4 Star Review Eyecatching keyboard that is easy on the eyes

Strengths:

- Illumination: It not only makes this keyboard look cool, it saves eye strain when computing late into the night. Feel - the keys on this keyboard are responsive. I seem to type faster.

Weaknesses:

Price - I wish it was less expensive. That way I could justify getting another one for my other system.

Posted Aug 22, 2005 - Overall, it's the best keyboard I've tried. And I'm sure that sooner or later I'll get another one since this keyboard seems like it will last a few years. Overtime, it's worth the extra cash. But it would be nice if it had a USB port or a scroll button like some of the newer keyboards have.

5 Star Review A cool-looking keyboard with great performance

Strengths:

Durability, touch/feel, layout, USB interface

Weaknesses:

Some illumination washout/glare from light-colored screens.

Posted Aug 7, 2005 - I LOVE this keyboard! Very much worth the price paid. This is truly the best keyboard I've ever owned. Durability - very well built & solid. Touch/Feel - typing on this keyboard just "feels" right, noise is minimal. Layout - full (not condensed) layout; it also has the backslash key in the "proper" place (just above Enter, rather than to the left of Backspace). Illumination - has a toggle button for illumination (high/low/off). No compatibility/driver issues experienced when using this keyboard on a machine running Gentoo Linux. BUY THIS KEYBOARD.

5 Star ReviewA very comfortable keyboard, with a great touch an ...

Strengths:

Great touch, illuminates as advertised. Great for late-night gaming.

Weaknesses:

An absolutely white screen in absolute dark reflects very heavily off of the silver keys, washing out the illumination somewhat.

Posted Jun 24, 2005 - A very comfortable keyboard, with a great touch and solid construction. The illumination is awesome in almost any lighting, but as above, white screens (webpages, Word) washout the lighting when you're in absolute dark. Playing a bit with positioning of the monitor and keyboard seems to fix this, however. It is great for those games where you need to find keys easily to access commands rarely used; even touch typists will benefit.

5 Star Review Saitek Eclipse

Strengths:

Great feel, Blue leds

Weaknesses:

Lit keys can be hard to see in bright light. Can be expensive.

Posted Aug 17, 2005 - This is a great keyboard. The keys have a great feel to them without being noisy or stiff. The blue led and pass through keys make using this keyboard in the dark very easy. The silver and black color goes great with my lcd and aluminum case. It can be a bit on the expensive side. This is my second Saitek keyboard and I am very happy with both purchases.

5 Star Review The most ROCKIN' keyboard to date!

Strengths:

Laser cut keys, blue LED lighting, silver keys, black casing, quiet click operations, ability to dim the lighting, low profile.

Weaknesses:

Corners could have just been rounded off or kept less protruding.

Posted Aug 22, 2005 - Overall this keyboard is very geeky, but I love it! It's awesome and its useful for playing games and chatting in the dark. What would the next logical step up be for this keyboard?

5 Star Review Great keyboard

Strengths:

* High build quality * Full-sized keys * Standard layout * High-Tech design * True-Vu Keys * Reasonably priced

Weaknesses:

* No additional multi-media keys * Product availability

Posted Jul 31, 2005 - The Eclipse sports a highly attractive two-tone silver/black design with a tactile feel that is a pleasure to type on. The silver keys on black body look great and the paint is superb. It features the exclusive "True-Vu" keys for visibility in all lighting conditions, but also offers the highest overall quality out of any other model on the market. A must have for all.

2 Star Review Bad Luck or Bad Merchandise?

Strengths:

Great Illumination for those who love playing games in the dark. Great Key Placement. No Horse-Hockey Media Buttons or the like to have to get used to; a HUGE plus!

5 Star Review Saitek Eclipse

Strengths:

Solid construction, Soft type, Awesome Look, Highly effective and cool blue backlight, Simple and effecitve in general

Weaknesses:

Only real weakness is hte backlight doesn't light up the print screen, scroll lock, pause break and numlock buttons too well.

Posted Jul 8, 2005 - I'm typing on the saitek eclipse right now. This keyboard is awesome. The build quality is top notch and feels solid. The keys feel good and they press softly. No more annoying typing noise. The keyboard looks amazing as well. This keyboard has a high "cool factor" with the blue backlight.

