Video Software

Strengths:

A lot of features

Weaknesses:

pricey and a little worky to use.

Posted Jun 1, 2008 - I bought this for my Sony handycam HDV. I tried looking for a software that will work easily with my camcorder and this is what they recommend. I found out that this Sony software is on the pricey side like any other Sony product.

Sony vegas movie studio and dvd maker

Strengths:

Easy to learn, it does take some time because it will do so much but the real time help assistant make easy and fun.

Weaknesses:

Sometimes have trouble sending movie from movie studio to dvd maker.

Posted Apr 25, 2008 - Overall this is a great product. It allows you to do a lot of things with home movies to enhance their viewing. Especially if you are converting old 8mm silent movies, you can add sound tracks, music, voice, special effects and more. You can also do a lot of easy editing. I have only used windows movie maker before this one. Windows is easier but won't do nearly as much. Have fun with this one.

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition 8

Strengths:

Although I'm no professional, this product can do all I need it to do to produce outstanding videos. I especially like the pan/crop motion effect for stills. DVD creation process easy and attractive.

Weaknesses:

Huge user manual. That's good, I guess, but some job printing over 400 pages!

Posted 1 year ago - I’ve been using different programs to put my stills and videos together in nice productions. I decided to buy Sony Vegas 8 and find it to be great. The program is quite sophisticated, but user friendly. Nice effects, transitions. Pan/crop is a great effect. Four sound/video tracks are enough for me. Easy drag and drop to add stills or videos. Adding titles is easily accomplished and you can add motion to them. Overall, I am very happy with this program. I am using the online bulletin board for help/suggestions for more involved productions with it.

Highly recommend Sony Vegas Movie Studio

Strengths:

Possibilities are endless. There wasn't anything I wanted to do that I couldn't. How me how tutorials are very nice.

Weaknesses:

Can be difficult to use at first (the possibilities are endless!)

Posted Apr 9, 2008 - You can download a free 30 day full trial from sony.com I used the trial almost everyday to edit our amateur wedding footage and loved it! There are way more options than windows movie maker. The only difference in the Sony Vegas Movie Studio and the Platinum version (that I could figure out) is the 5.1 surround sound option and you can edit HDV footage if you have a HDV camcorder. Sony also includes DVD Architect Studio software that is much nicer that using Nero.
