How is the video upscaling?

Discussion of Onkyo TX-SR605 Receiver

Posted Jun 15, 2007 - All the reviews talk about the audio being superb, but I think the biggest feature is the dcdi upscaling to 480p. One reviewer even said there is upscaling to 720p under a hidden menu. I watch many sporting events and could really use a better picture for my non-HD analog feed. Anyone able to comment on the upscaling and if it works for sporting events like basketball/football?

Question on HDMI Pass-Through

Discussion of Sony STR-DG1000 Receiver

Posted May 21, 2007 - I purchased and returned the STR-DG800 because the HDMI pass-through would not allow the receiver the keep the audio from the HDMI cable. I am wondering if this issue is resolved with the STR-DG1000. In other words I want to connect 2 HDMI devices to the receiver and have them pass through to my HDTV while still allowing the audio from the HDMI cables to output from the receiver. Thanks

Onkyo and TXH Select2

Discussion of Onkyo TXSR804/B Receiver - Black

Posted Nov 15, 2006 - I've been researching the internet for about 3 weeks for a new receiver, currently own Onkyo TX-DS787(about 5 years, no problems), need one for another room with an overhead projector. It came down to Onkyo or Pioneer receiver, the Pioneer receivers 1016TXV, 80TXV, 81TXV, AND 82TXV all have TXH Select2, but Onkyo doesn't have it in the 604, or 674, you have to go to the 804(list $1000) to get TXH Select2, they should have put it in the lower models, if pioneer can do it why can't Onkyo, the Pioneer Elite VSX-80TXV (list $650, PriceGrabber $438), it appears Onkyo dropped the ball on TXH Select2. When the price gets down to $700, I'll buy, that's 30% discount. The Pioneer receiver I put on par with the Onkyo 804 is the 82TXV($1200), it has the Faroudja video scaler, PriceGrabber price can be found for $$775 (35.42% discount), so I'm still deciding. Anybody else having the same dilemma

Motorola DCT-3412 compatibility

Discussion of Denon AVR-2807 Receiver

Posted Nov 13, 2006 - Has anyone lately tried to use the HDMI switching feature of the Denon AVR-2807 with a Comcast Motorola DCT-3412? I have read threads where there is an incompatibility and Motorola told me yesterday that there is a firmware fix out for that. I'm just curious whether that fix made its way through the Comcast process yet. I want to buy an AVR-2807 but not until that DCT-3412 problem is fixed.

Receiver getting HOT when it is not in use how to resolve the issue?

Discussion of Onkyo TX-NR901 Receiver

Posted Sep 27, 2006 - Hi, i own onkyo tx-nr901 and impressed with performance. for the past few months i barely use the receiver, BUT even when it is noit used it gets REALLY HOT. There is no "OFF" button, and i use standard standby to turn off. I have receiver inside tv rack and it has plenty of air circulating around it, so closed space should be ruled out. Is this normal? if not what can i do to resolve this heating issue? Thanks!!

HDMI/HDCP Passthrough Using Comcast (Motorola DCT3412)

Discussion of Denon AVR-4306 Receiver - Black

Posted Sep 11, 2006 - Anyone have experience with the topic setup? Does Comcast provide the correct HDCP/HDMI compliance for the receiver to pass it to the monitor out? I've heard horror stories about having to go direct to the TV from the cable box to avoid "Copy Protection" errors from the box. I don't want to be plagued by having to switch two inputs when changing sources. Thanks in advance.

Universal Remote Control

Discussion of Insignia Solutions IS-HC040917 Receiver

Posted Aug 15, 2006 - I have not found a universal remote control that will operate the reciever. I would be happy to find a code that at least would let you turn it up and down. I have called Insignia tech support and they have no help. I will not buy this brand again.
