Incredibly versatile and format friendly, this DVD recorder can record to and play back just about any DVD you can throw at it. Specifically, it can record to and play back DVD-R/-RW/-RAM/+R/+RW discs. It can also play back many more disc formats, including: DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R(dual layer), DVD+R(dual layer), CD, CD-DA, and CD-R/RW(including MP3, JPEG, and DivX files). With a Panasonic DVD recorder, never think twice about what disc you need. This DVD recorder can record an amazing 500 lines of horizontal resolution in LP Mode, which is twice the 250 lines of resolution offered by conventional LP Mode recording. What does this mean? It means that you can now record longer (4 hours on a single-sided DVD-R or -RAM disc as opposed to 2 hours) and still enjoy the crisp, vibrant images with exceptional detail that 500 lines of horizontal resolution deliver. minimize

5 Star Review Best Unit for the Money

Strengths:

Accepts multi-format discs, Can be used like DVR, Slim Profile, Multiple inputs

Weaknesses:

Remote control layout, No skip back button, No open/close button (on remote), Lag time when searching forward and back, Awkward features.

Posted Jan 22, 2007 - Even though I list several weaknesses, I am very pleased with this unit. The ability to use most any type of DVD media is great. Picture quality is much better than from my DVR. I can also record from my DVR (ReplayTV) unit to this unit with no problems. The discs play well in my Samsung DVD player. The only anoyances for me is the less than clever remote control layout with lack of some useful buttons, and the lack of an extra input on the back. Also, the on-screen menu text/background could use a little more contrast especially when using during the day. I chose this unit as an upgrade from VCR. I am happy I did.

4 Star Review Good Recorder

Strengths:

Multi format, inexpensive, good remote

Weaknesses:

None so far

Posted Nov 12, 2006 - This is my first DVD recorder which I got primarily to copy my VCR tapes. I've been using Memorex DVD-R disks without problem. They play on both an HP and Toshiba laptop as well as another Panasonic DVD player. The picture and sound quality are very good. There is definitely a learning curve to using this unit to its full capability. I was up and copying in 30 minutes. The instruction manual is complete but I find it hard to read (layout). The remote is clearly marked and works well. I haven't experienced the compatibility and reliability issues some other people have experienced. The instruction manual emphasizes that you must finalize a disk before it will be readable on other players. For what I'm using the unit for it works well. I bought the unit on sale and feel it's fairly inexpensive for what you get.
