Strengths:

Can set SCSI ID with jumpers on either back or front of drive. Extensive documentation on Seagate's website. Status LED on front of drive

Weaknesses:

Do not have onboard internal terminator circuits so you can't use it as the last device on your SCSI cable.

Posted Feb 13, 2006 - 3 of these drives came with my Dell PowerEdge 1600SC server. Never had any problems with them and never really messed with them until I decided to upgrade the storage in my RAID 5 array. So I bought 2 more factory-refurbed drives from PC Progress. Never worked with SCSI drives before but thanks to the extensive documentation on Seagate's website I was able to add one of them to my RAID 5 array. Would have been able to add the other one if these drives had onboard internal terminator circuits or if the SCSI cable that Dell put in my server had more connections. Didn't notice high-pitched noise until other review wrote about it. Doesn't bother me, but I guess the noise is there if you listen. The noise from reads/writes are louder anyway. Don't know yet how reliable the factory-refurbed drives are, but the ones that came with my server have been running fine almost 24/7 for 4 years now.

High frequency noise.

Posted Feb 13, 2004 - This hard drive is pretty fast and low noise. However, drive I got began making high frequency noise, probably about 1800Hz~2000Hz, just after about 5 hours of use. It was very annoying, but good enough for server inviroment.
