5 Star Review Logitech MX Desktop w/Bluetooth

Strengths:

great strength at a distance. volume job button, left hand scroll on keyboard. big media function buttons on keyboard. easy scroll on mouse; rechargable mouse base acts as Bluetooth hub.

Weaknesses:

forward/back button on mouse doesn't work for Firefox; the initial start up pairing misses the mouse (and only does keyboard)... thus having to manually pair. good price for a bluetooth desktop.

Posted Oct 15, 2005 - **I like to wait awhile after using a product to see how well it works before rating. i've been using this product for some time and was about to give it a bad rating until i realized that the particuarl item that i bought was defective. the excellent customer service at Logitech (which I cannot even begin to describe) quickly solved the problem and would recommend them everytime** i love the wireless capabilities that doesn't interfere with any other signals. the flashing light on the mouse tells you when the batteries are low, however there isn't any notice on the keyboard (although you can usually tell when it's low) the keyboard is all that i need. it has multifunction keys including a scroll button, "back" and "go" buttons for navigating. the software gives good status updates on your equipment, but at start up, it doesn't automaticallly pair up the mouse, which can get annoying.

Strengths:

Wireless, and come with bluetooth hub

Weaknesses:

Pairing problem at the beginning. Have some problem with mouse's function.

Posted May 31, 2005 - I like this item because it comes with a bluetooth hub. I can easily setup the connection with my Treo smartphone and am able to sync it via bluetooth. MX900 is almost the same mouse that I had (MX700); however, the battery life seems to be shorter than MX700. Nevertheless, the some function was not working on non-microsoft applications (i.e. Mozilla). The Forward and Back function of the mouse won't work properly when it is set as default. I have to reassign some key to make it work smoothly! The function key on the keyboard are easy to use and setup if Logitech software are installed! I didn't have Mac or other bluetooth hub; therefore, I didn't have strange problem like others do (pre-installed bluetooth hub or Mac system) and I think it's great!

Weaknesses:

Strengths:

Good wireless solution Lots of programmability

Weaknesses:

Charge kinda weak Expensive

Posted Jun 20, 2004 - This is an excellent wireless solution - definitely the best keyboard mouse combo I found out there after doing a lot of research. It has not disappointed. The keyboard is much better than my previous one.. good response and lots of programmable keys. The mouse is nice - large and lots of buttons. It's main two buttons took a little while to get used to (they press further up than most mice) but its good. It doesn't take long to charge (which is a good thing).

5 Star ReviewI first purchased the wireless MX DUO Elite (MX700 ...

Strengths:

Works over 10ft away from hub, Many functions on keyboard, Fast & accurate mouse with several function buttons/rechargeable batteries, bluetooth hub to connect extra devices.

Weaknesses:

No rechargeable batteries for keyboard, mouse is very heavy, bluetooth takes up to 10 seconds to reconnect under Windows XP Pro at every boot, expensive, install can sometimes be difficult.

Posted Sep 14, 2004 - I first purchased the wireless MX DUO Elite (MX700 mouse/keyboard combo) for my home theatre PC setup. The set was awesome, but I quickly found out that the range on that RF setup was not far enough for my application. I needed to get quick responses at a range from 10ft - 12ft. As good as the DUO Elite was, the MX700 mouse would only work flawlessly at about 8ft and under, any farther and there was lag or spotty disconnect, though I should have realized that anyway, as the specs only point out 6ft I believe (duh). So I decided to try this bluetooth combo because it was supposed to have great range, and I have to say, it has exceeded all my expectations so far! For gaming the mouse/keyboard has worked perfectly, and as well as my MX DUO Elite with MX700 mouse, and at ranges over 10ft. Though, with all the extra buttons on the mouse, when action in a game gets frantic, I sometimes accidently hit one of them and triggered an unwanted function. But those buttons are great for surfing the web when used as forward and back buttons. The mouse is extremely heavy, but moves effortlessly, and the added weight makes it feel like it's as sturdy as a tank. Battery life seems to be shorter than with the MX700 mouse, but not too bad IMO. GOOD TIP: To save some battery life, it's recommended to operate the mouse on white/light surfaces ... the darker surfaces actually make the optical LED shine brighter, and therefore it drains battery more quickly! The keyboard is light, but still IMO, feels like quality built. The added multi-media functions and quick buttons (some programmable) are an added plus, especially for a home theatre PC. Would be nice if they made the keyboard with rechargeables too, but 4 Alkaline should last months anyway, so not really a big deal. I have not had any disconnect/glitch problems under XP, EXCEPT when the mouse batteries were getting low, then it started acting erratic. I have also not had problems with XP Pro not recognizing either keyboard or mouse after final startup, so I haven't needed to re-innitialize either the mouse or keyboard by hitting the reconnect buttons on the device and hub. Though it can take anywhere from 5 - 10 seconds at Windows startup before the mouse/keyboard work as the hub searches for devices to connect them, not really a problem as much as an inconvenience for the impatient! The keyboard works during POST (make sure F-Lock is in correct position), so you can enter the BIOS for changes, or hit the F8 key to bring up Windows extra boot options prior to the operating system start-up. Not sure why someone else said that the middle scroll wheel button on the mouse wasn't supported, as I have changed it to a "double-click" function instead of the default "quick scroll" with the software included, no problem at all. Highly recommended, a great wireless duo if you need to operate the keyboard & mouse more than 6ft - 8ft from your PC, otherwise the MX DUO Elite with MX700 mouse is a good and less expensive alternative!

