4 Star Review Great monitor for the price!

Strengths:

great brightness and picture quality, excellent contrast and refresh rate, handy auto adjustment feature, no dead pixels

Weaknesses:

built-in speakers are crummy, no DVI (if I choose to upgrade later)

Posted Jul 16, 2006 - This is a terrific flat-panel LCD monitor for the price. I wanted to upgrade from an old 17" CRT, and the Q9B-2 really did the job for me. The picture is bright and clear, does well with videos and movies; the auto adjustment feature makes initial setup a snap. I hooked up the speakers just to see how they sounded--and they were pretty bad. But I didnt buy a monitor for its speakers, so now theyre disconnected and the monitor itself is just awesome. I highly recommend picking one of these up...

4 Star Review Great LCD monitor with reasonable price

Strengths:

No dead pixel, convenient speakers, easy installation, bright and sharp display, powerful auto adjustment, good price

Weaknesses:

No audio-out jack from LCD. No DVI. Bad control button design

Posted Aug 14, 2006 - I bought it for business use and it is the best one I could find with the lowest price. The installation is very easy, and I do like the convenient speakers. The most impressive thing is it has no dead pixel for such a big screen. I am setting it at 1280X1024, and the texts are very clear and sharp. Screen is also very bright, so I have to adjust it darker. I do not like its control buttons. They are very small and black color. The symbols above them are also black. So they are totally melted in the back frame. It is very diffcult to identify the buttons when I try to adjust anything. Anyway, the auto adjustment is powerful and so useful in this case. By the way, the manual adjustment design is not traditional, so I took time to learn how to set.

4 Star Review Value for the non-Gamer/Media Enthusiast

Strengths:

very nice picture, takes up little space, easy to setup and use, built-in speakers (convenient)

Weaknesses:

native resolution not great for such a large screen, lacks DVI port, speakers good for only sounds or background music.

Posted Sep 17, 2006 - I got a really great deal on this 19" monitor, so it makes for a great value when compared to many other 17" displays. You are sacrificing some performance to get the larger screen at this price, although if you are not playing games or watching videos, you may not even notice. The 1280 x 1024 resolution is only OK (better would be 1600 x 1200), but the picture is bright, and this could even be a plus for some (if you don't alreadyknow this): larger resolutions make everything appear smaller on the screen. When you decrease the resolution to make everything appear larger, the picture typically looks worse. I always tell my friends to buy the LCD display that looks good to them in the NATIVE resolution.

5 Star Review Optiquest Q9b-2 Black 19

Strengths:

Good pictures, with speakers

Weaknesses:

No

Posted Aug 8, 2006 - The viewsonic optiquest Q9b-2 is a very cost effective solution for both home and business. It features a 8 ms response time, 19" viewable area and 1280x1024 resolution. The integrated speakers on the bottom is good for compact space. The picture is sharp and bright. View angle is also excellent.

5 Star Review Very Impressive LCD Monitor and No Dead Pixels

Strengths:

No Dead Pixels, Very good image. Speaker is not so bad.

Weaknesses:

N/A

Posted Jul 22, 2006 - I bought this monitor for my girlfriend's 12.1" laptop. Compare to my Samsung 915N LCD that I bought last year, this monitor is better. (My Samsung monitor has dead pixels and its image is not as good as ViewSonic.) I was struggling to buy Samsung "913N" "920N" and Acer "AL1916W" "AL1917bm" because all of them have three years warranty.(ViewSonic only has a year.) The speaker is not bad. I am satisfied with the speaker performance when I listen to some popular music and classical music. This product is highly recommended to buy.

4 Star Review Good Monitor for the Price

Strengths:

Bright, sharp, clear picture quality, overall nice design, low power consumption

Weaknesses:

very poor sound quality, control buttons hard to see and operate

Posted Nov 5, 2006 - I purchased the Optiquest 19 inch monitor through Staples.com for under $150 including rebate. It arrived in its protective carton in perfect condition. It took less than 10 minutes to set up. I am impressed by the improved picture quality and size compared to my old 17 inch CRT monitor, and unlike my old monitor, there is no distortion or glare with this unit. It freed up a lot of desk space, being flat panel and elliminating my old speakers. Beware that the sound quality is very tinny and volume is limited through the Optiquest's tiny speakers. For me, this is not a major issue. The control buttons on the front of the unit are black, the same color as the rest of the front of the monitor. It is difficult distinguishing between the off/on button and mute and volume buttons. It is just a matter of getting used to it being designed that way. Again, not a big deal for me. Overall, I am happy with my new monitor and would recommend it to others.

