MPN: DAVFC7
Strengths: Great sound; easy hookup with color coded wires; easy to manipulate all functions.
Weakness: Instructional diagrams for setup were not clear.
For the price, this is a wonderful system. It is as good as our more expensive system. It is powerful for a small system. It is modern-looking, which matches my room's decor. The surround sound is perfect in this room. The progressive dvd function enhances the system.

Topwait until it freezes on you and stops working. There is a major flaw in that system. Let me know when that happens so we can get some $$ from sony for repairs.
Sony System does freeze up. It appears to be a software issue related to certain disks. After playing certain DVDs, the problem appears. If I unplug the unit long enough to flush any memory it might have, everything works normally again. I now avod playing the troublesome DVDs.
Strengths: nice sound, as advertised. colour coded speaker wires. has component video jacks.
Weakness: some annoying assembly required. sparse instruction manual. Remote could have larger buttons.
This is a very nice system and I am happy with it so far. Don't believe what others write aboute it NOT playing DVD+R's. It has played everyone I have tried! I don't think you will be disappointed if you buy this system.

TopStrengths: Looks good & SONY name
Weakness: not reliable
I have had the same exact problems with this product as mentioned Previously. Unfortunately when it first occurred shortly after purchase, I blew it off thinking it was just the DVD. When I finally realized it was the player, it was not covered under warranty!
If anyone else has trouble with DVD/CD being stuck inside, I found a way to get them out without taking the unit apart: Unplug the unit. Plug it back in. Press power, and quickly press the eject button for the corresponding player you want to eject. You may have to try this a couple time, but at least you get your DVD/CD back!

TopStrengths: It's attractive packaging hides a defect-riddled machine.
Weakness: The product stopped functioning after less than 1 year of minimal use.
I'm extremely disappointed in the quality of this DAV-FC7. After less than one year of very minimal use - I played less than 12 DVD's on it the whole time I owned it (and purchased it new). The machine will not release from Standby Mode unless I manually unplug it from the wall. Also, the DVD controls on the unit do not function any more, and the machine will not let me eject the discs that I currently have inside of it.

TopStrengths: Nice rounded design
Weakness: The nice aesthetic appearance of the unit does not address the fact that this unit has a DVD problem (jamming, not playing, and "Standby" constantly flashing).
I contacted sony in regards to this problem, and mentioned that other people had simmilar issues with the unit (like satelliteguy0520 and rus3439). Sony replied that they don't address any issues listed on websites other than Sony, and that they are not aware of any issues with this unit.
Blah, Blah, Blah.... The point is that more than 3 people have had this same exact problem of DVDs being stuck and not playing, but SONY does not want to admit to it.
I am not willing to dish out another couple of hundred of dollars for a DVD player that does not play HD DVD nor BlueRay discs! Sony Shame on you!

TopStrengths: cheap price + "good" name
Weakness: freezes after a few months of use
system sucks big time! Stopped working after several months of very occasional usage (5-10 times). System freezes and does not respond. Had to pay $115 to fix it. They said it's gonna cost btw $140-$180 to fix. Whats up with japanese products lately? Maybe "made in US" is the problem. They suck.

I'm starting to dobt the Sony name. First DVD player died of smoke inhalation, With the DAV I get the same STANDBY reading. Vey annoying.
Forget about playing a CD then ejecting another one well the one is playing. No can do.
I'm phonimg Sony, for what it's worth.
Sony Home Theater System with 5-Disc DVD Player -...
Strengths: Very attractive and stylish. Clean compact look and good sound.
Weakness: Short lifespan.
Please please please seek out reviews from users who have had this unit for more than a year before you purchase it. Mine started to freeze, needing to be turned off and back on, about 2 months ago. I was leaving on business and did not have time to deal with it. Now, 2 discs are stuck in it and will not come out, the DVD portion will not function at all, and if I power it off it will freeze up, displaying "standby" and will do nothing until I unplug it and plug it back in. I contacted Sony, who after great persistence on my part finally agreed to cover half of the 144.00 repair bill. Whoop tee doo. I will also have to ship the unit to California. They say this is a simple out of warranty issue because they know of no chronic service issues with this machine. They say the abundance of complaints about this exact issue easily found on the internet represent an insignificant number of buyers. If you have this unit please contact Sony so they may recognize that they do have a problem. Thanks for your time.

I had the same exact problem after using it for a about a year. I got it fixed at magnolia hi-fi for $115. So far it's working fine, but sony products are history for me. As well as Canon cameras. Stay away!

It has been so long ago I don't remember how I found the contact number or who I talked to. I do remember I had to work them over good just to get that concession. On a side note, I was going to junk the unit out, but not with my discs in it. I figured out how to take the cover off, plugged the unit in, and gently pushed one of the discs towards the exit. The disc came out, and bingo! The unit was fixed! I'm sure glad they offered to fix it for 144.00! I sold it on eBay and bought a Pioneer receiver with infinity speakers and a stand-alone toshiba DVDR and I couldn't be happier. I sincerely this helps somebody.

I have to concur completely. Mine started having DVD issues (freezing, not ejecting discs, not playing discs) only a few months after I got it. I only used original DVDs of major movies (no copies or p0rn). I almost never got my Jackie Chan Shanghai Knights out of the dang thing. It's gotten so bad, I'm afraid to play DVDs in it any longer, and am now searching for a new system. If I had to make an educated guess, I'd say it started acting up after about only ~15 DVDs were played (in a few months) and currently I've only played about ~25 on it, and after nearly losing 6 DVDs, and having issues playing 8, I don't want to risk any more.
