4 Star Review Paint Shop Pro XI

Strengths:

A lot of features for a great low price!

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Jul 21, 2007 - I debated getting this or saving up to get Adobe Photoshop. But with the sale price and rebate offered, it was near-free. Decided I could live with Paint Shop Pro for my amateur needs. The file browsing and organizing functions alone will make it worthwhile for me. I have found it fairly easy to edit photos, and I look forward to putting it to good use.

4 Star Review Low cost Photoshop replacment

Strengths:

Features of Photoshop for less the cost. Integrated photo album makes selection of editing easier.

Weaknesses:

Some functions are not that easy to use.

Posted Feb 28, 2008 - Whenever people mentions photo editing these days, the first software comes to mind for many might be the name Photoshop. Paint Shop Pro, on the other hand, can be considered as slimmed down version of Photoshop with main editing tools and functions intact, but it did not receive all the raves that Photoshop receives. Paint Shop Pro Photo XI was able to bring the gap between Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop closer. Even though Paint Shop Pro Photo XI does not have all the functions/features that Photoshop have, for example like plug-ins, but Photo XI still have many of the features of Photoshop, from the simple brightness, contrast, color, size adjusting to the noise removal, photo filters, distortion adjustment, and photo level adjustment. It also features integrated photo album that allows organization and easier editing selection. And it is priced at fraction of cost of the Photoshop. Some of the functions of Photo XI are not as easy to use as advertised. The distraction removal is one of them. It is not simply some point and click and it is done, it takes some used to. Overall, Photo XI is a great tool for those that wants photo editing but either have no need for all the Photoshop's professional functions or does not find Photoshop worth of its price. Whatever the reason, Paint Shop Pro Photo XI is a great Photoshop replacement.

3 Star Review Improved from Version X

Strengths:

Better interection with other Corel components

Weaknesses:

Loads slower than I'd like

Posted Jan 22, 2008 - I have used PSP since well before JASC was acquired by Corel, and have used other Corel apps (Wordperfect, Quattro) for many years. When I tried upgrading to Version X, my existing Corel apps were seriously corrupted, necessitating uninstallation and registry cleaning, which moved me back to Version 9. I tried out Version XI in a virtual machine environment, and those incompatibilities seemed to have been resolved. But XI seems to load and operate slower on my aging PC, and I think I will stand pat for the leaner Ver 9 until such time as I upgrade my hardware.

4 Star Review PSP 11 - Excellent but slow

Strengths:

New tools and features make this a stronger product. I have used PSP and Photoshop Elements in the past and like PSP much better. The price is also a strength.

Weaknesses:

It's slow. I have used PSP versions 4, 6, 8 and now 11. They have progressively gotten slower with each version. However, I found Photoshop Elements to be similarly slow and not as many features.

Posted Aug 29, 2007 - I give PSP 11 four stars based on it's features. As I said, I have used several past versions and Photoshop Elements. I still find that PSP is the best low cost image editor for the features it has. The price is excellent considering the rebates. I paid $55 including shipping, but I have $35 in rebates, so my final cost was only $20. Can't beat this price for the features in PSP. I would purchase again, but usually buy every other version.
