I ordered a notebook from Gateway after making sure that it would arrive the following week. Their order tracking system showed that the notebook would arrive 8 days later than initially promised. When I called to cancel the order, the person I had initially placed the order with not only refused to cancel the order, he hung up on me ... twice. I had to go up the service ladder before I could cancel my order. I will never buy anything from gateway again nor recommend them. |

I placed an order for photo paper and for some unknown reason it was cancelled without notifying me. When I called to check my order status, I was placed on hold for over 15 minutes and when I finally did get "help" she could not tell me anything. I will never buy anything from them again. |

I placed an order online on Sept. 5 (item listed in stock). A week later I had to call to check the status and was told that the item was backordered and I should expect it by Sept. 26th. I don't so much mind the wait--what is bothersome is that the only way you know the status of your product is if you call customer service. I was hesitant to order because of the bad reviews but they had the best price. I am wondering if the wait is worth the $10 I am saving. |

(Edited September 19th by rpmask) In the strongest possible terms I advise buy somewhere else unless you are 100% sure it will work perfectly out of the box. I recently received 2 Canon MiniDV camcorders from Gateway. Both were defective. Gateway will not give me my money back without a 15% restocking charge even though these are defective. Their customer service reps on phone and email gave conflicting info from each other. What happened to their down-home cow image and service and support? |

Week later, called customer service, order still "processing" possibly for anyother week! Say they have no control over shipping info that appears on the web site. (PriceGrabber shows them as having these items in stock.) Emailed customer support for update, now say I need to WIRE the money!!! They are totally out of control over there. NEVER AGAIN. Cancelled order. |

I ordered a Gateway laptop on July 27th with an expected arrival date of August 6. On August 6 Gateway called and changed the arrival date to August 20th and blamed their suppliers. I called Gateway on August 12th and the rep said the laptop is in manufacturing and it takes 48 to 72 hours to build. Last night, August 18, Gateway once again blamed their suppliers and pushed back the arrival date to August 28. UNBELIEVABLE. I am now shopping for a Dell and will cancel my order with Gateway. |

I recently ordered probably my 10th system from Gateway. I received it in less than a week. They were very friendly and when I asked for advice, they did not recommend their top system, saying I didn't need that much speed and could save money by buying a mid-grade computer. I am very satisfied with their service and with the computer's operation. Out of all Gateway systems I have ordered, I have only had trouble with one, and they sent a tech out and repaired it promtly. Gateway's great! |

In early April I ordered a Velbon tripod for a vacation. Despite promise, it did not ship for over a week. When I called to complain, there was no offer to expedite. Finally, reluctantly, the woman agreed to ship OVERNIGHT, since I was departing in two days. It did not arrive in time for my vacation. Bottom line-- she lied to me. Instead of overnight, as promised, she shipped it 2-DAY. Will never order there again. |

We ordered backup software three weeks ago and no package has arrived. We finally called to find out that they want a faxed copy of our order, apparently because we used a PO. However, we already have an account with them, there was no notification of this request, no followup from the rep, no notification email, and worst of all, they won't tell us what the fax number is. Meanwhile my file server isn't being backed up. I can't say I'd ever order from Gateway again. |

went to buy a gateway on 90 days same as cash they would not do it but dell will finace me one im glad gateway didnt because i heard gateway computers were no good it would be a waste of money so im going to buy a dell THANKS GATEWAY |

Very friendly C/S reps via 800 #. Got a good price on a belkin power adapter, with free ground shipping. So far so good. Unfortunately my address + zip somehow got mixed up on order, so item was shipped to wrong address locally. Corrected with carrier on same day of delivery (the power of item tracking!) so all's well that ends well. 3.5 stars overall, considering mishap. |

Dealing with Gateway since first laptop in 93, then a desktop (problems that I learned to deal with) and recently, a 450XL notebook. At store found salesman to be just that, a salesman. Not very knowledgeable about notebook/digital camcorder I wanted. When laptop came (earlier then predicted) I began reading and using it. I found I should have gone with the larger harddrive (for the video downloads) They changed it out for the larger unit for advertised cost. Would buy again. |

I had no problems with order or shipment. Placed my order late Thursday night and printer arrived Tuesday. My only complaint is that I never received an e-mail confirmation of my order, ship date, etc. Despite the secrecy I can't complain. Best price and free shipping. I'd order from them again. |

Last week Gateway was running a 10% off sale on cameras. I ordered a Canon S400 with an extra battery, and UPS delivered it 3 days later. I would definitely buy from these guys again. |

The Accessory Store at Gateway sent my merchandise FAST. The bad reviews must be from people ordering other than accessories. Forget about order tracking, my order arrived the day before the email confirming it had been shipped, and three days before the estimated arrival. I would buy accessories from Gateway again. |

I got on a live chat with Gateway sales and they agreed to sell me the item with free shipping. Order received in 3 days. Wrong item shipped. Called customer service and they will send correct item with shipping labels to return the incorrect item. |

Update 5/20/03: I too ran into the free shipping issue. I contacted Pricegrabber and then I went back to the Gateway website and realized I had to enter the coupon code given on the website for free shipping. It is "noshipa". Simply an oversight on my part. |

They use defective parts, expecting customers to not finding out. I did..three times...even the replacement they sent were defective old parts. No ethics... I've been dealing with this reatiler for approximately one year both via the internet and their retail stores. Gateway personnel have been knowledgeable, courteous and helpful. Product quality is great, tech support personnel are competent and shipping times are better than expected. I highly recommend them. |

I ordered a Canon S45 digital camera from Gateway's website on Apr 11. The website said it would ship in 3-4 days but the first confirmation email I got said it would likely be shipped in 3 weeks. I was pissed, but the next day I got email saying the order was shipped and will receive it in 4-5 days. I got it on Apr 18 by std ground shipping. I am very happy with the service. Don't put too much weight into the negative comments on this site. I would buy from Gateway again. |

Ordered a wireless Access Point that shows up as "In Stock - Ships in 2 or 3 days." 4 days later checked the status and it says it's been released to manufacturer. Called and got someone who was polite enough, but apparently the item was backordered and wouldn't ship for a month! Mentioned that the item is still showing up on website as In Stock. The rep apologized but did nothing. How can a supposedly reputable company lie outright on their website?!?!?! |

Beware ordering anything from Gateway!! Like another rater here, I also ordered merchandise from Gateway, was assured by the sales rep. that the low price was due to gain attention to their site. Surprise! The next day I (and many other people) recieved tense e-mails telling us our orders would not be honored. It seems honor is not something Gateway understands. Warning!! This merchant is disreputable and does not stand by their word. Caveat Emptor! |