5 Star Review The Very Best That You Could Buy....

Strengths:

1. Cool blue underglow to keyboard 2. Good overall feel 3. Nice sound control buttons in corner (+,-,off) 4. Option to dimm the lights

Weaknesses:

1. Some keys are not backlit very well (still noticeable though) 2. Could be made in a different colors 3. Keyboard could be tilted more (larger back support thingies) 4. Can't think of any others!

Posted Jul 17, 2005 - This keyboard is the best that a person could buy for the money. The cool, blue leds underneath the keys are absolutely cool, and the overall good feel of the keys and looks of the keyboard are an added bonus. At this point, I would not buy another keyboard until they come out with ones where every key has an LED in them. For now, this is the absolute best keyboard that you can buy, and I can guarantee that you will not regret buying it!

1 Star Review Avoid the Saitek Eclipse Keyboard

Strengths:

Backlit illumination, nice key response

Weaknesses:

Does NOT work with some KVM switches, paint rubs off of key caps, no USB hub

Posted Aug 13, 2005 - I had problems with the Eclipse keyboard right out of the box. Plugging it into my Iogear Miniview KVM switch locked up the switch. I then tried it with my friend's Belkin KVM switch and that didn't work either. Sure enough, Saitek's forums have complaints about this issue. You may be fine if you don't use a KVM switch or are lucky enough to have a compatible one but a second issue will affect all users- after a month, paint started to wear off the keys. The keys are made of clear plastic covered with silver paint. The lettering is unpainted, letting the letters glow when the keyboard's light is on. The light now shines through where the paint has rubbed off. After a few months, some of the letters are completely obliterated, only clear blobs unreadable even in ambient light. My third complaint is only a nitpick- the keyboard doesn't have any USB ports for additional devices. Ports are common on every other wired USB keyboard I've used so this omission was a letdown.

1 Star Review Worn Keys

Strengths:

Looks nice and keys are a light touch

Weaknesses:

Letters wear off the keys in 6 weeks

Posted Dec 10, 2005 - After using this keyboard for 6 weeks the letters are worn from the keys. It was used in the home by two people neither of which are gamers. There was no owners manual in the packaging so it must be down loaded from Saitek's website. There is no toll free number for customer service. And it took them over two weeks to respond to an email about the problem.

5 Star Review Cant beleive it...

Strengths:

Very soft and noiseless. excellent for gamers.

Weaknesses:

nothing personally seen. but the shape might be a problem for some ppl.

Posted Aug 25, 2005 - Cool lights in dark environments... matches with my gaming computer case... looks great! the better thing about is that it does not need any special software to operate and lights would turn on and off as user decides...

2 Star Review Paint problem

Strengths:

Excellent feel when typing and gaming. Backlighting is quite useful in a dark room.

Weaknesses:

After using for 3 weeks the paint started rubbing off of the A,S,and D keys. These are keys that I use quite a bit for gaming.

Posted Jan 25, 2006 - Overall the keyboard is exactly what I was looking for: a responsive keyboard with backlighting. But,I'm only a fair typist and need to look at the keys here and there, so the paint is a definite issue. Not sure why they didn't do the paintwork on the backside of the keys instead. Would have prevented the paint problem. Contacted them by e-mail and received a response in an hour. They suggested that I mail the keyboard back and they would look into the problem. Don't think this will resolve the paint issue though. If they install the same painted keys, I will probably still have the same problem.

5 Star Review Delivers as promised

Strengths:

LED backlight, good keyboard feel, same layout as our last keyboard

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Jan 6, 2008 - We bought the blue version as a replacement for the desktop in our bedroom. We wanted something that worked at night without another light source. We also wanted something with a good keyboard feel. The keyboard layout was identical to the ones at work so there was zero learning curve. LEDs are the way to go for backlighting - brighter and longer lasting. The Eclipse delivers as promised with a reasonable price as of Nov 07.

3 Star Review Paint will wear off after 1.5 years.

Strengths:

It's cool.

Weaknesses:

The back doesn't rise up very far. After about 1.5 years the paint will wear off.

Posted Sep 17, 2007 - For the price, (it's getting cheaper - yes) but when the paint wears off after 1.5 years, it's kinda annoying. It also has no hotkeys, and for the price. it should.
