Garmin nuvi 770 GPS

WOW, WOW & WOW

Posted Feb 15, 2008 - I got my Nuvi 770 two weeks ago. First two or three times it took a while to acquire a satellite. Now, I turn it on and within 7 to 10 seconds it has locked on satellites. It appears that initially it took few minutes, but after the 3rd use, it acquires satellites almost instantaneous. I am very happy about it. For the past 4 years I have been using Garmin V model and I used both unit side by side. Boy O’ Boy, Garmin has come a long way, too quick too fast. On Nuvi, ease of entering new waypoint, finding POI in route, viewing maps and much more.….Route re-calculation is done in a NY minute. Got Garmin to mail me free Mapsource disk so I can plan a whole trip on my laptop and transfer the info to my unit. I am going to Italy in few weeks, and the real test of Europe maps will be at that time. More to follow after Italy trip

Garmin Nuvi 770

Posted May 27, 2008 - Primary GPS functions are excellent. It is very easy to use and performs well. No trouble with city buildings. The FM transmitter could be a little stronger. The only real complaint I have is that when using the Nuvi to control my mobile phone, the sound quality to the listener is poor. A noise cancelling feature on the mic would help.

Posted May 27, 2008 - To save on gas and time, get this Garmin Nuvi 770, it is worth the $. You will also like that it speaks out so you do NOT have to look at the screen for directions.

Verizon Compatibility Problems

Posted May 16, 2008 - One of the primary reasons I purchased this unit was to be able to bluetooth it to my Verizon Phone (VX8350) to access my voice mail at work. The unit works until I hit the " * " key to access my messages....and that's when the trouble starts. Hitting this key causes it to switch from the unit's touch tone screen back to the Verizon Phone key pad! I wanted to be able to just touch the touch tone screen and go through my voice mail menu options. Repeated calls to Garmin produced no results. After updating the unit's software (pretty easy) they erroneously blamed it upon Verizon. Verizon blamed it on defects in the units bluetooth software. The bottom line...all of the bragged about features will not work with the most current and popular phone from Verizon! Watch out...Garmin & Verizon will tell you anything to make a sale and then not deliver.

nuvi 770 GPS

Posted Feb 26, 2008 - Got this unit as a Christmas gift. It's always been slow in acquiring satellites. At first we thought it's due to location. However, after trying using it in 4 different states (HI, WA, TX, and NM), we started to think something was wrong with our unit. On day 35, it stopped working completely. We called Garmin's customer service, who were very helpful. They walked us through a software update and since that failed to solve the problem, they offered an immediate replacement.

Garmin Nuvi 770 highly recommended.

Posted Jan 31, 2008 - We have had a few navigation devices prior to this, including Tom Tom Go. This is by far the most accurate, to within a few feet. In addition to directing you to a place along well-chosen routes, it will tell you on which side of the road is your final destination, a useful feature in moving traffic. The points-of-interest database is extensive and accurate thus far. We have yet to try the many extra features that are included in this unit, but our primary concern was no more "turn around" and getting misdirected by our also feature-laden Tom Tom. After a few weeks of use, we trust that the 770 will get us where we need to go. Incidentally, the 770 is the Europe-inclusive version of the 760, but the prices we found were close enough that we opted for the 770 for use during travel.

Great!

Posted Jan 17, 2008 - I love this Nuvi. It's one of the few that has the European maps pre-loaded, which saves me money in buying those later (I travel back and forth some). The multiple-point routing is a nice addition, especially when you've got a bunch of errands to run, and the nuvi will even sort them for you to be the best route. The Mapsource that you use to plan trips on your computer didn't come with it, but when I called Garmin, they sent it to me happily. SO much more about this unit, I love. Just wish it came with a case.

overpriced

Posted Dec 30, 2007 - Nuvi 770 is an overpriced unit that is not much different from its much cheaper sisters. Long satellite acquisition time. Bluetooth is not reliably usable. No software to plan your trip on home computer. Does not accept an address from search engines like TomTom and Google. The interface need work. For example there is no simple menu button to take you to the menu during certain applications and you have to keep pushing back 5 or 6 times which becomes bothersome after a while. No dead reckoning. Very slow when searching for points of interest beyond 5-10 miles which tells me something about their processor speed for such an expensive unit. What about accessories? Shouldn't they at least include a carrying case for this top of the line unit? My brother in laws older Nuvi does some of the same things with slightly faster speed! Save your money and buy a cheaper Nuvi or a TomTom.
