IDE Ultra ATA/100 ATA-6 - 5400 rpm - 8 MB Buffer - 2.5" - MPN: WD1200VE
Strengths: large capacity for notebook drive, runs cool and is quiet
Weakness: 1 year warranty on reail drive kits, no installation instruction in retail drive kits
Even though this is a notebook drive I'm using this drive in my desktop computer not a notebook. I chose this drive after careful research because reviews I read said it ran cool and quiet. Thus far I haven't had any problems with the drive and it does run 10C cooler and much quieter than the 3.5 7200 drive I was using before.
The only downside to buying this drive it that even as a retail kit it doesn't come with any instructions. There's no piece of paper or instruction manual giving master/slave jumper settings nor are they listed on the drive. Instead you get a slip of paper telling you to have the drive professionally installed.
They also don't include a jumper on the drive or in the box unlike with their retail 3.5 drive kits. If you need a jumper you will have to go out and buy one and they can be hard to find. Luckily I didn't need one. I searched Western Digital's web site and managed to find the jumper settings for the drive but they should have been included in the box
Other than the jumper problem I'm pretty happy with the drive. We'll see if this happiness continues as I used the drive longer

TopStrengths: Fast & quiet ... what more do you want?
Weakness: Guess it couldn't hurt to cost even less.
I was always suspicious about the performance of my Seagate 80gig 8mb that came with my Inspiron 6000. It always seemed to cause much lag on my computer especially when the hourglass would pop up for 20 seconds everytime I went to save a file. After many hours of research, and consideration for purchasing a 7200rpm, I went with this drive. The WD had one of if not the best price per gig when I bought it. Since then I have installed a package version of XP Pro and put the Seagate in an external USB enclosure. The Seagate still acts laggy but the WD is just a pleasure as my C drive. OMG, stop reading these reviews and just order it already since you'll love it too!

This is a great hard drive. Super quiet, works great in the Apple TV. I honestly don't have any complaints about it. Nothing else really to say other than it's quiet and works as expected.

TopStrengths: The drive is a fast drive thanks for its 5400RPM.
Weakness: The drive makes clicking noise once in awhile.
The HDD scares me a bit because it sounds like the hard disk is about to crash its header.
The seller is prompt, the package came in fast.
Thank you.

TopStrengths: Very quiet, speedy, less power use.
Weakness: High price compared to regular sized hard drives.
I bought this 120 gb Western Digital Scorpio 2.5 inch hard drive upon the recommendation of a local computer repair shop to replace the failing drive in my laptop. The repair shop did the installation of the drive and transferred the files from the old drive to the new one. My old drive had only 40 gb so this is a big step up in capacity for me. I do quite a bit of work with Photoshop and now I can keep a lot more files on the laptop. The laptop also seems faster with the new drive. I guess that's due to the new drive being 5400 rpm instead of 4200 rpm like the old drive. Other than the speed increase, there is a definite increase in battery life and decrease in noise.

TopStrengths: Works great, plenty of storage.
Weakness: None so far.
Bought it to use as back up hard drive. At first I used it as an internal, than using an external convertor, used it as an external hard drive when the computer I was using it on started to die. Managed to back up almost everything, this hard drive saved my day.

I use this HDD as an external drive in a small enclosure. There were no problems for my OS (Windows 2000) to recognize the drive. The drive is very quiet and runs cool. I'll use it for data backup.

Got it with an external enclosure as my data backup. Very easy to install and the laptop recognized it right away. Works great. With a brand name of WD and 3-year warranty, it's a great buy!

Western Digital's Scorpio 120GB drive is a great upgrade. The current hard drive in my notebook is starting to fail so I've decided to upgrade to a larger sized drive. I chose Western Digital because their products have been consistently good in the past. The 120GB Scorpio is no exception. It's fairly large for a notebook drive and provides excellent performance for the price. The only thing I wish is that it was 7200 rpm but I don't believe Western Digital has 7200 rpm notebook drives out yet. It doesn't really concern me for the price though, especially since notebooks aren't usually designed for serious work loads. I rate the 120GB Scorpio drive a 4.5 out of 5.

TopStrengths: Reasonable price, fast, very quiet and spacious
Weakness: Warranty is a bit short
I bought this to replace a 40GB Hitachi in my IBM T41 laptop. I replaced it with this 120GB WD without a problem. Jumping from 40 to 120 made a huge differences. I noticed that this WD is more quiet than my old Hitachi. On the other side, although it has 8MB of buffer, I noticed no significant improvement in term of speed. I suggest going for 7200rpm drive if speed is your concern.

Western Digital Scorpio WD1200VE 120GB 5400 RPM 8MB...
Strengths: quiet and fast
Weakness: none
Please note that this Scorpio WD1200VE spins at 5400 RPM instead of 7200 RPM.
This is the replacement of my old 40GB 4200 RPM Hitachi Travelstar hard drive. The installation of this drive is very simple and easy on my HP ZT3000 notebook. The WD hard drive has a plenty of space and runs faster compared to my old drive. It also runs cool and quiet.
