5 Star Review Big Bang for Small Bucks

Strengths:

Remote Control - AUX Input - Bluetooth available for $50 or less - USB Port - HD Radio -

Weaknesses:

No mid range control

Posted Nov 28, 2007 - The features that the Dual XHD6425 offers is simply amazing. What other $150 head unit gives you built-in HD Radio, USB port, AUX input, remote control and the ability to add Bluetooth for $50? The XHD6425 is in a class of it's own. I have owned Aiwa, Alpine, Pioneer and Kenwood CD receivers in the past and the Dual is as nice as any of those. I had originally planned to buy a Kenwood but ran across the Dual on a message board. After researching the Dual, I found that it had all of the features that I wanted and some that I hadn't even considered (HD Radio & Bluetooth). I've only had the XHD6425 for two weeks but I'm very impressed with it. Here are the features that make this head unit great: 1) Remote control - I find it a necessity and a great safety feature 2) AUX input on the front - I hook up my XM Roady2 3) USB port - I don't have an iPod or MP3 player so I really wanted this feature 4) Bluetooth - Another great safety feature. You can't beat it for $50 5) The look of the unit has really grown on me. I didn't know how I'd like the blue lighting but it looks great. 6) HD Radio - Unfortunately I only have access to one HD station but it's amazing how much clearer it is than analog. Hearing really is believing. I look forward to driving through an area with AM HD so I can see how that compares. Wish list (I knew about these before I bought it though): 1) Mid range adjustment - I've had it on other head units and it's nice to have but not a necessity 2) Ability to change the lighting color - I've also had that on other head units and it's a cool feature. It doesn't seem like many companies are offering that any more though. I was hesitant to buy a Dual head unit at first because I didn't know much about them. After researching the unit and talking to a Crutchfield rep, I was sold. I figured that if Crutchfield was selling it, it was a quality product. I was right. I would recommend this head unit to anyone.

4 Star Review Great unit!

Strengths:

Easy install, lots of features, cheap!

Weaknesses:

get what you paid for

Posted 1 year ago - Got this unit from Crutchfield, together with installation harness. Installed without any trouble. Unit works wonderfully well. With HD, MP3, USB, AUX, you can't go wrong with it. Don't expect it as good as a high end unit.

3 Star Review A good unit for the price!

Strengths:

Good sound quality, easy to use, easy to see display even in the daytime.

Weaknesses:

Volume control is somewhat touchy, tuner sensitivity, a few other little quirks!

Posted 1 year ago - Overall, this is a good unit, with very clear and crisp highs, even with my old speakers! It does have a few quirks however, for instance, sometimes when switching from, say FM1 to FM2 or FM3, the station which had been selected before, will not come in and if you want to hear it, you must press another preset, then press the one that was originally selected. Another thing is if you are listening to a cd, then shut it off to go into work or home, whatever, then when you come back out, the cd will take a long time to restart. The tuner seems to have trouble pulling in stations, both AM and FM that are a bit weak. My old cheap unit did a much better job at pulling in weaker stations. The USB port is a very nice addition, as it makes it easy to change the mix I listen to! None of the quirks are deal breakers, just annoying.

4 Star Review I like HD radio

Strengths:

Clear reception, remote, well built

Weaknesses:

Confusing controls to learn

Posted 1 year ago - This is a very good performer. I really like HD radio. I'm not a fan of satellite radio. I had it for a while but I could not get over having to pay for it. I'm a creature of habit I like free radio. HD is extra radio stations for free. The Dual unit pulls in those extra channels in crystal clear. I purchased my unit from Crutchfield and recommend them as well. The remote is a nice feature comes in handy for the backseat DJ's. This radio is built well and comes with clear installation instructions.

4 Star Review XHD6425

Strengths:

Removable face plate is a great security feature, and the remote is helpful. Also lighting is good at night.

Weaknesses:

Control knobs, and buttons are small, and some are to close together. HD dose fade in and out due to signal.

Posted 1 year ago - All in all the unit is good. The installation was easy,( with the right mounting plate, and wire connectors, sold separately.) The sound is great if you have the right speakers of course. I would recommend this unite to anyone who is looking for good sound at an affordable price.

3 Star Review Nice, with some faults

Strengths:

Built in HD Radio, low price, Auxiliary in, USB port.

Weaknesses:

display, navigation

Posted 1 year ago - This is a nice radio for the money. I was surprised at everything that was included in it for the price. Other brands were offering less functionality for twice the price. Power wise, it isn't the best, but it works great if you are just replacing a factory radio for the ability to receive HD radio. The Aux. input is great if you have an mp3 player. I love the USB input. I keep my mp3's on a USB stick and I'm good to go. Problems that I've had with the unit are minor. The display could use some work. It is only a single line display and it won't automatically scroll through the available information. You have to keep pushing the display button to see details like, time, station, title, artist, etc. I've also had a problem with getting engine feedback through the speakers. This could be my own fault with the installation. I need to take another look at it. Occasionally the display goes funky and will either display nothing at all or every possible light will come on. A light tap usually takes care of that. Overall, this is a good buy. I am sorry that I didn't buy the Bluetooth adapater at the same time that I got the unit. It would be neat to see how that works.

3 Star Review XHD6425 In Dash CD/MP3 Player (MP3/WMA Support)

Strengths:

Easy Install, Remote, Cheap Bluetooth Addon

Weaknesses:

small keys

Posted 1 year ago - Hard to beat with so many featuers for such a good price, especially with rebate. Sound better than original OEM stereo my 2004 Subaru has. It's a bit annoy it can't rememeber the current track position when switching modes. Bluetooth works well with my Tilt phone, even support BT AV.

