic appearance. Sony brand implies quality. Has stereo sound capability.

Weaknesses:

Pretty basic, but that's what you are paying for. VHS player has some flutter action, particularly when white is displayed on whatever you are viewing, most notably titles/credits, etc.

Posted Jan 1, 2006 - Overall, a good choice for a basic DVD player. Doesn't look as cheap as the $79 and $99 combo players flooding the market, so if appearances count and you want the quality name brand behind it, this is a good pick up for your needs. Being a Sony, I am a little more assured it will last longer than the special-of-the-week Cheapie McCheapster in the ad you see in the Sunday papers.

2 Star Review Not reliable

Strengths:

setup, features

Weaknesses:

reliability

Posted Mar 21, 2007 - Product less than a year old and the color function is messed up. All the colors display as yellow. Sony wants money to exchange product; the money can be used to buy a new item.

3 Star Review No surprises

Strengths:

Progressive scan for DVD, multiple outputs

Weaknesses:

none noted

Posted Aug 19, 2006 - This player is typical of a Sony transport, like I am used to. I do wish Sony would 'turn back the clock' on their (video product) remotes as they were far more intuitive. Pictures were decent and setup was simple. I used both the composite and component outputs to enjoy all that this machine is capable of. Please, someone make silver electronics out of style! Mine has worked flawlessly for months now.

4 Star Review Great product for the price SLV-D360P

Strengths:

Progressive Digital Output, Frontal input, multiple formats and Component output

Weaknesses:

Only S-Video output other than Component Video and not the Video output. This makes it not compatible with older TVs without S-Video input

Posted Jul 31, 2006 - Quality, function shows Sony trademark where as I would have preferred black color. Sony needs to improve on the weight and make the product little more sleek. The cover for the frontal input is nice. I would recommend this product.

4 Star Review Value product for the money

Strengths:

Like the silver body with the black stripe. Always preferred the green LCD display compared to the red ones. Front A/V inputs are nicely hidden in the front. Setup in minutes. Good Picture quality.

Weaknesses:

No easy dubbing feature from DVD to VCR. No optical outputs. S-video out is only for the DVD. No VCR+ on this model.

Posted Jul 25, 2006 - Overall I like the pictuere quality of both the VHS and DVD. It doesn't have all the fancy features that you find these days but whatever it has, it works well and does a good job of it.

4 Star Review very nice unit

Strengths:

easy setup, nice looks and performance

Weaknesses:

wasn't recognized by my cable box, so I need to use 2 remotes.

Posted May 7, 2006 - This Sony DVD/VCR is a very nice and convenient package unit. It was pretty easy to set up. The only problem was that my cable box which is supposed to detect the DVD/VCR didn't recognize it. Otherwise its nice.