Strengths:

Good signal strength at distance. I commonly use this product from distances of over 10 feet and I have had no problems what so ever.

Weaknesses:

The mouse sometimes does not detect at boot up. I have to use the connect buttons on both the mouse and the blue tooth hub and reboot inorder to get it to work.

Posted Apr 28, 2004 - This is a great alternative to regular wireless devices and if I can get the detection issue fixed at boot up then I would recommend this product as a great addition to a wireless environment.

Strengths:

Its MX Optical Engine delivers an impressive 800-dpi resolution and processes 4.7 megapixels a second, which translates to accurate control and high performance. Installation was better than easy.

Weaknesses:

A bit pricy but expected for its features.

Posted May 9, 2004 - The Logitech MX900 Bluetooth Optical Mouse outpowers most wireless mice on the market today. The keyboard looks awesome, especially with the stylish silver and gray-blue colors. The comfort of this keyboard lies in its zero degree tilt and removable palm rest. This keyboard is different from the previous Elite Keyboard because it has a blue-gray color and contains Bluetooth technology. The older version had excellent transmission rates and could work over five feet away. The new keyboard has the Bluetooth technology and is capable of working thirty feet away without a single lost transmission. A fast and comfortable keyboard, the best mouse in the world, and most of all Bluetooth!!

Strengths:

Easy to install and set up. Very comfortable keyboard and mouse. Bluetooth hub great for my PDA synchronization.

Weaknesses:

Loss of functionality of some keys on the new e-machines notebook computer I purchased this system to enhance. Support had no fixes to software conflict.

Posted Apr 18, 2004 - Until Logitech comes up with a software fix for compatibility with my notebook, I will be forced to uninstall the Logitech software and reinstall the e-machines notebook keyboard driver when I want to use the notebook as a stand alone(portable). Conflict arises with the special dual 'function' keys on the notebooks keyboard where I now must press the function key to obtain primary key funcionality. The Logitech keyboard works fine. The Logitech support solution to unnistall was less than satisfactory unless I want to return the unit which is otherwise a great product.

Strengths:

Easy setup, very responsive, and great features.

Weaknesses:

Some media buttons on keyboard and mouse not compatible with Mozilla Firefox.

Posted Jul 12, 2004 - Highly reccomend this product. Since it uses Bluetooth there is no worry of any lag, so it works perfect for gaming. Plus you can use the Bluetooth hub to connect any wireless accessories that support it, like a PDA. The setup was very simple, XP detected both the keyboard and mouse right off the bat, and installing the software lets you remap the keys, which gets me to my only gripe. The keyboard and mouse have certain browser-based buttons you can use to do things like go to your favorite shopping and search websites, but they only work for IE, not for Mozilla Firefox, which is my preferred browser. If not for this I would have given in 5 stars.

Strengths:

Good design, great bluetooth integration, easy to use, good software

Weaknesses:

cannot boot from device, software still needs work

Posted Dec 12, 2003 - Overall, this Bluetooth version of the popular Logitech mouse-keyboard "elite" series is excellent. It is very easy to use and set up. The only weaknesses are: (1) the reciever does not stay "on" while the computer is off - this has an effect such that you cannot boot or turn on the computer by pressing a keyboard key as some BIOSes allow. Also, (2) the software doesn't quite work as well as I woudl like. You cannot assign any function to the User "sleep" button on the keyboard (this button shuts down Windows when pressed), and some games have trouble integrating with the extra mouse buttons. Other than these small faults, this si a good product!
