Sennheiser HDR85 SAVED MY MARRAIGE

Strengths:

WOW! EVERYTHING. These headphones are amazing. I am actually listening to them right now - 10 years later at 2AM after a week away for business. They are truly noise cancelling and the sound qualit

Weaknesses:

Distance - it goes from office to pool (1000 ft or so) but nor much past. THIS IS A FAKE WEAKNESS - these are great, buy them.

Strengths:

volume is limited, sufficient for my uses but some might want more.

Posted Aug 20, 2007 - I've used the Bose phones, and there's no way their price justifies what might be a marginal difference in sound quality detectable only by a dog. When on an airplane (as I often am), I usually look over at the guy wearing the Bose and think, "poor sap. He got taken. Should I tell him about the Sennheisers? Nah." Feels like being the guy flying on a free upgrade and knowing the dope next to me paid $200 more for his ticket! I have also bought these as gifts for friends.

Very Happy with Headphones

Strengths:

Compact design, excellent sound quality, comfortable to wear, nice case fits snuggly into my laptop bag.

Weaknesses:

Battery pack can be a bit awkward

Posted Aug 19, 2006 - Absolute necessity on long flights. I use these typically to watch DVDs in flight. Sometimes use them for music. I am never dissappointed. Previously had a Sony headset. This is much better and the price is decent too.

Sennheiser Closed Active Noise Cancellation Headphones PXC300 Good buy

Strengths:

Design, Compact and portable - the design allows it to fold and collapse to be compact enough to fit in a small carry case (included) Sound quality - cancels out the humming noise of machines

Weaknesses:

Price - always have to write about this (paid $138 for item) Headphone lines - gets tangle up easily

Posted Mar 18, 2006 - For those who never used noise cancellation headphones, please do not expect any product to totally cancel out sound. If you expect this, then you will be disappointed. There will be a slight humming sound when you use it but it is not 'noise'. You can still hear conversation quite clearly. For example, you do not need to shout in the gym or in the airplane due to background noise. It cancels the background noise out but keeps the sounds in because they are of different frequencies. I bought this because I read when I use the cardio machines in the gym and it can be quite loud with all the machines going. I also used it on a 16 hour plane ride from New York City to Taiwan. I was able to sleep in it. The headphones cup your ears hard enough not to slip off but gentle enough so you won't get a headache. I was able to hear the stewardess when she came around asking for meal or drink selection. The battery life is rather long. You will hear some hiccups when the battery is running low but you can still use it even when this happens. I have not replaced my batteries yet and I've used it for over 50 hours. (I should soon...) The only complaint is that the lines get easily tangled so I use those wire tires to make it shorter. The device that turns on the noise cancelling feature is a little bulky but I'd rather not be included in the headset or the headset will be really bulky (don't look good at the gym). When you purchase it, it comes in a box with a hard cover carry case, airplane and stereo jack adapters, and 2 AAA batteries. Good purchase...I use it everytime I fly and evertime I am in the gym.

Sennheiser Closed active Noise Cancellation Headphones PXC300

Strengths:

Small, comfortable on ears, fully enclose ears, great sound, blocks noise, price.

Weaknesses:

Posted Dec 6, 2005 - These headphones are great! I originally purchased them for travel to reduce airline noise but I also use them at the gym to reduce noise from the treadmills around me. These headphones are very comfortable to wear and completely surround the ear, which is extremely important in reducing the noise. I chose these over the Bose because of the size of the headphone. I compared the quality of the sound to the Bose and did not hear any difference. The price is very reasonable for what you get.

You can't go wrong with Sennheiser

Strengths:

foldable design, decent noise reduction, price

Weaknesses:

sound quality, not close-ear design, faux leather padding

Posted Nov 24, 2005 - After owning Sennheiser PX 100 for 2 years, I decided to upgrade to PXC 300. Just like PX 100, PXC 300 is foldable which is an important feature for travelers. It's comfort to wear, even more comfortable than PX 100. The noise cancelling is on the same par as the headphone I receive when flying business class. When I use this at home, I can't hear the fans of my computer (it has 5 fans). The price is very competitive, less than BOSE QC2. A few drawbacks are first, the sound quality. It doesn't sound as good as my old PX 100. Second, it's not a close-ear design. So some noise still sneaks in. Third, the faked leather padding. It's very easy to wear and tear.

