The Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch Flat Panel LCD Monitor is a wide aspect desktop display that redefines the performance of LCD displays with a stylish Dell industrial design, and advanced functionality. Watch DVDs in natural format and run multiple applications simultaneously. Improve productivity with less scrolling and toggling. The 2005FPW wide aspect Flat Panel LCD also provides an excellent option for video editing and 3D imaging as both source and destination video can be viewed in a single window! With 4 USB 2.0 ports, 2 located on the side, the Dell 2005FPW gives users convenient access points to plug in devices such as keyboards, digital cameras, secondary hard drives and printers. It also supports advanced features such as PIP (picture in picture) and PBP (picture by picture) and can be activated with a touch of a button on the front of the display. With 5.1 inches (130 mm) of height adjustment virtually every user can adjust the display to their exact comfort level and help reduce eye and neck strain. minimize

5 Star ReviewNo dead pixels. This monitor is really awesome. ...

Strengths:

Widescreen, high resolution.

Weaknesses:

Minor backlight leaking.

Posted Jun 26, 2005 - No dead pixels. This monitor is really awesome. I am using a PNY GeForce 6800 with it and it is just unbelievable. All games that I have tried look exceptional. The only flaw is the backlight leaking, but it is very minor.

Weaknesses:

washed out blacks when viewing dvd's,no adjustments for viewing text, dvds, games, etc.tech support in India, can't understand half of them. It's a Dell

Posted Sep 11, 2005 - I sent this one back due to washed out picture on dvd's especially during dark scenes. It took forever speaking to Dell Technical & sales support based in India. I could hardly understand. I bought instead a Samsung 204T 20" monitor that has automatic adjustments for viewing dvd's, text, etc that makes viewing anything look Great!!DvD's are awesome. The samsung doesn't have the USB ports, but it does what a monitor is supposed to do,Give you a GREAT PICTURE

5 Star Review great monitor

Strengths:

widescreen, brightness, extra inputs. PIP. adjustable screen mount

Weaknesses:

aspect ratio for dvds. expected screen to be taller.

Posted Aug 22, 2005 - this lcd is awesome. the picture and color is great. i also love the extra inputs (composite and s-video) and PIP. the only thing i didnt like is when playing dvds, either the picture gets stretched or there is a some black on the top and bottom. nothing too bad, but worth mentioning.

Strengths:

Large screen, low response time.

Weaknesses:

Back light issues.

Posted Feb 27, 2005 - I brought this screen to build my own system. This LCD is kind of expensive at that time. It came with a bad pixel and has some back light issues -- the back light is not even! I won't buy it again until Dell fix this big problem!

Strengths:

bright, crisp, vivid, fast, wide, no dead pixels, build, looks, inputs, uh... price

Weaknesses:

common with LCDs in general -- highly complex and detailed images show graininess and spotting in places

Posted Apr 21, 2005 - All I really have to mention is above. This is a beautiful monitor that I'm very pleased with, but wish LCD technology was far enough along to truly replace my old higher-end CRT monitor for high detail reproduction. LCD monitors still remind me of the early days of digital cameras, where they still just couldn't replace film. As we all know, those days are over and there are very few even professional photographers still using film instead of good quality digital. Hopefully some day soon, the LCD monitors will share in that same wonderful glory.

1 Star Review Dell tv/monitor is very poor quality and can't be repaired

Strengths:

It worked for nine months

Weaknesses:

No picture, no service, no repair by Dell

Posted Nov 7, 2005 - After trying for four days to get someone at Dell to help me get my tv/monitor fixed I found out the following: 1. Dell will not sell the parts to anyone else to fix their produtct. 2. Dell will not fix the tv, they will replace it with another repaired tv that someone else returned to them. 3. Dell will charge you almost the same amount for a replacement as it would cost to go out and buy a new one. 4. Check any Ripoff site and you'll read hundreds of other stories like mine.

