The 320GB FreeAgent Pro USB 2.0/eSATA Data Mover Drive comes with software that lets you access your content from anywhere, share it with anyone, and sync it to almost anything. A very smart hard drive, the FreeAgent Pro automatically revises your content, helping keep you safe from mistakes. Plus, should something happen to your PC, you can roll back system settings to a better time. And you can't ask for better drive performance thanks to dual USB 2.0 and eSATA connectors, a 7200 RPM spindle speed and a 5 year warranty. minimize

4 Star Review slick ext hard drive

Strengths:

design, glow, esata, fast, 5yrs warrantie

Weaknesses:

require fw upgrade to function properly

Posted Nov 21, 2007 - this unit's esata interface will not function properly unless the firmware is upgraded. regardless of what seagate tech says, this device with no firmware upgrade will not work even if it's attached to an esata card. after the fw upgrade, this ext drive is great. the drive is also warm, not hot, to touch. I really enjoy using this drive and it is now connecting to and working with onboard nForce 430 SATA controller which seagate support said shouldn't work. recommend to those who upgrade the firmware

5 Star Review Great Little Hard Drive

Strengths:

Good backup storage, quiet, looks awesome

Weaknesses:

none so far

Posted Oct 24, 2007 - I bought this drive yesterday and had it up and running within 5 minutes and 3 of those were opening the package and taking it out of the box. The other two minutes were clicking on a few menus and setting up my backup options. I find the autobackup software very easy to use. I now have an extra copy of my entire hard drive in case of hardware failure. It is also good to put shared documents, music, pictures, etc. I would highly recommend.

5 Star Review Amazingly fast, simple, and easy to use.

Strengths:

Great value for money. ESATA gives very fast transfer speeds. Freeagent software for backing up your computer is preinstalled onto the drive. No drivers need. Preformatted to the NTFS file system.

Weaknesses:

Box is misleading in the fact that it did not include the ESATA cable, only a USB connection cable. Plan on spending $10 to $15 for an ESATA cable.

Posted Sep 30, 2007 - This is a very great hard drive. The value for the money I spent could not have been any better. I wish the box would have been clearer though about what actually came inside. I was not very happy to have to buy an ESATA cable. The transfer rate for this drive using the ESATA is amazing. I also use it to grab files from my TIVO Series 3 which has an ESATA port. This drive is a great value and very versatile.

2 Star Review WOW I Thought

Strengths:

The idea of esata on a single drive with a 5 year drive

Weaknesses:

esata reads but no write

Posted Aug 31, 2007 - I was really hoping to be able to copy my movies over to this drive and put them on the network. The esata only reads and will not write. The usb 2 is what I refer to as painfully slow 15 MBs. When (if) on a esata 75MBs these are real world times. Time copy my 704 movies (461.26 GB) was about 8 hours. The Usb is slower than the apple tv over my network by 2MBs. Using but not happy!!!!!

5 Star Review Great Drive

Strengths:

Very reliable. Good backup software. Slick design.

Weaknesses:

Needs other options for positioning. Really only good for standing because of bottom stand.

Posted 1 year ago - Have had many Seagate drives and they are very reliable. Great price for great product. The design and light/glow are nice looking (although I liked the old silver and black with blue light better). The back-up software is nice and is useful for backing up many different drives to many different locations.

5 Star Review A great drive, good bang for the buck.

Strengths:

Sound built quality. Cute design. Five year warranty.

Weaknesses:

To be found.

Posted Jan 26, 2008 - This is a very good drive for the price. I purchased a maxtor 500GB initially but none of my computers could recognize it and the Maxtor CSR told me it was probably a bad box so had to return it back to Staples. This Seagate unit comes with 5-year warranty instead of 1 year for the Maxtor, an indicator of the confidence in product reliability.

Posted Dec 28, 2007 - This is a very nice 320GB drive with multiple connectors (eSATA & USB) on it and operates very quietly and stays cool to touch. it does not come with a eSATA bracket though. its backed by the famous Seagate 5-yr warranty and can be used anywhere thanks to its quiet operation. highly recommended.

