pjmacl - (October 10, 2004) This compact DVD player is an excellent package at the price. In addition to all the usual features of a high end player, and so far flawless operation, it provides an interpolated DVI output providing 1080i to compatible HDTVs. The resulting excellent video quality is a pleasure watch. If you are looking for this capability the Denon DVD-1910 is the way to go. Before buying this unit I had a disastrous experience with the Samsung DVD-HD841 (which I returned) which claims the same capabilities. However as noted in my review of that product the Samsung is not fully compliant with HDCP making the use of DVI problematic, and amazingly the DVI output setting is not retained after power down

gogola26 - (August 26, 2004) I think this is good product for $70. You got to remember that for 70$ you are not going to get mercedes. There are better products on the market but much more expensive and not so flexible. For all that I think this is great value. Design is ok but the main reason I bought this one is that I can play anything I want to. Till today it has played every disk I put in. Philips is saying they do not support DVD-R and DVD-RW but I think they do something they do not know about. Yes, it plays DVD-R and DVD-RW. You do not have to think about what kind of media you go to buy. It plays Divx and Xvid movies too. For me a nice feature of this player is that it converts PAL to NTSC and back and you can wa

hey_moe - (July 18, 2004) This is the third one I have had to return. I have read on line that others have had the same problem. What has been happening is when you load a dvd disk it locks up and you are stuck from that point on. If you return it make sure you let them know the name of the dvd disk that is in there. This must be a ongoing problem with this player. I have owned many DVD players but this one has got to be the worst I have ever seen in production.
jensen18 - (09/16/2009) I bought this unit without doing much reseach due to a deal when buying a Samsung TV. The TV is outstanding the DVD player not so much. The unit stopped reading disks and would just boot to the splash screen after 3 weeks. This was after the date I could get my money back from the store so was only able to swap out for a new one. We proceeded to swap the next three units. The 5th one is now intermittently reading disks. Samsung wants me to pay for shipping to have them take a look which ends up being greater than 10% of the original cost of the unit. After doing the proper research on this unit it appears that it should be called the F1080 paper weight. When it actually works the picture is good but the touch sensitive buttons are really annoying. Try reaching behind the unit to adjust other AV cables and suddenly the DVD tray is popping open. I would much prefer to have to press a button for it to respond. Due to my experience with this unit I doubt I will even consider a Samsung branded DVD player in the future.

zoocar - (07/20/2009) I have hundreds of movies and TV shows I have downloaded from the internet mostly in Divx or Xvid format. This playes them all. I use a $20 8gig USB stick and load up 8-10 movies at a time to watch without having to burn any disks! Also in the process of loading a whole catalogue of hundreds of movies and shows on a 1 terrabyte external drive to plug in the USB slot. Imagine having instant access to everything you own, for exampele, all seasons and episodes of The Simpsons, Monk, The Office, Twilight Zone, Columbo, I love Lucy, Kung Fu, Samantha Who...etc,etc. without having to load a single disk! I am tempted to buy a back-up in case they become unavailable. Lots of other features, good remote and the HD upscaling works nice too.

Tulay85 - (06/11/2009) I already have the same product. I bought it from best buy 3 years ago and I never had problem with it..!! I need it another one for one of my friend. But it was hard to find it. When I found your web side I was so happy about it but that didn't last long because USB part is not working..! And that was the only reason my friend wanted it.. I had to call the Philips company and try to get help but they said they will call me back after I email them the receipt. So right now I'm just hoping that they will do something about it.
