Time Slip features simultaneous record and play. Select an episode in the program guide, start recording, and as it records you can watch your recording of another episode. What if you set up your DVD recorder to record a movie from 8:00 to 10:00 while you're out, but dinner was faster than you expected and you get home early? With Chasing Playback feature, you don't have to wait for the program to finish recording in order to watch it. You can begin watching the portion of the program that has already been saved while the DVD recorder continues recording the remainder of the program.One-Touch Record will save your favorite programs by automatically scanning the disc for blank space before starting the recording process. Direct Navigator displays thumbnails of every program on the disc as you browse, making it easy to identify the contents of each recording. Preserve your precious VHS tapes by transferring them to DVD, which will provide durability and many years of enjoyment. With One-Touch 2-Way Transfer, you can dub a VHS tape to DVD by pushing a single button. minimize

Pansonic DVD/VCR Recorder Combo

Started Oct 16, 2006

Strengths: Picture quality is great, it upconverts dvd's to Hi-def.

Weaknesses: Not so easy to use recording functions.

I have had this since august, and still have not successfully recorded a TV show with the RAM disc that is included. It does not seem very user friendly for recording. Too many options for an average person, such as having to format a disc, and then closing it out before it is playable on another device. Why cant you just record, and play? Frustrating...This is the first Panasonic product I have ever had, that I feel this way about.

Sorry you are feeling so frustrated, but the fault does not lie with Panasonic but rather with the technology of DVD recording. Formatting, finalizing and such are the nature of the beast. All DVD recorders require these same procedures. For those who are in the market, it would be wise to note that recording to DVD is more difficult than recording to videotape. However, the payoff is that if you choose the right recorder and the right recording speed you can have a better quality recording that will last longer than VHS videotapes. Plus you will enjoy the luxury of being able to "rewind" and "fast forward" much more quickly then with a VCR. Personally, I have found DVD recording to be worth the extra effort involved.
