Extremely slow writes and loss of data

Posted 1 year ago - First off, this is my 3rd and last SanDisk USB drive I will ever buy. They're pretty cheap and that's probably why they suck so much. Let me explain... FYI, I never use their U3 software. I just use the drive as a backup drive. I started off with the 1GB, moved on to 2GB, and now have the 4GB model. All 3 were very slow at writing. Imagine sitting in your office backing up your data and waiting for hours at the end of the day. Extremely irritating. The first 2 I had both crashed and lost data, never to be recovered again. Imagine losing your photos and work documents. Good thing I made backups to CDs. And yes, I made sure that the USB drive was optimized for performance (in Windows hardware properties). Made very little difference in writing. I would recommend Verbatim USB drives. They've never failed me yet, and they're fast.

What a Piece of Crap

Posted 1 year ago - I've had this for a few months now. I rarely use it as it's too much of a hassle. The connector doesn't fit perfectly into 2 of my USB ports on my desktop, and 1 on my laptop, it goes in at an angle. Everytime I try to copy files to it, I get errors. The software that it comes with sucks too! Don't waste your $$$ with this POS, buy something else.

A Snail

Posted 1 year ago - I can't believe how slow mine is. It has taken over 45 minutes to write a 1 gig file. I had hopes that I would be able to transport image files from work to home on this flash drive and not have to write discs all of the time, but I find I am waiting constantly for the Cruzer 8 GB to write. I will have to chalk this one up to experience and NEVER buy one again.

Posted 1 year ago - As I mentioned above, strengths and weaknesses, this product is quite fast in I/O operations but the manufacturing of a product lacks quality. Plastic is shaky and it gives a user a feeling it is going to break pretty soon. Other than that, I would definitely recommend that flash drive to anyone.

Posted 1 year ago - The product worked great (as advertised) Excellent value for money. I have been Using 1Gb and 2gb ones. Now I got rid of those with an 8GB one. I wish it could be 16GB, but well worth the price

Very Convenient

Posted Mar 24, 2008 - This drive works in all my PCs under Windows XP and Linux environments. Read and write speed is about average. Its USB connector is retractable so that one does not have to look for missing cap any more. However, the case of the drive is made of cheap plastic. It may not survive with certain impacts.

I hate it

Posted Mar 5, 2008 - The U3 software cost me at least $100 worth of time to understand and remove and crashed one of my computers. Another computer still has traces of that nightmare on it. I would not buy another device with U3 on it even though I now know how to deal with it. It just isn't worth the trouble. I would rather pay $20 bucks more for a device without it.

Great for what it is

Posted Feb 16, 2008 - This is a great flash drive for what it is. It isn't indestructible, it's not designed for that. With the USB plug sliding inside however, it is plenty sturdy for average used. The read and write speeds of the drive are quite decent, not the fastest, but quite good for the price range. SanDisk, in its wisdom, chooses to preload all the U3 software goodness on the drive. I recommend the first thing to do is to fully remove the U3 from the drive - it will add about 200MB to the drive capacity. If you need the apps, look at portableapps.com

8GB Sandisk Cruzer

Posted Jan 27, 2008 - It is very good USB flash drive. 8 MB is large enough to store even a DVD format movie (rip). It is very fast to transfer files. Sliding USB makes it very convenient to carry. On the downside, the U3 software that it comes with is unnecessary and wast of memory. I had to format the drive to getride of that software!

Handy!!!

Posted Jan 22, 2008 - Basically, I use this device for microsoft windows vista ready boost feature. Start up time are faster. However, When I goto the public library or borrow a friends computer, the U3 feature help me to use all my bookmarks, mp3, documents, and also video clips. It turns any computer into my very on personal computer-neat. I do not have to install anything-just plug into any available usb port and your favorite programs and files are ready to go (some prior preparation required-its not hard). Although I have not tried it, there are ways of installing and running windows xp or linux from them also.

8GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro U3 Flash Drive

Posted Jan 14, 2008 - Like other Sandisk flash drives (I own several), this product is well designed and functions without trouble. The retractable input eliminates worries about losing the cap and distress if you do lose it. Like all drives, its actual capacity is less than advertised, and there's extra software installed on it designed for PCs, which is useless is you're a Mac user (like me). I buy these drives strictly for storage space, so that stuff is just dross anyway. Also, the "U3 Drive" which appears on your desktop in mounting is a nuisance because you have to remember to trash BOTH the drive icon and the U3 icon to properly disconnect it. Nevertheless-if you need lots of room on a flash drive, consider this one -- decent value for the price.

Outstanding USB Jump Drive...

Posted Jan 9, 2008 - I bought this on Black Friday because it was such a good deal and I'm very pleased. I previously had an 8gb Transcend USB flash drive that had extremely slow read/write speeds. This drive is fast and has not let me down. My only complaint is the U3 software--it's sooo bad that Sandisk actually had to post an uninstall utility on their website after a firestorm of complaints. For the price, you can't go wrong. If I had the extra money, I would go for the titanium version for better longevity.

Posted Dec 30, 2007 - I consider the Micro Drive to be a well designed, portable memory device and I wouldn't hesitate to buy similar Sandisk products again. The software included with the drive was an unexpected "bonus", but remains slow in execution and didn't function well on my computer.
