1 Star Review Save your time and money

Strengths:

Good paperweight for a Breezy desk

Weaknesses:

Just likes to stop working after 30-60 hours of use if that long

Posted Apr 16, 2008 - Had two of these. Both failed in a matter of a few days use. I basically spent several hours installing software on these hard drives and configuring them. Both failed with less than 60 hours use. They are sending a replacement again but I'm afraid to use it anymore. I used to like Seagate but I can barely get the device setup let alone create a backup in case it crashes. I read a bunch of bad reviews before buying Seagate and thought they wer full of it because my 1.2GB Seagate drive lasted like 8-10 years. Next time I will listen to the reviewers. Got a replacement about 6 months ago. Installed everything and used it very little (maybe 20-30 hours total) and on April 15 I tried to power it on and once again the device was not working. This computer was completely unplugged for about three months. Literally both drives were brand new. If you enjoy losing data, reinstalling operating systems and applications, and conversing with techies from other countries on the phone then this device is for you.

Strengths:

Fast access times, nice 8MB cache.

Weaknesses:

Noise!

Posted Feb 27, 2004 - Though reasonably priced this drive is EXTREMLY loud! You can hear the read/write head grinding away at the bits of data. This drive is so unusually loud that I returned my first drive thinking it was bad! I have bought and used Seagate Products for many years, however I cannot and will not recommend this product for purchase!

Strengths:

Fast with the speed of SATA, great 8Mb cache, quiet.

Weaknesses:

As with everything in my opinion the price can always come down....

Posted Nov 7, 2003 - I've got two of these drives with a total of 160GBs of storage. I've always used IBM(Hitatchi), Western Digital, and Maxtor drives in the past. The performance of these Seagates may change my future purchases to all Seagate prducts....

Strengths:

Fast, quiet, easiest install ever.

Weaknesses:

None so far.

Posted Nov 4, 2004 - I have always used, Maxtor, and other drives. In the last couple of years I have changed to Seagate. Boy, these puppies are awesome. I never had a problem with Maxtor drives. But the speed and quietness of these Seagate drives, you can't go wrong. Some people have problems installing XP on SATA. None here, easiest and fastest install ever. I just built my budget/performer system and it rocks. AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1 Gig PC3200 Seagate SATA Drive nVidia GeForce FX 5700 Ultra Gigabyte K8NS Pro MOBO Nothing really fancy. But it runs applications superfast and it plays games (Far Cry, Serious Sam, Unreal) impressively. The drive has made a big difference in total system performance.

Strengths:

Native SATA interface

Weaknesses:

Failed within first 30 days

Posted Apr 6, 2004 - Built 3 workstations for a customer and had one of the drives fail within 2 weeks of being delivered. I have (2) 160 G in a raid configuration in a server for the same customer that I’m watching closely. I am seeing one of the drives “growing” bad sectors so will be having to RMA that drive as well. Wish I had better news to report. These were OEM drives that I received from my distributor and maybe they had been mishandled. I will try them again, but if I get a repeat in performance I will drop them from my line. Wish I had better news to report.
