Utilizing a high-speed SATA interface, the 150GB WD Raptor X is engineered with a large, crystal-clear lens on the drive to let you see into its inner workings and witness it in action. The lens also providesrovides clarity, structural integrity, electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, durability and chemical neutrality necessary for the highest performance and reliability. Couple that with the drive's Native Command Queuing (NCQ) for increased data transfers in high-performance multi-processor, multi-threaded environments and Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF ) for optimized operation and performance in vibration-prone multi-drive systems, you have a drive that will perform when you need it the most. minimize

5 Star Review Raptor 150X

Strengths:

Speed, reliability, warranty

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Feb 25, 2007 - This drive is fast, fast, fast. I have a 74 GB model and the 150 16MB cache is a bit faster. If you have a windowed case the clear top is coooooool. The five year warranty make the price of Raptor drives a no brain-er. According to Tom's Hardware, "the most reliable drive out there." Essentially made for servers. BestBuy had a killer price on these, but a limited number.

5 Star Review Raptor X 150GB Hard drive

Strengths:

Very very fast - 10,000 RPM/Buffer Size 16 MB/Average Latency 2.99 ms. Good idea in having the clear glass. Manufacturer's 5 year Limited Warranty

Weaknesses:

You can't see through the clear glass because the hard drive is inside your computer (to work you would have to mount it outside. Noisy sometimes (because the clear glass).

Posted Feb 28, 2008 - I have 3 of them RAID 0. It gives me 5.9 on Vista index. Worth the money. However, you should buy the one without the clear glass (WD1500ADFD) because it is cheaper and doesn't create as much noise. My friend has the other without the clear glass and it is quieter.

5 Star Review Affordable Enterprise Performance

Strengths:

See thru design, FAST, FAST and did I say fast?

Weaknesses:

It get's hot, Somewhat expensive in terms of capacity compare to new drives today.

Posted Nov 26, 2007 - 1st time it came out it cost $300 plus. I got this from Best Buy for $150 bucks. So it works for me like $1/gig. Games loading time and windows XP boot-up/Power down significantly improved. I already purchased this when this model from the same manufacturer came out, "WD7500AAKS." If you look at the review between this two model on the internet, they are neck and neck and sometime WD7500AAKS even beat the RAPTOR, yet the price are the same (OEM)750gig capacity. If speed and performance is what you are looking for, you can't go wrong on RAPTOR!!!But if you are looking for capacity and performance at the same time check out WD7500AAKS...

4 Star Review Hard Drive Bliss

Strengths:

FAST! Fairly quiet.

Weaknesses:

Get's pretty hot. Very expensive.

Posted Oct 11, 2007 - This is one awesome hard disk. The clear cover is pretty neat, although it is not really visible once mounted inside a case. The drive mounted with no issues, just like any other drive really. This drive really performs, as it reads and writes at blazing speeds while staying relatively quiet. The high speed does generate a bit more heat than standard drives, but in a properly ventilated case, this is not an issue. A great hard disk I can strongly recommend.

4 Star Review a review of a 10,000RPM HDD

Strengths:

speed

Weaknesses:

noise

Posted Oct 4, 2007 - Since I used my pc very often and I have heard that the raptor HDD shortened startup time significantly, I bought a Raptor X 150G to try. The improvement of startup time is about 20% less than a regular HDD would cost, and windows installation time saved about 30%. The raptor is a little nosier than regular HDDs. But if you put it in a quiet qualify case, the noise is bearable. Overall, if you run a computer a lot, get a raptor is a good idea.

4 Star Review Fastest consumer retail harddrive

Strengths:

nice window, faster than most harddrives

Weaknesses:

uses SATA I(old) as opposed to the now faster SATA II(new), must make boot disk in order to install windows xp since it is SATA, very loud clicks(the same sound as a harddrive that's about to die)

Posted Sep 4, 2007 - This harddrive is fast, and has a showy window which comes at a price. This harddrive has a shorter life expectancy than the non-window version of 150 gb Raptor. There is also a warning note inside the box saying the window must have limited exposure to light. Also any pressure on the window may damage or shorten the life of the drive. So don't touch the window! For now, I'm not sure if it's my harddrive or motherboard, but it took 4 tries to install Windows XP. It would write really fast for a couple seconds then freeze and then it does the same thing again as if it was caching it. If you're on budget, this harddrive is a good deal for around $150. If you've got money to burn, buy the solid state flash drives if you need the speed and ruggedness. At the windows booting screen it is the same speed as my previous 7200rpm drives, but after log in, it boots like it just came out of hibernation.

5 Star Review Raptor X Drive

Strengths:

speed

Weaknesses:

more noise when accessing hard drive

Posted Aug 14, 2007 - this is one of the fastest hard drives I have used. Definitely worth the price if you are looking for the fastest loading times. I don't see the purpose of a see- through hard drive when they are for internal use.

5 Star Review Fast Boot Drive

Strengths:

Fast! Fast! Fast! Special SATA cable supplied is more secure. 5 year warranty.

Weaknesses:

Actuator Window not easily seen in computer case. Noisy.

Posted Jul 31, 2007 - Fast! Fast! Fast! If you are the type that craves performance this drive is for you. Special SATA cable supplied is more secure than a regular one. 5 year warranty. Actuator "bling" window not easily seen in the computer case. Noisy. It's price you pay for speed. I hear the regular version without the window is quieter. I have no experience with that version though. Raptor "X" version is gimmicky. Regular version without the window is probably the better deal but I got the "X" on a special deal.

5 Star Review Raptor X is smoking!

Strengths:

This thing is unbelievably fast. Windows loads faster, programs load faster, everything about it is quick.

Weaknesses:

A little noisy.

Posted Jul 31, 2007 - This drive is awesome! Windows loads faster than ever and programs load quicker than you could ever want them to. The clear case is pretty cool too. It doesn't get any hotter than my old drive. The best hard drive purchase that I have ever made. System: FX-62 4GB DDR2-800 Crucial Ballistix RAM This drive 200GB Seagate 7200 RPM as data storage Nvidia 7300GT 256MB video Samsung 18X DVD Burner Lite-On 16X DVD Rom I would highly recommend it if you can get at a good price!

5 Star Review Fast, Smooth, and Reliable

Strengths:

Significant performance increase over my old hard drive.

Weaknesses:

A little more noise due to the clear cover.

Posted Jun 26, 2007 - Drive installed without a hitch. Fast, runs great. Everything runs, loads faster. Worth the money spent. Great looking drive with fast read/write times. No problems so far and I am going to purchase another one soon after upgrading my processor.

3 Star Review Fast but Loud....

Strengths:

Fast. Unbelievably fast.

Weaknesses:

Loud. Unbelievably loud.

Posted Apr 28, 2007 - People who say this drive is quiet must be reviewing the non-X version, without the clear cover. Either that, or they have it packed away in some serious sound-dampening material. Having owned both, I can tell that the Raptor X is an order of magnitude louder. Mounting the drive on rubber grommets does little to nothing to silence the noise, especially the seeks. I'm assuming it has something to do with the clear cover. The regular version is barely audible in my case, and only marginally slower. If you're going for pure speed, fine, get this, but I don't think the noise is worth the tradeoff over the regular Raptor.

5 Star Review 10k rpm desktop user

Strengths:

fast, relatively quiet

Weaknesses:

only 150gb, but performance makes up for storage

Posted Mar 10, 2007 - This drive is significantly faster than 7200rpm drives, even the seagate perpendicular recording drives. The raptor is also not loud, especially when properly installed and the case is closed. I'm very happy with it.
