Garmin GPSMAP 76CS

Strengths: Quick signal lock. Usefull in my car, motorcycle, and boat.

Weakness: I ordered it and the next day found out that Garmin is releasing the x version which will allow SD memory.

I was looking for a GPS to use in SAR, as well as on my motorcycle and in the Zodiac. This one truely works well in all areas. I love the way the buttons allow you to page forward and backwards. Also, it in not difficult to navigate through the pages without haveing read the manual. The buttons simply make sense!

Garmin GPSMAP 76CS Portable Navigator

Strengths: Automapping to/from designations, Color, 3D Capabilities, Altimeter, Great for land and water, and GPS Games!?!

Weakness: It doesn't always plot the best course to/from designations on roadmap. It's also a little pricey but well worth it for all the features included.

I have tried other GPS systems. They all tend to favor either land or water applications only. This GPS is very versatile. We purchased the mounting kits for the car and our boat, and have tested it on both the local roads and on our boat. With the right charts and road maps it can automatically mark some good points of interest (bathrooms, restaurants, good fishing spots, etc.) We can't wait to take it to the mountains to use the 3D, altimeter, and topographic functions on the hiking trails. This is one of the best hand-held GPS systems ever.

Garmin GPSMAP 76CS

Strengths: Full of user friendly features. Portable and easy to handle and operate.

Weakness: Their are so many features on this unit, that it is a little time consuming to learn about it all in a short amount of time.

If you are looking to purchase one GPS unit that has it all, this is definitely the one.
It is very easy to operate.
The only down side to this unit is that it is so packed full of features, it will take a while to learn about them all and all that they are capable of doing.
Therefore, if you are looking for a unit that you can just pull out of the package and start rolling, this is probably not the device for you.
Also, there have been many comments on its size or bulkiness. I do not find the size of this handheld unit to be a problem whatsoever. It fits in my hand perfectly and the buttons are easily accessible and easy to operate while holding unit in one hand.

Does as advertised

Strengths: This GPS does just as advertised and has a great color screen. It is a very flexible unit that allows multiple setups on your screens for your personal preferences. Easy to learn menus.

Weakness: None to speak of.

Would recommend an external antenna if using in an automobile. The newer model 76csx has a removable memory card for those who require more memory or the ease of adding maps and data.
