Strengths:Clarity, freedom, mute button, volume knob.
Weaknesses:Doesn't fit the head as well as the wired Plantronics headsets.
Posted May 21, 2005 - I have been tethered to a four foot Plantronics headset cord for 7 years now. The quality was always excellent but the cord was always twisting, getting snagged, yanking my neck, etc. I spend 5 hours a day on conference calls on average and spend half of that time on 'mute'. So, when I saw this, I had to try it. Sent a request to my Boss with the proper ergonomic safety buzz words and voila!
This headset has dramatically changed my work environment. I can move about. I can spin in my chair. I can go get files off the printer. I can go fax stuff if I ever wanted to. I could (shhhh!) go to the bathroom on one of those reallllly long conference calls (you can throw the milk jug away!). I could step outside and see the sky. The only down side is that walking around the office, people you pass always want to tell you something. They don't realize that you're on a mission critical conference call. So, I've learned that if you hold your finger to the headset and nod as if you're receiving instructions.. people will leave you alone.
Reception is great for almost all the way across our office. When you start going too far, you get a warning tone. If you ignore the warning tone and keep on walking, its about another 30ft before the headset goes from perfectly clear to -nothing-. Thats ok though.. when you return to the 'in-range' area, the audio automagically reappears. When on mute (which I am 50% of the time), you get a very, very, very faint beep to remind you you're on mute about every 10sec (its not an annoying beep whatsoever). When going ON MUTE, you hear a high pitched faint beep and when you go OFF MUTE, you hear a low pitched faint beep. Because the mute reminder beep is so faint, I often forget if I'm on or off of mute so I tend to cycle the mute button until I hear the OFF MUTE tone. The headset phone lasts all day as they claim. I highly recommend the robotic handset lifty-thingy. Otherwise, you'll be able to hear your phone ring remotely and be able to do nothing about it.
The only down side is that the headset does not fit as comfortably as the wired one does. They give you two over the head style headset holders and three (varying sizes) ear loops. The over the head headsets don't hold the mic in the write place. They tend to want to place the mic so that it touches your skin right before the corner of your mouth. You have to pull it away from your cheek every so often. The large ear loop works but doesn't hold the headset in position very well. My colleague across from me bought one too and the ear loop actually makes the headset swing on his ear. My only concern now is.. if many in the office get these.. will there be a chance for interference?
