Strengths:Good price for good storage space, good speed
Weaknesses:Drive vibrates a bit more than a slower laptop drive, likely diminishes battery life a bit
Posted 1 year ago - Given that this is a 5400RPM drive, it is definitely a faster drive than the 60GB Seagate drive (likely 4200RPM) originally installed in my MacBook. It vibrates a bit more, but gives me better speed and better capacity. It's still is pretty quiet though.
In the retail box which I purchased this drive, there were no instructions except for a piece of paper that recommended professional installation. For some laptops that don't make HD replacement easy, that might be the case. But if your manufacturer makes instructions for installing a SATA drive in a laptop, you'll be in good shape. There's no slave/master issues with a SATA drive that you'd face with an IDE drive...
Popping the mounting bracket from the MacBook was simple and then I simply formatted it for HFS+ and installed a fresh Leopard copy. No bad sectors or anything else that Mac OS has detected yet, so things are looking good. Nevertheless, it's a hard drive, so who knows what might happen...
