Strengths:

Reliable, quite, and very easy to use.

Weaknesses:

Doesn't automatically power down.

Posted Jan 30, 2005 - I've had the hard drive for 3 months and it is really reliable, quite, and easy to install. The Norton Ghost software that the drive comes with is really easy to use and will make restoring my parents PC much easier and less time consuming on my part. If you're using the Hard drive all the time the fact it doesn't shut off when you power down is kind of annoying. Overall if I had to pick a hard drive again this would be the one.

Strengths:

Quiet, Fast, Durable, And Looks Good- Turns on automatically when computer boots

Weaknesses:

Doesn't turn itself off automatically at computer shutdown.

Posted Aug 1, 2004 - This seems to be another high quality product typical of Iomega! It was easy set up and it auto-configures with WinXP.It's quiet and very fast. It has little inset rubber legs so it sits well on top of a floor PC. And it looks sleek with a blue power light that matches my Sony. The only thing that's a pain is that it doesn't turn off automaticallly at shutdown. But maybe Iomega will come out with a driver for it that does that.

Strengths:

compact attractive design, plenty of space

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Dec 6, 2004 - I bought this external hard drive to free up some space on my main disk. I have been taking many digital photos that were starting to bog down my computer. I have transferred all of the old photos to the Iomega and I download the new ones directly there. No problems. Easy to set up and easier to use.

4 Star Review Iomega 160 GB Ext HDD

Strengths:

Compact design, Ease of use

Weaknesses:

Price, No auto powerdown

Posted Aug 14, 2005 - This is a high quality external drive that is easy to install and use. It's a bit pricey compared to other drives like WD. The design looks sleek and the unit is compact. Operation is quiet. You'd probably want to disable auto-back-up when modifying a file that is pre-set for auto-backup; otherwise, it would slow down your work. I would also prefer having automatic powerdown with my computer.

4 Star ReviewFrankly, there just isn't all that much difference ...

Strengths:

Easy to install (no drivers needed), large storage capacity, reasonably fast, quiet, stylish.

Weaknesses:

No firewire interface (would be even faster than USB 2.0), 1 yr warranty.

Posted Jun 30, 2005 - Frankly, there just isn't all that much difference between one external hard drive and another. The biggest improvement *any* manufacturer could make is providing BOTH USB 2.0 and firewire support, since firewire is typically 30-50% faster than USB 2.0. IOW, the interface is the biggest bottleneck w/ ALL these USB 2.0 based external hard drives. It would also be nice to see the warranty extended to 3 yrs, esp. when you consider that I could construct my own DIY unit by simply buying a separate external enclosure (w/ firewire too) and retail hard drive with 3 yr warranty for about the same price (w/ careful shopping, rebates, etc.). But to be fair, when compared to its competitors, this Iomega external hard drive certainly is a quality unit and is among the best in its class. I just hope the internal hard drive gives me at least 3 yrs service (time will tell).

Strengths:

Easy to use

Weaknesses:

Doesn't automatically power down

Posted May 30, 2005 - Quick and easy to setup. Using the included Norton Ghost software to backup the PC to this drive is a breeze and works flawlessly. The drive is quiet but does not power down automatically so it is always making a small amount of noise. Would buy again.

Strengths:

High capacity, easy to use

Weaknesses:

Power cord is humongous

Posted Apr 22, 2005 - This hard drive is high-capacity and was easy to set up and use; however, it comes with cables that are a pain to arrange on my desk. Other than that minor issue, I would recommend this product.
