This affordable Personal Travel Assistant comes with many of the popular features found in the nuvi 660 minus Bluetooth wireless technology, an integrated traffic receiver and FM transmitter perfect for everyday navigation. It features a super-bright 4.3" widescreen display for improved map viewing, POI lookup and MP3/audio book playback. This landscape display has white backlight and a touchscreen for easy use. nuvi 650 comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator NT street maps, including a hefty points of interest (POIs) database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. Simply touch the sunlight-readable color screen to enter a destination, and nuvi takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. It even announces the name of exits and streets so you never have to take your eyes off the road. In addition, nuvi 650 accepts custom points of interest, such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. The European version even includes a preloaded safety camera database containing the location of safety cameras for parts of Europe. Navigation is just the beginning. nuvi 650 includes many must-have entertainment and travel tools including MP3 player, audio book player (subscription to Audible.com required), JPEG picture viewer, currency converters and more. It also comes with optional FM traffic alerts, Garmin Lock (an anti-theft feature) and configurable vehicle icons that let you select car-shaped graphics to show your location on the map. minimize

5 Star Review Terrific GPS !!!

Strengths:

Accuracy is incredible, plenty of gas stations and restaurants as well as anything else you may need to find.

Weaknesses:

Suction cup holder is small and doesn't extend out as far as I need but doesnt really belong as a weakness.

Posted Jul 12, 2007 - This is a fab GPS, that does everything right out of the box, no need to know anything, just open and go! The only difference with this one and the 660 is the lack of bluetooth, but most that want bluetooth are walking around with one hanging on their ear anyway!! This is a great GPS

5 Star Review Nuvi 650

Strengths:

Logical interface, easy to use. Bright and easy to read display

Weaknesses:

Shipped with only the "Quick Start" manual. Did not include the full product manual, but it is readily downloadable from Garmin.com

Posted Jul 2, 2007 - Easy and logical entry and clear display make this a gem. Mounts easily, but the flip up antenna is not very convienent. Garmin should do away with this and put it internal to the unit. Overall, the unit is great and I would buy again.

5 Star Review This is a Good Choice for Technically Challenged Users

Strengths:

Ease of use, screen size, accuracy, support from Garmin, spoken directions, quick satellite access.

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Dec 20, 2007 - This is the second 650 I have purchased. I purchased one for myself to avoid getting lost (it's a guy thing)and after my wife saw how easy it was to use (she's not technically oriented) she wanted one for her car too. Finding the shortest way to get to where we need to go without getting lost is a great way to save gas money and marriages. It doesn't have the bells and whistles that are on the 660 and higher, but it's all we need for how we use it.

5 Star Review Excellent purchase, especially for the price

Strengths:

Accuratcy, screen size, price, POI capability, too many more to list

Weaknesses:

None.

Posted Jun 5, 2007 - I bought the Nuvi 650 a week after it was released on a pricing error in the $400 range after almost buying a Nuvi 360 hours before. I have been shopping GPS units for a long time for an additional unit in my Jeep along with the factory installed one in my Charger. After using many units, reading thousands of reviews and comparing all the specs, I was set on getting a Garmin. While TomTom seems to be the only other major player in GPS, their Go series have been plagued by dud units and other issues. While their price was lucrative enough, especially for the features, I was just not happy with their bulkiness and the fear of buying one that would die on me. Enter the nuvi 650 and 660. I have no use for bluetooth in a GPS so I was set on the 650 aside from its entry price of $600+. Had the prices not dropped at just the right time, I would have passed on it. It is a FANTASTIC unit. Excellent battery life, clarity in the sun, lightweight, intuitive menus and I LOVE the POI capability. I find myself making dozens of POIs and uploading them based on what city I am in. When I go to Chicago, I upload a list of all the Chicago landmarks, CA (el) stations, Deep Dish Pizza restaurants and rest areas on the way. You can hit the satellite strength indicator and even see all the satellites you are locked on to as well as their positions in orbit, and even the sun and moon locations. Even when I don't need GPS guidance I use the Nuvi to see how fast I am going, my average speed and how long I have sat at stoplights. Just tap on the arrival time in the lower left corner and it brings up a great display that tracks your speed and information.

5 Star Review 6 stars out of 5!

Strengths:

Voice direction

Weaknesses:

None really

Posted Dec 4, 2007 - Anyone looking to buy a GPS, stop researching and get this product. I have used it everywhere I have gone, and directions have been spot on. The display is big enough to display all details, and the touch screen is very easy to use. I use a stylus pen and it works just as well as actually touching the screen, and safer while driving as well. For all the bad rap the windshield mount has taken in CyberSpace, I have yet to have any issue w. it, and that includes transferring it between three different vehicles. If for some reason it doesnt stick, make sure you are pressing it firmly against the windshield before locking it down, or moisten the cup. A definite good investment for anyone looking to buy a gps. I paid $432 for it, and it's worth every single penny. A downright steal at the currently advertised price!

5 Star Review Garmin 650 GPS

Strengths:

Accurate, easy to use, large screen size visible in the sun, vocal directions with street names

Weaknesses:

Price a bit high. Also, has a turn by turn mode, but when you reach the turn, it goes back to main map mode. Keeping it active would be a nice software improvement.

