Good hardware; software and support is spotty
Large screen, good daylight visibility, good voice output, good basic street nav
Awkward user interface - too hard to do simple things you would want to do with a nav product. Customer support has some problems.
Posted Jul 30, 2007 - Customer support is spotty. Had to return the first unit because updating on the computer rendered it inoperative, not fixable by the owner. Phone support said the software shipped with the unit was faulty and a patch was expected in 2 weeks; return the unit to vendor. Vendor said it was a known problem and replaced the unit promptly. However, TomTom email support said there was nothing wrong with the software and I must have disconnected the unit while updating (I didn't). And, anyway, Is there any excuse for having a unit become completely inoperable and not user-fixable, regardless of what computer interaction takes place? Computers come with a complete factory-restore capability. Why not a nav system? It's just a computer with GPS.
