This 500GB Barracuda 7200.10 Ultra ATA/100 internal hard drive provides a speedy 11ms average access time at a 7200 rpm spindle speed. Its 100MB/s transfer rate via its IDE interface will knock your socks off. Its Perpendicular Recording increases data density while decreasing moving parts for a more dependable drive. Great replacement for 80 Gb imac drive

Strengths:

Fits in same footprint as smaller drives

Weaknesses:

a bit noisy

Posted Dec 10, 2007 - I put this in to replace an 80 Gb imac 17" G4 drive. If you know these machines, they are very tight inside and little room for even an 1/8th of an inch larger drive. This drive was basically identical to the 80 Gb drive in footprint. It's the newer version of the same Barracuda drive that was in the imac originally.

Seagate HD

Strengths:

Warranty, Ease of Installation

Weaknesses:

None

Posted 1 year ago - The Seagate Hard Drive was easy to install, XP found it as soon as the computer booted. Seagate has the longest warranty of the current companies. This is the third hard drive I have replaced with a Seagate in hopes that the drive will last longer than the warranty.

My first 500GB Hard Drive

Strengths:

Easily configurable with enclosures available in market

Weaknesses:

Noise

Seagate troubles

Posted Dec 10, 2007 - Mine failed after 1 year. No support available. I would expect hard drive engineering and quality to be fairly mature these days. Seagate should be ashamed of themselves. Good luck.