1 Star Review Buyer Beware

Strengths:

cost, doesn't smell like cheese

Weaknesses:

poor value, short lifespan, lousy customer service

Posted Feb 12, 2008 - I was among the chorus singing the praises of this monitor until the weekend before Christmas when the monitor died. It started making a weird, warbling electronic hum as the computer started. The image would flicker and dim and finally just went black. I plugged it into another computer to make sure that it was truly the monitor and it was. I had owned the monitor for sixteen months. Nice monitor while it lasted, but when measuring cost versus useful lifetime - this monitor is a very poor value. By the way, written inquiries to ViewSonic have gone ignored. Very dissatisfying experience, both in terms of product quality and customer service.

Good price, Great picture quality, with built-in speakers

4 Star Review Solid performer

Strengths:

Price, decent picture.

Weaknesses:

Nothing special as monitors go.

Posted Oct 14, 2007 - This monitor does what it advertises at a good price. It's not the fastest refresh or highest resolution, but provides a decent, clear, crisp picture day after day. I wouldn't recommend heavy gaming on this monitor, but it doesn't boast that it can. ViewSonic has made a value monitor that delivers without issue.

4 Star Review Splendid LCD Monitor

Strengths:

Bright, nice clarity, good value.

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Sep 18, 2007 - My CRT has been giving me trouble recently, so I grabbed this LCD because the price was right. I don't know why I waited so long but I will never go back to CRT. This monitor was easy to set up and the clarity is wonderful. Nice and bright, whereas my CRT made everything too dark. The 19" size is a definite improvement over the 15" CRT. Great resolution as well. I can see much more on screen and smaller fonts show up much more clearly defined.

4 Star Review Nice Monitor For The Value Conscious

Strengths:

Superb brightness and colors, light weight, easy setup, great price for what you get. No dead pixels on my unit.

Weaknesses:

Speaker quality, display set up buttons.

Posted Nov 25, 2006 - Having owned two trouble free Viewsonic CRT's previously I thought I'd stick with a brand that's reliable. From what I've read, the Optiquest models are the value line of Viewsonic, that being said this model does offer great value. I was able to pick mine up at Staples on Black Friday for 130.00 with a Staples Easy rebate, plus an additional $3.00 off for an empty ink cartridge. There is no CD with drivers provided, it's plug and play for Win 2K and XP and uses Microsofts drivers. For those still using ME or 98, drivers are available at the Viewsonic site for download. Setup was quick and easy, the monitor adjusts itself, and does a good job I may add. The setup buttons are almost impossible to see since they blend in with the black frame. For me that's not a problem since I have no intentions of changing anything. I did enter the menu once only to lower the brightness to 75%, default is 100. Some may want to go lower as a personal preference. I've tried several different resolutions and they all look good to me, the manual does suggest you keep it at 1080 x 1024. I'm not a gamer so I can't comment on it's gaming abilities, but from what I've read on other threads the Q95 holds it's own. In closing don't buy this monitor if you need to rely on the speakers to free up desk top space. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and do recommend it to others seeking a 19" monitor.

5 Star Review Excellent LCD for the money

Strengths:

Inexpensive, excellent picture quality, no dead pixels, looks good too

Weaknesses:

Speakers not so good, no DVI

Posted Sep 19, 2006 - I bought this LCD on sale from Staples and let me tell you...it was well worth it. I replaced my 17" Viewsonic LCD with this and couldn't be happier. The speakers leave a lot to be desired but I wasn't planning on using them anyway. Otherwise, the picture is bright and clear and adjustments are easy. If you are in the market for a 19" LCD, save yourself some money and buy this one!
