This sequel to Paper Mario delivers a thrilling two-dimensional role-playing adventure. Mario returns to paper form in pursuit of a threat unlike any he's ever faced. 4 Star Review Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

Strengths:

Very good, long storyline with lots of surprises. Great RPG action with lots of differnt moves, items and enemies. Grahpics are quite good.

Weaknesses:

Way too much dialouge. Slow to get going at first. Some levels may be a bit linear.

Posted Apr 22, 2006 - Personally, I loved this game. The story was very deep, with tons of surprises and mysteries. There are quite a few side missions to keep you busy. The boss fights are great and the crowd interacts with the battles, which I thought was very neat. There are seven partners for you to acquire in your party, and they all have a unique set of moves. There were eight chapters in all of pure RPG, and the main goal of Mario is to find out what is behind the Thousand Year Door, But don't get too excited, as the secret is revealed to you part way through the game. The art style was well crafted, and the graphics are great, but not all gamers may like the cartoony style. There are 124 different enemies, but some are just upgrades of weaker ones. There is a ton to do in this game, and you won't be able to put it down. If you don't already, go get Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

5 Star ReviewPaper Mario: TTYD is a sequel to the original Pape ...

Strengths:

This game is so good, you will find yourself playing it more than once.

Weaknesses:

This game should have more challeging.

Posted May 24, 2005 - Paper Mario: TTYD is a sequel to the original Paper Mario on the N64. Like in the past Mario RPG games, this one does not disappoint. It has everything to satisfy a gamer. Graphics 10/10 This is a perfect example of what Paper Mario should be. It has the same paper-style effects as the first game. There are some cel-shaded areas in the game. This is a whole new scheme in which your character can flip around and move in any direction they want with their papery-self. The best graphics you would see in any game would be this. Sound/Music 9/10 The music is very well done. Instead of trying to create an epic, Final Fantasy-esque soundtrack, they kept it simple. The music fits in perfectly with Paper Mario 2's graphics, gameplay, and plot. Even though it is simple, it is still pretty darn good. I enjoyed the music, especially in towns you'll encounter on your journey. Unlike other RPGs, the battle music does not get repetitive, and you'll hardly notice it's there after a while. The sound is similar to that of all other Mario games, RPG. Story 9/10 Peach has gone on holiday and finds a treasure map. She sends a letter to Mario along with the map to come and help her find the treasure. When our plumber friend arrives Peach is nowhere to be found. Where did she go? It turns out that Peach has been kidnapped but this time it isn't by Bowser. Oh no, Nintendo decided to give Bowser a break this time, or at least, sort of. Your only lead to get Peach back is to collect the seven crystal stars so that you can open the Thousand Year Door. After playing through the story for awhile you learn that there is something else besides treasure behind the Thousand Year Door, something more sinister and even worse is that the door is weakening and will soon open automatically, so the only way to make sure it stays shut is with the power of the seven crystal stars.

5 Star ReviewFirst came Mario and the Legend of the Seven Stars ...

Strengths:

Mario franchise...they have almost never gone wrong. Even better...mario rpgs...NEVER have gone wrong. This game is one of the best RPGS out and also is very funny.

Weaknesses:

Hmmm...don't know.

Posted Jun 4, 2005 - First came Mario and the Legend of the Seven Stars(SNES), then Paper Mario (N64), then Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (GBA) and now this: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Like all its predecessors before it, this game has the humor and the ease of use that make this franchise such a great game. Personally, I prefer this RPG series over even Final Fantasy! (Notably one of the best RPGs ever made for any system. I know many people will disagree with me on that, but I just prefer games without too much depth but at the same time without too much superficiality. I think during other parts of my life...why think too hard on a game you know?) The length of the game is usually just long enough to keep me interested and not keep me in the house for too long. I don't have to become a couch potato to ever beat these RPGS. But the game is not so short that the story is undeveloped. Overall, this game along with the others I have mentioned are totally recommended by me. When you see a mario RPG, you can't get disappointed.

Weaknesses:

Strengths:

Great sense of humor. Colorful and vivid graphics. Great sound.

Weaknesses:

None.

Posted Sep 13, 2005 - The thousand year door. What does it do and what happens when you pass through it. You will have a good laugh playing this game. The dialog and story pokes fun at Mario and all of his cohorts in this great adventure. The first paper Mario game was great the this is just as good. Wonderful music and sound effects as you fight bad guy on stage in front of an audience. Lots of mini-games and coins to collect. Go get Paper Mario now.

