Posted Feb 27, 2008 - Surprisingly Nice For the price, I expected something a little less of a HOTAS. But all-in-all, I'm really pleased with the product. After fussing with the joystick's adjustable handgrip for a few minutes, I found a reasonably comfortable position that fits my hand. The throttle is well designed and comfortable to use (though I have to shift my grip to use the mouse scroll-wheel, at least you don't have to scroll the mouse very often in a dogfight, heh). The joystick feels nice and moves smoothly as well. As others have commented, it doesn't require the gorilla hands needed to really use the Thrustmaster (a well-done F16 replica; a shame the jet needs gorilla hands). And it's certainly a lot cheaper. For the casual flight or space simmer, it's a great deal; also, for marginally older games, the HOTAS registers itself as a single USB joystick, not two devices, making in-game configuration pretty easy.

Best joystick I have ever used and set my eyes on!

Strengths:

Ease of use and setup, comfortable, adjustable, and slick design. Also used USB which is a plus for me being that X64 doesn't seem to work with the old gameports.

Weaknesses:

Mouse control doesn't work well for me.

Posted Jun 26, 2006 - This beautiful work of art created, by the genius minds of Saitek, is the best joystick I have ever used. It is certainly an upgrade from my old $5 joystick that I used to use. I love the light up blue buttons and LCD screen. I would highly recommend this joystick to any serious gamer who enjoys flying or even if you are just starting out.

Posted Nov 24, 2007 - Love this system!! Sold my Logitech Freedom 2.4 and replaced it with these. Wow, what a difference!! Installed quickly in Windows Vista Home Premium. Fully configurable and many, many options! Works great with Microsoft Flight Sim 2004. Please read the instructions, it makes using them much easier!! Try to configure as much as possible away from your keyboard and onto the controls; helps keep your eyes on the screen rather than on multiple controls. Hope the joystick doesn't break, it doesn't feel quite strong enough to endure the abuse it is about to go through. Sincerely, -mpkramer

By far the best flight joystick I have used.

Strengths:

The multiple profiles and the ability to quickly change between them. Adjustable LEDs and display. Magnetic controllability makes for smooth control. Plenty of editable buttons.

Weaknesses:

Software to edit controller is a bit confusing. At this high a price wireless would be nice. Not enough downloadable or user uploaded profiles on Saitek website.

Posted Feb 21, 2008 - This is by far one of the best joysticks around, and the best that I have been privileged enough to use. If in the market for a joystick and throttle I highly recommend this one since it is about the best one that you can by for any "reasonable" amount of money. The magnetic controls make for very smooth transitions, and there are enough profiles and buttons on the joystick to do more than you could imagine. The joystick also makes switching between 3 profiles very efficient be it because of changing aircraft or the type of game. The controllability of the LCD and display brightness was also neat and handy. There are a few drawbacks though that the joystick does have, most of them are things that at this price Saitek really should try to add on and will most likely be available in future models. The first is to make the controller wireless. I found that this would make it easier to store and also less clutter on the desk during game play. The second is to make the profiler software more user friendly. Right now it will get the job done, but it is hard to use. The third improvement would be to have an area on the website that has Saitek made profiles for aircraft and games and also gives users the ability to upload and download profiles other users have made. Overall, I highly recommended this joystick and throttle. Even with the drawbacks I have mentioned you will be more than satisfied with your purchase.
