As I stated above, the cartridge is intuitive to install. It is compact. It does not sprinkle toner. My hands are clean if I touch the cartridge which is not the case with some other cartridges.

TopStrengths: The printer was a bargain at $90 including tax. It has a nice small footprint too.
Weakness: Expensive toner refills (to make up for cheap printer price). Many stores don't carry Samsung toner refills, so it's harder to find cheaper toner prices.
Toner works fine as a refill, as it is from the manufacturer.
Comments on the Samsung ML-1710 printer itself: The printer prints fine when using paper from the main paper supply tray, but it often misfeeds and crinkles up paper that is fed in through the front. Text quality is crisp. Graphics are not as good, but I don't need the printer for that purpopse.

TopStrengths: Good Quality Ease of Installation
Weakness: None so far
Extremely easy to install and great quality by my standards (I usually only print text). The original toner that came with printer started to die almost immediately. The black seemed to flake off page, not the case with this toner. This one has much better quality out of the box! Nothing beats a laser printer for cost so I expect this toner to last awhile.

Quality OEM product. Using it in Samsung ML-1710 with good results. Good value for the money; no streaking, even coverage, easy installation, no mess. I'd recommend this item from any source with a competitive price.

Weakness: Waaaay too expensive and no knock-offs.
Samsung is the leader in cheap laser printers and costly toner. I'm on my third Samsung laser (the others I gave to my kids) and each time the toner is more expensive. They don't seem to last as long.

Weakness: Fear of number of prints based upon experience with starter cartridge.
Effective evaluation of a printer and toner cartridge can only take place a few months hence. Samsung should be ashamed of the toner cartridge they packaged the 1710 with -- not just because it's so pathetically empty that it's good for only a few hundred prints, but because of the massive use of plastics and other resources. It stopped printing heavy dark blacks after a couple hundred prints. The replacement cartridge needs to have a few thousand pages in it to make this inexpensive and otherwise great printer worth the price paid. At this point, I am an anxious agnostic. The new cartridge at $60+ needs to prove it's price per page worth.

Weakness: Failed after 1 week
The advertisements suggested this product was new when I purchased it. However, it was remanufactured. I could have overlooked that, but after only one week of use the unit started dumping toner down the side of every page I printed. I was very dissatisfied with the purchase, definitely not worth the $20 savings over the price of a new toner cartridge.

for the number of pages it will print, it is expensive, but i dont have much of a choice since this printer will only accept certain kinds of cartridges. i still cant tell if the drum is overheating quickly and prventing large amounts of printing or if it is the printer itself.

TopStrengths: Even print tones. Fully compatable with Samsung ML-1710 laser printer.
Weakness: The original toner that came with the Samsung ML-1710 only prints about 250 pages. This makes the relatively low price much higher.
I purchased the Samsung ML-1710 printer about a month ago. The printer is very fast and the print quality very good. I am very satisfied with the printer. I was hoping to get more than 250 pages with the "starter" toner but didn't quite make it. Now my $130 printer really costs about $200.

TopStrengths: Good print quality.
Weakness: The orignial toner doesn't last long.
The product itself is not bad, but the toner is. I actually bought the printer for ~100$, which is not expensive. But the toner ran out very quickly (after 300 printouts), and it took quite long for me to buy a new toner. I hope the manufacturer takes care of the original toner even if it raises the cost.

TopStrengths: Long lasting, high quality toner. The refill kits do not work well. Go with the company that makes the printer.
Weakness: After a few thousand printouts, it is necessary to shake the toner to have it running at 100% again.
I would always recommend going with the manufacturer toner. While the kits work, they do not work well, and do not have the same print quality.

TopStrengths: A good printer for those who prints one a while. Printer Toner is not as expensive as other brand.
I was looking for an economy level printer and select this one compared to HP Lasertjet as I got more rebate from Circuit City pick-up from the store.
Better get this one compared to those inkjet printers.

TopStrengths: The Samsung toner cartridge uses very little ink. I do a lot of printing and find the toner can last a long time.

My last lasar printer is a HP and I remember constantly buying expensive toner cartridges for the printer. Now with my Samsung ml-1710 printer, one cartridge can last me much longer than before. I originally had my doubts with the Samsung brand, but I find it to be of excellent value. I am very satified with the product.

TopStrengths: Cost - low. Footprint - small. Speed - quick.
Weakness: Limited to letter sized paper. Klunky printing software from Samsung. Printer comes with a puny starter cartridge and the new cartridges cost as much as the printer.
I've had this printer for over a year. I've been expcetionally pleased, having run about 2000 pages through it in that time. The quality of the print is good in the normal mode. On the toner save mode, it's kind of foggy. I've seen better toner saving modes.
For text, this printer does a bang up job. It's about 3.5 cents per page to print, putting it *much* lower than inkjets. The primary advantage for the laser is the ability to use cheap paper and still get good results.
It's a worthwhile purchase.

TopStrengths: There really are no particular strengths other than knowing that I bought a legitimate Samsung laser jet cartridge for my Samsung laser jet printer.

Unfortunately, buying printer cartridges is one of those necessary evils of still living in a non-paperless world. My experience has been favorable so far since the first page I printed came out all right, though, I probably need to use the self-cleaning procedure as I did see some stray toner on the page. As for the company I bought it from, everything was perfect. The product arrived exactly when it was supposed to. It has been sitting around for almost two weeks as I didn't have time to replace the old cartridge with the new one.

I don't know how many pages this toner will last, but the starter toner from Samsung didn't last long, much less than the claimed 1000 pages. The installation was very clean. Nothing got on my hands. The printed pages looked great for the resolution supported by the 1710. I have not tried non-OEM toners so I can't say if they work as well. If non-OEM toners are substantially less expensive, you still have to worry both about print quality and how long the toner will last. So I decided to go with the OEM toner.

It's easy to install. I would be more happier if there was cheapper re-manufactured tonre for my printer.
It's my second toner, but, I think it's ok for the printing capacity of 4000 pages.

Samsung makes excellent laser printers. The quality is exemplary and it prints pages quite quickly. The price was also great. A laser printer for $70. Now all I need is a color laser printer at that price. One can only dream.

Used up the orginal Samsung print cartridge that shipped with the ML-1740 printer (rated at 1000 page print capacity for normal printing which it exceeded by 150-200 pages). Purchased this replacement. Install was done in less than a minute. Back to flawless printing. Based on performance of orginal Samsung cartridge I expect this one to easily meet it's rating of printing 3000 pages.

Weakness: toner save doesn't work that well
The Samsung-1710 is a powerful, low-cost printer. Although I am, in general, happy with the ML1710 toner cartridge, I don't believe that it meets the product specs of actually printing 3,000 pages. After a while, the toner gets too light and I have to turn off toner-save. Nevertheless, I'd go with Samsung if I had to buy another printer.

Samsung Black Toner Cartridge
Strengths: Ease of use, Quality of printer/toner, price vs. usage
Weakness: availability
This personal laser printer is exceptional. It is easy to set-up, connect and use. In addition, the toner cartridge is a good value. I have been using under moderate conditions and it has lasted several months. It was easy to install. It also creates good quality black and white text prints. The only drawback to this item is it's availability in stores. However, it is fairly easy to find online so this is not a big problem.
