Good drive
seems quick, quiet

Posted Apr 5, 2008 - I got this drive to replace a 80GB 7200.7 that went bad, so I didn't need lots of space, just a cheap, fast drive. It came down to this drive and the Western Digital Caviar SE16, which were compared in their 320GB versions at www.anandtech.com/show... . They basically declared a tie between the two, with the edge to Seagate for its warranty. Since the most HD-intense work I'll be doing on this machine is some video editing, I opted for the Seagate, which seems to have the edge in sustained transfer rate (e.g. reading/writing large video files). The drive is working great so far and the 5-year warranty provides insurance for as long as I'll need the drive. (The authorized retailers through which the warranty is valid are listed at www.seagate.com/ww/v/i...)