4 Star Review very reliable external hd

Strengths:

relatively fast, need a good esata card,

Weaknesses:

can not configure in esata mode

Posted Dec 24, 2007 - I have used several externals before, but mostly with my internal hd and 3rd party enclosure. Seagate external speed is slightly faster on usb 2.0 and its esata is almost twice as fast as its usb speed. it's also reliable. i have it connected via sata for weeks and rebooting my pc without disconnecting doesn't cause any problem. unfortunately, the drive can only be configure via usb. almost a 5 stars.

3 Star Review awkward external drive

Strengths:

active cooling ext esata hd, seagate warranty

Weaknesses:

not easily removable shell, shell removed void warranty, portable-unfriendly design, non working standby mode

Posted Dec 17, 2007 - this hard drive works very well and does what it suppose to do. while it's good for external use, you can not easily transport the unit. maybe seagate should have include a carrying case for this unique, but peculiar design. this somewhat defeat one major purpose of having an external harddrive. Now if seagate was smart enough to have a built in powersave mode that will keep the setting after the pc is rebooted the unportable external harddrive will be more practical kept attached to the pc. I guess we can't have it both way, so seagate will only get 3 stars for 5yrs warranty.

4 Star Review FreAgent Pro 320GB External Hard Drive

Strengths:

USB/eSATA, Quiet, 5 years warrant

Weaknesses:

Not Big Storage. Not include eSATA cable

Posted Dec 9, 2007 - I got it at the Clearance Price from Bestbuy and it’s very cheap. It is very easy to use. Good backup software. Runs quiet, and it has a touch power button, so you can turn it off when not using. It does not include the eSATA Cabe, and my computer doesn’t have eSATA now, it’s not a big issue for me. Furthermore, it has 5 years warrant.

5 Star Review great drive

Strengths:

e sata strong body five-year warranty

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Nov 7, 2007 - It is definitely the best external hard drive I have ever owned. It has a strong case and lightening fast interface. Was very easy to use. Just plug and play. Seagate warranty is the best in industry and that is an added bonus.

5 Star Review Great External Drive

Strengths:

Esata is very fast. 5 year warranty. Slick Design

Weaknesses:

Wish it's 500GB or more

Posted Oct 20, 2007 - I really like the design of the FreeAgent Pro series. It much better looking than all the other external hard drives. The esata is at least 3 times as fast as USB 2.0 in my tests. The drive stays at room temperature even after a couple of hours of use.

4 Star Review great external hard drive

Strengths:

nice design, easy to use, formatted for nfts out of the box

Weaknesses:

the stand gets very hot

Posted Oct 11, 2007 - this external hard drive works well. it has a nice design with a touch power button. i use usb 2.0 and the speed is fine for my needs. the only thing is the stand gets really hot, really quickly. i read online that it was purposely designed this way...all the heat is drawn to the stand so the hard drive keeps cool even without a fan. i just hope my desk doesn't get damaged from the hot stand in the long run.

5 Star Review great hdd

Strengths:

form factor. esata

Weaknesses:

price

Posted Oct 10, 2007 - a great looking and preforming hard drive that carries a 5 year warranty that cant be beat. Seagate is a great company and this product is yet another example of the strong product line they offer. Highly recomend it and have no buyers remorse about this drive whatsoever.

4 Star Review Happy so far

Strengths:

Very easy to set up. 5 years manufacture warranty. Design looks good on desk.

Weaknesses:

The base makes carrying the unit a challenge job.

Posted Sep 30, 2007 - I have transferred all my movies to the drive the first day I set it up. Already ~300gb has been taken. Should consider a larger drive next time as my movie library build up. Anyway, the unit is great, very quiet during the transfer. I actually prefer USB link though it may take longer time than SATA interface. The design is good, looks great on the desk.
