Great For Small Theater Rooms
Strengths:Stylish appearance, sound quality, minimal wires and other ugly room intrusions required to enjoy surround effect.
Weaknesses:Limited customization of audio-video input assignments
Posted 1 year ago - I just finished setting up my YSP04000. As nearly everyone else mentioned, the automatic configuration is a breeze and fun to observe. The automatic results are very suitable for a small room. I don't have the subwoofer yet, but by setting the "Tru Bass" to "Deep", I could almost do without it (almost).
My main complaint so far is what others have commented on, which is the limited ability to customize your audio and video inputs. For example it defaults to DVD using an HDMI connection, or component video with coax digital audio. I wanted to use optical instead of coax. The only way I could find to do this was to swap my cable box onto the DVD input, and put the DVD onto the Cable (STB) input. This is fine, except now I have to push the remote's "DVD" button to get Cable, and the "STB" button to get DVD. My wife is going to kill me. Which leads to the next complaint...
The "universal" remote functions of the YSP-4000's remote are not adequate, and my other so-called universal remote from the cable company will not operate the YSP-4000. Since we must now juggle 4 remotes, I will be looking into some sort of universal remote to run the system.
All considered, a good value for the price, and an interesting conversation piece.