5 Star ReviewI have this LCD for 1 day so far, and I am already ...

Strengths:

contrast, sharpness, brightness, aspect ratio

Weaknesses:

price, only 60Hz at 1680x1050

Posted Apr 26, 2005 - I have this LCD for 1 day so far, and I am already loving it! Love the brightness, the sharpness, contrast. And of course the Aspect ratio. I am running it at max resolution, at 60Hz. And that would be the only drawback of the LCD--60Hz max at 1680. Although I have to say I don't see any flickering at 60Hz. Price is an issue, but not with Dell's discounted price. Ebay would be an alternative. Lots of people sell new ones for a fraction of the prices.

4 Star Review UltraSharp 2005FPW Grey 20" LCD Monitor (20" 1680x1050, 75Hz, DVI, PC)

Strengths:

Fast Shipper

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Feb 7, 2006 - Great product, although the wide aspect screen takes a little getting used to and my last monitor had more pixel room on the vertical side, but it's not that big of a deal. For it's price, a great buy and quality is exactly on target to my expectations. Recommendation: If you can help it, use the DVI connection, you'll really see an improvement from the old VGA connector. ;-)

Strengths:

Picture quality...wow!!, PIP, price, style.

Weaknesses:

It wobbles a little on a desk that's not too steady, but I guess that could happen with any LCD since the stand is so thin.

Posted May 4, 2005 - I really like the ability to slide the monitor up and down on the stand, makes hight adjustments really easy sometimes I sit lower and I can just adjust the monitor accordingly. I have read some reviews complaining about it being "too bright". I must say that this is only a factor when I get up in the morning and walk into the dark office, otherwise it's fine. It's actually an advantage on a really lit room. You can adjust the brightness easily with the videocard settings when using the digital input (brightness control is dissabled when using this mode). I just can't imagine getting a better deal on a display ($411 shipped and tax from Dell).

Strengths:

Super sharp picture. Extra hidden peripheral ports built into the monitor. Cool rotation ability.

Weaknesses:

Um, none that I can think of.

Posted Feb 19, 2007 - I bought this as my spouse's birthday present, and got an awesome deal on the price. We have/had good quality monitors, but now we're considering replacing those with two more of these, just because this monitor is so awesome!

Posted Mar 17, 2006 - Great monitor. I hooked it to a new Macintosh Quad G5 with no problem at all. In fact, I liked it so much I bought my son one for his G4 Mac. He has had his about 2 weeks and loves it.

5 Star Review Pretty darn good monitor

Strengths:

No dead pixels, only a couple of inches more total width than my 19" CRT even though it's a widescreen. Had no dead pixels. Looks pretty good even when not in it's native resolution. Games look great

Weaknesses:

only supports 1050 height. It would have been nice to have a native resolution of 1920 x 1200 to be able to play at a resolution of 1600 x 1200 if need be but I do understand that physically an LCD sc

Posted Feb 24, 2006 - This is an awesome monitor. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. It does more than I thought it would. Now I can run things in a window and still see other parts of the desktop because it's got so much horizontal room. I was a little disappointed with the resolution with the one movie I tried watching on it to see how it would work but that's not why I bought this monitor. If you need some extra USB ports it can be strange to hook them to the side of your monitor but they can come in handy as these days you can never have too many usb ports with all the different peripherals that use them. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase and would get another one in a heartbeat.

5 Star Review I want a few more

Strengths:

Big, sharp, thin

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Jan 15, 2006 - I couldn't decide between the wide screen monitor and the standard 4:3 ratio 20.1" Dell monitor. I knew I didn't want a 19" because the resolution was too low. I was afraid that the wide format would not be tall enough to view documents and web pages, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I have a dual monitor setup and would like to get the 17" Dell UltraSharp to replace my secondary CRT monitor. Overall, I am happy with this monitor. I have not seen any of the problems others are talking about. I see what they are talking about, the corners being brighter than the rest of the monitor, but it is not noticable when actually using the computer. The price was also hard to beat. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a good monitor.
