Panasonic DMR-EZ47VK DVD Recorder

Started Jun 22, 2007

Strengths: Supports all DVD formats except for HD and Blu-ray. Also, supports upconversion to full HD (1080P) of DVD and VHS. Lots of options for connecting unit to TV and Receivers (HDMI, S-Video, etc.)

Weaknesses: Manual is a little confusing and could be organized better. Some little things are missing that are standard on many VHS/DVD players (i.e., tape counter, VCR Plus).

I purchased this unit to convert my VHS and Hi-8mm tapes to DVD. I won't use it as my primary DVD Player; will wait to buy a HD-DVD player for that. This unit was fairly easy to copy from VHS to DVD and to copy from the Aux inputs. The instruction manual is a little confusing to understand. You have to flip through several pages to get the entire process of how to copy or program.

This is my first Panasonic unit and not sure how about the reliability or support.

If you are using an analog TV with the usual 4:3 aspect ratio (not wide screen), the pictre is unsatisfactory in playing a dvd because there is no zoom capability

I have a 5-year old analog tv, and i have a question about using this panasonic unit....because it has a digital tuner , will i be able to watch a program on my old tv hooked up to this unit (through rabbit ear antenna) , in a couple years , once all stations broadcast only a digital signal ?

THANKS, jeff

Yes, but not through a rabbit-ear antenna -- you'll need to buy an ATSC (digital TV) antenna, like these: http://electronics.pricegrabber.com/antennas/p/1453/form_keyword=hdtv/topcat_id=