Posted Oct 31, 2007 - This is a great unit. Large touchscreen makes it easy to see and use. Capable of displaying pictures and playing mp3, but limited by amount of internal memory. If you get this, buy the friction mount for your dash, it is very stable and you don't have to worry about suction cups failing. Also get a case for it to protect the screen when not in use, too bad it does not come with one considering the price. One accessory I would not recommend is the Fodor's travel card. Very limited in geographies it covers and also gives inaccurate locations. For a restaurant I was going to in the Berkshires, it was taking me 2 miles away from where this long term restaurant was located. The built in mapping software in the 650 was right on for the same destination.

5 Star Review 3-week review

Strengths:

Bright screen easy to read in broad daylight. Easy to disconnect to take with you.

Weaknesses:

Sent me to three non-existant restaurants in Orlando. Maps should be updated more often. Needs more choices of voices. This one can be irritating at times.

Posted Oct 26, 2007 - My Nuvi 650 is my second unit. It is head and shoulders above my first which was an off-brand that drove me crazy because it often couldn't find the address I needed. I used this one to drive from Alabama to Orlando, FL and it had no problem getting me to my destination. The only minor quirk I found is, I don't know what criteria it uses to determine the route because, although it it supposed to take the fastest route, it sometimes took me through some residential districts, rather than the main street. I do not advise using it on routes you usually take, unless you have some time to kill. It will get you to your destination but not the way you would expect. All in all, I really like it and I would buy this unit again.

5 Star Review nuvi 650

Strengths:

well made, easy to use, excellent customer support from garmin

Weaknesses:

still the older flip antenna, not like the replacement unit 750, did not come with the leather case

Posted Nov 23, 2007 - was looking at the 750 and 650, decided to purchase the 650 due to price. owned 350 and this one has a bigger screen. completely happy with the unit. one suggestion for garmin is to standardize accessories for different units. case in point - 650 w/o case but 610, 660, 670 and 680 all come with case???

5 Star Review NUVI 650

Strengths:

Image quality, size(can fit in shirt pocket), speed aquiring satelites & calculating your route

Weaknesses:

A little costly but well worth it.

Posted Jul 20, 2007 - This is my second Garmin GPS. My first was a Garmin Street Pilot III. purchased 2004. This unit (Garmin 650) out performs my old unit. It incorporates a new high speed chip, making it a lot quicker than the older Garmin units.

5 Star Review The best gadget ever

Strengths:

Speed of finding a location, detour instructions, street name alerts, 3d directions animation, accurate maps, immediate route recalculation if needed

Weaknesses:

None found yet

Posted Aug 15, 2007 - I've just bought the unit and took it on a trip from Boston to Newport. When we've got stuck in traffic, used a detour feature and got around using back streets completely missing the traffic. All of that while using the MP3 feature. This is really a great device.

5 Star Review Garmin nuvi 650

Strengths:

Nice size screen. Very accurate and easy to use.

Weaknesses:

See comments below.

Posted Dec 1, 2007 - Windshield suction cup needs to be cleaned with rubbing alcohol between uses. MP3 music sounds "tinny" as it bounces off the windshield. But if your car has a cassette player, buy a $20 cassette adapter for CD and MP3 players at Radio Shack and get very good sound through your car's stereo speakers. If you don't need Bluetooth technology, buy the nuvi 650 instead of the nuvi 660.

5 Star Review garmin 650

Strengths:

quickly reroutes and recalculates. I trusted in maps, but i gave it a try on my trip to boston with just the gps. And since then it never has failed me yet. Ive used it more than a handful of times.

Weaknesses:

none so far

Posted Dec 19, 2007 - definitely a good purchase. I hated people giving me directions and finally i was able to afford something that will keep me on the road directly to my destination. I love the detour feature.

5 Star Review Simply the Best

Strengths:

EASY TO CONNECT AND REMOVE plus has a nice leather case. Found it for half off-$349

Weaknesses:

Twice it has told me to turn even though the highlighted route shoes that i should keep going straight.

Posted Feb 9, 2008 - I am a 1st time user but this GPS is awesome. It has a large screen easy for me to see and the mount works great on my leather dashboard. I didn't need to purchase a seperate one. It is also easy to read in sunlight. I am in Florida so I worried about this. It didn't matter at all, what a relief! I can easily remove it each time I go in a place. The voice directions is perfect because I wasn't comfortable looking at the monitor just like I don't like looking at maps. It is always accurate with the 2 exceptions above and it quickly fixed itself. The 1st time I used it, I found a shortcut to school that avoids the main highway I usually take. It is going to save me so much time when I go places that are south of me. The traffic alerts are great and it helped me avoid a bad accident the other night. The POI are amazing. I didn't think I would care about this but have used it more than anything. It even includes phone numbers which is very helpful. I highly recommend this system.

5 Star Review Great Product - very precise

Strengths:

Strong GPS Signal. Turns on quick. Fast response & 'recalculate'. Good sound & Audio

Weaknesses:

Not sure if it speaks the street names & numbers. Input Keyboard is not standard keyboard.

Posted Feb 19, 2008 - Great product. Becareful with the windsheild holder. You have to LOCK it. or else it will fall off. I thought you just have to stick it...but after it fell about 5-7 times I figured out you have to lock the holloster to the windsheild or dash board. They input keyboard is not a standard computer keyboard, so somtimes it may take time to find the right letter or number. Overall very satisfied. GPS Signal is very strong and turns ok quickly. It froze once, but rebooted quickly. I guess its best to pull over before you try to input an address. Nice features: Change voice (i have a sexy british female). Add favorite locations. Play MP3s (SD Card). HOME link, one click to home destination. Does not come with CD-ROM or Case. NO Bluteooth or wi-fi or FM Transmitter. Who needs them, it has good sound quality.
