Strengths:

12ms response time at 83 frames per second, DVI and two analog inputs for multiple cpu setup, all picture control adjustments work with DVI interface, 400-nit brightness, new Glare 2H glass treatment

Weaknesses:

None. Too good to be true. Best 19" LCD out there.

Posted Oct 5, 2004 - Awesome LCD. Throw away your old CRT there's finally an LCD that performs. At 83 to 125 frames per second using my DVI interface this LCD has NO ghosting or blurring at all. So far I've played Far Cry, Battlefield Vietnam, Doom 3, and Call of Duty with unbelievable picture quality. I received my LCD from triocomputers online, the box was beaten up but I'm happy to say there are NO dead pixels and the screen with the new glare 2H glass treatment is the best looking screen I've ever seen. It is like the Sony Xbright LCD screens but sweeter. I have to say for the $727 this cost me it is nectar..so sweet. I have it set to the 1280x1024 native resolution and I never thought I would be able to read things but no problem. In games I play at 600x800 and it looks awesome. Final word if you want the best 19' LCD out there Buy this. The viewsonic vp912b makes my old 2001fp 20.1 Dell look like crap.

Strengths:

Bright! Crisp graphics. Clear text. Did I say bright? ! Fast enough to play Half-Life, Far Cry and more. Beautiful.

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Nov 3, 2004 - My first LCD. Been using hi-end CRT's too long. I comparison shopped comparing and contrasting specifications from several mfgrs and multiple websites. I went to see functioning monitors. First impressions were, "Wow bright!". Text is clear. Graphics (depending upon their resolution) are crisp. Because of the 12ms pixel time computer intense games play ghost free. I'm absolutely pleased with my purchase. No Dead Pixels. ViewSonic warrantee is one of the best too. The $700 purchase price was worth it!!!

Strengths:

Bright display, great color saturation, superior text and graphics rendering.

Weaknesses:

The setup process is a little bit cryptic at first, causing the user to push a series of little buttons in a non-intuitive sequence, but I got it after a short time.

Posted Mar 4, 2005 - This is my first LCD monitor and I was somewhat reluctant to make the change from CRT. I work a lot with graphics in the production of my company website and brochure creation. Now, looking back, I wish I had this monitor on my desk long ago. Working in Photoshop is a dream...the monitor is truly a precision device which makes masking/selecting fine details much easier than on my older graphics quality CRT! I'm not a gamer, but I've stuck a couple of DVD movies in my computer and they looked great on the monitor with no motion ghosting. BTW, I have the new anti-glare version. In my opinion it is a 9.5...I wish I were this happy with all of the computer products I buy!

Strengths:

Pivot function, good stand.

Weaknesses:

FALSE specs about the coating

Posted Jan 17, 2005 - I ordered the monitor because I like the fact it has the 2H glare coating. It makes the color more saturated. The only other ones that has glare coating that i know is NEC. However, the 912b monitor I received has anti-glare coating!? If you read Viewsonic's official website even as of today, it clearly stated that VP912b has "Glare, 2H" coating. When I called customer support, they said it was a mistake on the website and they have stopped making 2H glare coating since Nov. 2004. They refused to take my monitor back because the retailor should inform me about this. But I asked them how can anyone know the coating is changed when their official website doesn't provide the correct information? If you look at ALL the reviews from Cnet, Macworld and etc..., all of them said it's 2H glare coating too. But IT IS NOT!

Strengths:

Weaknesses:

display - upper side is darker than the lower: pivoting impossible

Posted Feb 23, 2005 - I bought it because of the good reputation and the pivoting feature. Pivot adjustments worth nothing as long the upper side of the screen is darker than the lower part. Unbelievable. You don't special images to see it, a simple blue desktop will be enough. When you are in normal (without pivoting) mode it is not disturbing, though still visible if you tilt the screen upwards. Then, if you pivot 90 degrees, the "portrait mode"s right side will be darker than the left side which is ridiculous!! Your eyes feel immediatly that they can't correct the difference between the two shades. You need to turn either your head or the screen with cca. 30 degrees to get a balanced lightning. Costumer service admitted that half of the screen is really darker than the other side and it can be a problem for your "visual sences" if you pivot the screen, but there is nothing they can do about it. We plugged in an other 912 and a VP712 as well and both showed the same deviation. My advice: don't even think about the VP series. I tried a Philips this afternoon (190P5) and it was a dream compared to this Viewsonic both in terms of image quality and viewing angles. Screen adjusting features are also very limited, pivoting software is a joke. I have no idea what the testing people see in this thing. Be careful before you buy!!!

5 Star ReviewUpgraded from 19" CRT allows for cleaner desktop. ...

Strengths:

Crisp colors, brightness, nice appearance

Weaknesses:

None so far

Posted Mar 12, 2005 - Upgraded from 19" CRT allows for cleaner desktop. I got this for $520 shipping included on a special promotion from securemart.com. Controls are fairly easy to use and blend into the surround so they are not distracting. Black color frames the screen nicely. Only problem I've had is going from 800x600 to 1280x1040 which 912b seems to want as the default. Although Windows XP let's me custom size the font to 150% to offset the smaller screen size which results from going to the higher resolution, I found that several AOL screens including the welcome screen and a couple of other application screens had windows that weren't resizable and were very hard to read at the smaller size. I've gone back to 800x600 for now but it's probably too expensive a display to use at that setting. Maybe I can work around it down the road, but anyway, seems like an overall nice display.

Posted Jan 28, 2005 - Is it really 12ms? I just bouth a VP912b monitor and It showed up with the antiglare coating. I also set my desktop to "show contents while dragging" windows. It streaks more than my analog monitor. With a 12ms refresh, it shouldn't have this problem. Some manufactures spec just rise time or fall time, it could be that it is 12ms rise and 12ms fall, placing it at a 24ms real number. I have a dell 1905fp at work and this monitor looks pretty much the same. The brightness shipped at 100% (for the reccord..) I'm really confused about what I just bought. Is this bait and switch?
