5 Star ReviewVery nice punch from the high current of this unit ...

Strengths:

Very nice current and high watts per channel. Many options which really work.

Weaknesses:

Can't think of any right now.

Posted Dec 3, 2004 - Very nice punch from the high current of this unit. The remote does it all and more. The price for all you get is great, and the sound you receive from this unit is well worth more that the cost. I've listened to many other AV Receivers above and below the price of this peice and nothing really can touch it. This is a great buy and value. Your going to be looking for all formats of recordings just to try out all the RXV1500 functions. Well I'm off to have a little more fun learning more about it.

Strengths:

Slick simple design, highly configurable, easy to use, great setup tools, tons of inputs and outputs, good power.

Weaknesses:

Sound quality a little weak

Posted Dec 15, 2004 - Overall, I'm extremely pleased with my Yamaha receiver, the setup was easy with all of the inputs and outputs and the YPAO setup. YPAO worked fantastically, I was very pleased with the results it came up with in a matter of seconds. The sound quality is a little less refined than some others, but it more than makes up for it with good power and THX support. The slick design with the hidden front buttons and inputs makes for an aesthetically pleasing device which is tough to find in this price range. For the money, I think it is very tough to beat. I would highly recommended the Yamaha RX-V1500 for anyone looking for a receiver for home theater or pure audio configurations.

Strengths:

YPAO with optimizer microphone, THX programming, highly configurable, 8 digital inputs, good power 120x7

Weaknesses:

remote control

Posted Mar 19, 2005 - Overall, the RX-V1500 is great choice for home theater or music. The YPAO will have you set up optimally in any room in a matter of minutes. The digital inputs are assignable so it’s more compatible with different equipment (optical/ coaxial). The power is very good, but I was hoping for just a little bit more. I was originally considering the RX-V2500 but could not justify the extra $100 or more for 10 extra watts per channel and the minimally different extra options. My biggest complaint about the RX-V1500 is the remote, which is fully functional but lacking the backlit buttons on the RX-V2500 remote control.

Strengths:

A seemingly infinite number of surround modes, great remote, solid build quality, user friendly

Weaknesses:

Remote doesn't light up

Posted Feb 12, 2005 - I spent several weeks researching every brand of receiver imaginable. After doing so I narrowed my choice to the Pioneer VSX1014 and the Yamaha. I chose the Yamaha because it had the A & B speaker buttons and speaker inputs which the Pioneer did not. Once I got the system hooked up and took a listen I knew I made the right choice. The sound is absolutely outstanding.Of course this may have alot to do with my speakers , however, I used the same speakers with my previous 7yr old JVC receiver and they didn't sound nearly as crisp or good. I even walked into a Sound Advice and they wanted $850 for this receiver so at $500 plus shipping it's a bargain. You will not be disappointed with this Yamaha.

5 Star ReviewVery pleased so far. I can't stop messing with it ...

Strengths:

Read the manual and the operation is pretty straight forward. Very flexible

Weaknesses:

zone / 2 when operated with the amp will cut out rear channels in main room. use the pre out for zone 2 and an external amp to control zone 2. works great.

Posted Nov 26, 2004 - Very pleased so far. I can't stop messing with it. Just like any new toy or piece of equipment. Sounds great. Pretty easy to set up. Takes some patience to go step by step. Make notes as you go along. The remote is sweet.

Strengths:

The best surround sound I have ever experienced, ease of use and to program with onscreen. Many features and multiple component hookups to list. Movies are almost the same as in Theaters.

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Jan 24, 2005 - This Yamaha RX-V1500 receiver is the first experience with a Yamaha product and the best receiver I have ever had. There are hookups for as many components as I would ever need. It is very easy to program and use via the on-screen steps. The quality of video and surround sound is superb. It is really as if I were at the movies. I know for sure I got a great deal if not the best receiver. I will now purchase Yamaha products, such as a subwoofer, with complete confidence of the best quality sound.

Strengths:

Sounds beautiful! Accurate surround modes.

Weaknesses:

A little tough to get to know, slightly complicated.

Posted Apr 2, 2005 - I bought the Yamaha 1500 with the Klipsch Synergy series speakers and it has turned out to be a great pairing. The system has very good clarity and the automatic (YMAO) speaker setup is pretty good for quick setup of your surround sound. For a mid line stereohome theater option I highly recommend the Yamaha 1500.

Strengths:

Weaknesses:

Posted Mar 19, 2005 - I upgraded from a technics to the 1500. It's like having a whole new system I hear sounds in my cd's I've never heard before. The 7.1 stereo mode fills the room with music and the sound separation while watching movies is like being in a theater. I prefer the design of the RXV over the HTR series.

5 Star Review Great Receiver

Strengths:

Good clean power, endless features, YAPO, Great price.

Weaknesses:

Like everyone says, the remote isn't beautiful, but it works pretty nice, and can learn from your other remotes which is nice.

Posted Sep 20, 2005 - Where to start. This receiver has very nice power output without sounding strained. However, I have my system in a very large room with a JBL E250 powered sub and it could almost use just a bit more power. I may add an external amp for my stereo speakers (Infinity Beta 50's). But, it certainly sounds good now and shakes the house so it's probably just throwing money away. There are tons of settings to learn, but that's half the fun of a new toy. You can also just let the YAPO AutoSetup and not learn anything. For the price you can find on pricegrabber, you can't go wrong with this receiver.

4 Star Review yamaha rx-v 1500

Strengths:

killer remote, workes on every thing(once you get the hang of it) the control you have of each speaker's every sound, along with it's zones, will keep you looking over your sholder.

Weaknesses:

unit gets way to hot, and likes to trip the protect mode when you draw to many amps. but that only happens at a loud volume! i also had to add extra fans to cool it.

Posted Sep 24, 2006 - i had to up-grade my wall outlet to a 30amp plug-in socket, then i had to up-grade that breaker from a 15amp to a 30amp. now i can get alot more base out of it befor it trips the protect mode. but it does vary well at a high volume with the 32 speakers i have hooked to it. also it hooks up to your pc vary easy. so with the right sound card it rocks!!!!

Strengths:

Great sound, lot of flexibility, and THX certified

Weaknesses:

Remote control not easy to learn. Setup takes a while.

Posted Oct 8, 2005 - It's worth the money. The power and sound quality is way better than I expected. Many great features, so it takes time to setup and learn the remote control. One just need to be patient. Great unit to enjoy.

5 Star Review RX-V1500 HTR review

Strengths:

very powerful

Weaknesses:

quite complex to set up

Posted Sep 6, 2005 - It took me a quite some times to set up. YPAO does good job but if speakers are not in places(traditional set up) , then distance calibration may not be correct but it can be overwritten. Very crisp sound quality
