I replaced the sony cassette deck in my old Honda ...
Plays mp3 AND wma. Reads ID tags on most files.
Detachable face somewhat difficult to put back on.
Posted May 7, 2003 - I replaced the sony cassette deck in my old Honda Civic with this after the former was damaged in an attempted theft. Very easy installation as harness was interchangeable between the decks. So far I am very pleased with the performance - it really fits my needs. The main reason I chose this deck was that it was the cheapest I could find that played wma's, which make up a bit over half of my digital music library. The size tradeoffs with wma let me put 13+ hours of music on one CD-RW. Some of the nice features: adjustments done with a control wheel - I hate adjusting volume with buttons. Excellent sound from both mp3's (LAME encoder, 128-192 kbps) and wma (version 9, 96 kbps). More than enough power for my 5" and 4" speakers. Not in documentation, but machine can actually read wma title and artist tags (won't scroll them automatically though.) Radio reception is acceptable and I like that you can name the stations yourself. Drawbacks: As listed above, the face is kind of tricky to put back on. I have experienced some track skipping, but this seems related to driving over bumps and rough roads (my suspension is crap). Still, it skips less than the factory CD player in my wife's Camry. Wishes: Wish it could handle playlists. The only way to organize files without renaming them with leading numbers is to put them in folders, this will still put all of the songs from one artist next to each other though. Wish it could teach me how to salsa dance, too...