Much better than the PXC250 Sennheiser you hit a Grand slam with the new NC

Strengths:

Great noise reduction the PCX250 has a noticable hiss when NR is switched on the PCX300 it is allmost non existant

Weaknesses:

External battery pack

Posted Nov 11, 2005 - After a recent flight that I borrowed a friends Bose QCIIs I have been shopping for a good pair of NC headphones that are in the same league as the Bose. Today I got a chance to do a side by side comparison of the PXC250s and the PXC300s. The new circuit in the PXC300 is well worth the little extra money. While both of them perform well the PXC250 has a much more noticeable hiss that can be heard when the NC is switched on with no music. The PXC300 while it has some hiss you have to listen hard to hear it. I also found with my MP3 player I was able to get more volume out of both the Sennheiser sets compared the the Bose. While the Bose set does give a bit more isolation as it covers the entire ear I find that I prefer the Sennheiser PXC300 slightly over the Bose if they were the same price. With the PXC300s selling for much less than the QC2s I think Bose will be loosing market share.

Senheisser v Bose

Strengths:

Better sound quality than Bose,easier to transport,lighter cheaper than Bose...save your money

Weaknesses:

Cant think of any having owned both Bose and the 300s

Overall, very good noise reduction with solid sound performance

Strengths:

Good performance when powered, good noise reduction, fold into a realtively compact shape, good protective case

Weaknesses:

Weak performance when not powered, clumsy battery pack

Posted Oct 24, 2005 - I come from many sets of other brand's NR head phones. These seem to be better built than the units I have used to date, and are relatively light on the head due to the battery pack being seperate (although the others head sets I used were not over heavy, by any means). The battery pack can get in the way though, but is not a terribly huge minus if you are careful. The PXC 300s also do not pressure the ears as much as some, and not being big, shell style units, are easier to deal with when sleeping or when folded. To be honest, performance when un-powered is rather poor, but I have good ear-buds for the times when I don't need noise cancelling, so this is not a big issue for me.

Noise Reduction

Strengths:

Foldable design, small, and light. Good noise reduction.

Weaknesses:

Ear discomfort is a big issue after wearing them on a long flight.

Posted Oct 24, 2005 - These are great in terms of sound reduction, with my Ipod plugged in I can't hear anyone else on the plane snoring. But after a while of wearing them my ears were really sore. I would go for something that surrounds the ear versus these, the pressure is too much.

Sennheiser PX300

Strengths:

Good noice blocking on plane. Good sound seperation and strong bass sound when unit is powered.

Weaknesses:

When unit is no6t turned on teh sound is week and you hear a "white noise" in the backround that goes away when powered. Cord could be longer with a clumsy battery pack.

Posted Aug 25, 2005 - I've used the unit several times on planes and am very satisfied with the performance. Movies and other audio sounds are strong with good sound seperation in stereo sounds. Generaly these are good phones. I compared the quality with headphones costing less and there is not a significant difference in the "noise reduction" however the sound quality is much better and the size is more convenient for travel.

Strengths:

clean sound, reduces low frequency noise, compact foldable design, nice carrying case.

Weaknesses:

cumbersome battery pack, much less mid or high range noise reduction. Some noticeable ear discomfort after long use.

Posted Jun 4, 2005 - I received these yesterday and have been playing around with them only for a day or so. This is the first pair of noise reduction earphones i have purchased. I have read good things about Sennheiser, especially the noise reduction headphones so my expectations were rather high. First thing out of the box, one notices the compact folding design of the headphones. Very nice. It comes with a carrying case, and two jack adapters. Headphone materials do not feel flimsy. When i put them on, the headphones adjust to a snug fit with the padded earphones on my ears. After a few hours of use, they tended to cause discomfort due to the constant pressure on the sides. I think this may be due to my not adjusting the headphones properly. Music played very well through these, I'm no audiophile but to my ears these headphones sounded very good. With the advanced noiseguard turned on, i immediately noticed a reduction in the low range background noise. Midrange and high range reduction is significantly less. I could hear my (old) refrigerator compressor noise output changed but my computer fan noise only slightly altered. Three side effects i also noticed with the noise reduction turned on was that there was some sound pressure (feels a bit like when an airline is descending). I read on some other forums that this was likely due to the earphone cancellation output. The second effect is that there was a slight increase in high range noise - like a white noise hiss. Neither of these bothered me but were noticeable. The third is that when playing music, the noise reduction appeared to slightly amplify the music. In summary, this is a good pair of headphones. The headset appears to deliver on reducing noise with or without any music input. I was a bit disappointed at the mid/high range noise reduction, but look forwards to trying these out on the airplane.