5 Star ReviewIf you like RPG turn-based fighting and the zany c ...

Strengths:

Excellent storyline, graphics are great, fun

Weaknesses:

None, this is a great game

Posted Apr 27, 2005 - If you like RPG turn-based fighting and the zany characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, this is the game for you. The cartoon like graphics fit this title perfectly as you control Mario, and a host of other wild characters that will join your party along the way, in a quest to save none other than the always in trouble, Princess Peach. What makes this game different from the others is the turn-based fighting style when you attack your enemies. The screen will switch to the characters being on a stage with an audience of Koopa Troopas, Goombas, Shyguys, possibly Luigi, etc. The turn based fighting then begins, with each side taking a turn to attack, defend, etc. When you successfully hit your opponent with an attack, hit points are reduced by the damage that you administer, and vice versa when your opponent attacks you. There are a wild array of special moves and combo attacks that you can perform with your characters and also, the audience actually can get into the action too, usually praising you (by raising your statistics) or by throwing things on stage at you (causing damage) when you do not meet their expectations. This game is truly fun. With a crazy story to go along with all the action, witty dialogue, and the amount of exploration and levels you will travel through, this game is a must have.

Posted Jun 2, 2005 - Nintendo/Paper Mario Fanboys will enjoy this game to say the least. This is the second of the Paper Mario series and it will not disappoint. 5 Star Review Paper Mario

Strengths:

1. Mario's spring jump; 2. Yoshi can run fast

Weaknesses:

1. Mario doesn't talk; 2. All the goombas look alike

Posted Aug 20, 2005 - For this review's strength's ad weakness's I decided to straight to the source, my 10 year old son. He's played most of the way through the game and has thoroughly enjoyed it. He also purchased the game guide after playing about halfway through to get more detail about all of the surroundings.

4 Star Review Worthy of the lineage

Strengths:

Depth, humor, and fun factor

Weaknesses:

Audio is weak to nonexistent, not a traditional rpg

Posted Aug 24, 2005 - Each of Nintendo's consoles have now had a Mario rpg game, and while Paper Mario is closer to its 64 version than the Snes, all three share a surprisingly deep and robust game experience. At face value, Paper Mario seems like a watered down rpg, a lite version of the epic Square/Enix offerings. Yes, the combat engine is different, yes navigating the world almost feels like a sidescroller, but different in this case leads to a rewarding rpg. Characters, quests and backgrounds ooze Nintendo style and there are a huge number of references for gamers familiar with Nintendo. The main problem I found was characters remain silent; for a world so vibrant, this continued ignoring of sound stands out all the more. It does not kill the game, but Nintendo should have included it. A word of warning though, this game is not for all, especially if you disliked the 64 version or dislike many of the Nintendo offerings because they are "too Mario." The title, and cover, should make this abundantly clear, though.

5 Star ReviewAfter the amazing Paper Mario, Intelligent Systems ...

Strengths:

Fantastic game.

Weaknesses:

A little slow to start.

Posted May 18, 2005 - After the amazing Paper Mario, Intelligent Systems comes right back at us with a stellar sequel. Mario fans will love it, RPG fans will love it, and fans of both (that's most of us, right?) will be hard-pressed to find a more enjoyable game. It may take a little while to really get going, but once it does, it's a great time indeed.

5 Star Review Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door (GC)

Strengths:

Great graphics and sounds, offbeat storyline and action

Weaknesses:

None apparent

Posted Nov 27, 2005 - Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is a sequel to the N64 game. It's an RPG story with Mario off rescuing Princess Peach, through some very offbeat action combat sequences and plot. It looks great and sounds great, and it's another must-have for the Gamecube.

4 Star Review Paper Mario

Strengths:

Brilliant game design, graphics and sound

Weaknesses:

Kinda drags in certain parts of the game

Posted Aug 30, 2005 - Paper Mario was much better than I thought it would be. Nintendo has managed to craft a gem that incorporates a unique and fun battle system with an engaging storyline. Though I'm not really the biggest fan of the 'paper' graphics, Nintendo really did the best job possible creating top quality graphics with them. Some of the scenes in this game are visually brilliant but it's nothing less than expected from Nintendo. My only complaint about Paper Mario is that there are a few hours in the game that are slow and sometimes just seem to serve as filler to make the game last longer. Super Mario Rpg is still king as far I'm concerned but this game is still well worth a purchase.

4 Star Review Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

Strengths:

The sidekick dynamic is entertaining and helps keep your interest.

Weaknesses:

Too much dialogue. Gameplay gets repetitive after a while.

Posted Aug 31, 2005 - It has mario and he is paper and stuff. Its pretty sweet being all papery. (I like the presentation and style of the game). Rehash of old Mario concepts in an rpg setting - though very well done.