4 Star Review Good Radio - Could be Better

Strengths:

Front mp3 player input, HD Radio is significantly better than FM, Displays Artist/Song Title, More stations

Weaknesses:

HD Radio signal is not available everywhere

Posted 1 year ago - The XHD6425 is a great radio if you have good HD Radio reception. The audio quality is much better when listening to a station in HD mode than in regular FM mode (especially for music). However, while driving around I have seen the HD signal weaken and the station reverting back to FM. Another advantage of HD (if you have the signal) is that more radio stations are available. The problems with HD reception may be due to my antenna not being good enough and not the radio itself.

5 Star Review Dual XHD6425, excellent value, good features

Strengths:

HD Radio, AUX input, remote, faceplate case, usb port, dual RCA out, plays mp3 & wma

Weaknesses:

Onboard amp sounds a little thin, small buttons, volume knob is too small

Posted 1 year ago - One of the better valued HD Radio capable head units. The Dual XHD6425 packs lots of features for much less than other better known brands. The HD Radio feature truly sounds better than non "HD" stations. Only complaint so far is that the onboard power amp sounds a bit thin for their claimed wattage rating. The unit does come with 2 sets of RCA outputs to drive an external amp. Comes with remote control, a faceplate carrying case, AUX, USB in port, and back strap. Has optional bluetooth module for hands-free cellphone operation.

Strengths:

HD radio, good price. The AUX input and the USB port are great addition features

Weaknesses:

volume button size is small, but it comes with a remote

Posted 1 year ago - Great unit, good HD radio, I really like the aux input and usb port so that I can connect it to my ipod and also use the usb directly for mp3 files. Got the unit from Crutchfield with free installation harness and also free installation instruction.

5 Star Review Dual XHD6425

Strengths:

If you want HD radio, this unit is a steal. HD radio on AM sounds SO much better. The AUX input is fantastic, and the USB port is great

Weaknesses:

loudness seting creates too much bass at low levels. It would be nice to be able to set that.

Posted 1 year ago - I can tell you that this receiver is AWESOME! Great Unit. A lot of features for the low price.Bluetooth option might be of interest down the road.the USB input works great and is a great way to access my music collection in my car.Radio is far better than expected

4 Star Review Front aux jack/USB port/Bluetooth/IR remote in addition to HD Radio and MP3/WMA

Strengths:

A dizzying amount of features, cheapest Bluetooth add-on module in the market.

Weaknesses:

Wiring harness wires are a little thin and the wire coloring is darker than industry standard, especially the purple/purple+black wires. As a result, they are tough to distinguish from each other.

Posted 1 year ago - Installation into the dashboard cavity was a breeze even with the addition of the bluetooth module, the wiring for which was snaked underneath the dashboard and up along the A-pillar and onto the visor. The mounting cage doesn't have as many tabs as some of the other brands but four tabs were placed perfectly for my application. Within 30 minutes, I was able to stream MP3s from my Windows Mobile phone via bluetooth and also make phone calls. I am 13 miles outside Boston and there are dozens of HD stations nearby, the 18 station presets will surely come in handy. As always, read the manual! A plastic case for the faceplate is included which was a nice touch.

3 Star Review XHD6425

Strengths:

Lots of features for little cost

Weaknesses:

Controls and display could use some more thoiught

Posted 1 year ago - This unit is impossible to beat for the price but it does have some shortcomings. The HD and FM Radio tuner is excellent but the HD can't be switched off in fringe reception areas. Power output is kind of low but what's there is very clean. The display is hard to see in bright light and there's no dimmer lead. Go ahead and get one. Just don't pay more than a c-note and be prepared to add an amplifier.

5 Star Review Great radio reciever!

Strengths:

HD-Radio sounds great, seamless bluetooth music/calls, USB, AUX jack, remote control

Weaknesses:

Need to buy bluetooth separately, USB is a bit flaky

Posted 1 year ago - First off... sound quality is amazing. Best out of any radio I've used. HD-Radio is really something, like listening to a CD. I was surprised by how many HD-radio stations there were in my area (45 minutes from Seattle). Playing music over bluetooth sounds great, too. Controlling my phone's music works seamlessly, with a well-thought-out interface, plus there's the remote control. When you make a bluetooth call with this unit, you have to actually dial all 10 digits of the number (unless you use callback). You can't access your addressbook or activate your phone's autodial. This is an absolute pain if you're using the channel stations to type in a number (you couldn't do this safely while driving) and somewhat irritating when using the remote, but doable. I typically hit the voice dial button on my phone and then just connect as usual. At that point, it works great. USB support is a little picky. They claim it'll work with nested directories up to 7 levels deep, but you need to have music files in each level for it to work properly. In other words, you can't have a hierarchy such as "Music/Artist/Album/folder with songs" because music has no music in it, artist has no music in it, album has no music in it, etc. If you wanted this to work you'd need to put dummy MP3s in these folders. Once you get past the minor irritations in the USB and bluetooth calls, it works great. I barely use these as it is, so I have no day-to-day complaints. Audio quality is excellent, the feature base is amazing for the price, and you won't go wrong with this unit.

4 Star Review Dual XHD6425

Strengths:

Auxillary and USB inputs, Connectivity to Bluetooth, MP3/WMA compatibility, HD radio

Weaknesses:

No built-in Bluetooth, No separate output for subwoofer

Posted May 12, 2008 - This is one of the best audio receivers. It is a versatile audio player for automobiles with connectivity options for MP3 players, USB devices. Availability of HD radio at a very reasonable price is a plus. It can be used with bluetooth equipment but needs a separate unit. It would have been much better to have bluetooth connectivity built-in. There is no individual output for the subwoofers, which minimizes the entertainment experience.
