4 Star Review Brother PT-1010 Handheld Labeler

Strengths:

Comfortable to hold, quiet operation, variety of tapes available.

Weaknesses:

No light on the display screen; wasted tape with each label.

Posted 1 year ago - I am a first time owner of a labeler and this has proven to be a wonderful tool to get organized. It is very easy to use. I did find that a lot of tape was wasted when printing one label at a time. What I do now is type in my information for a few labels and just leave 2-3 spaces between the different titles. Then I just take a pair of scissors and cut. This does prevent a lot of tape from being wasted. I purchased the industrial tape and now have got my husband involved in the organization of the garage. The printing is concise and easy to read. A great little tool.

4 Star Review Review of PT-1010 Handheld labeler

Strengths:

Able to use several different sizes of tape. Tape cartridges are very easy to take in and out. Type can be adjusted in both height and width. Print appears crisp and sharp.

Weaknesses:

Tape cartridges are expensive. Instructions are tiny and hard to read.

Posted Mar 21, 2008 - Easy to use once you are able to make out the small symbols on the instruction sheet. Very easy to switch cartridges. Comes with a lot of printing options, size and width of tape, symbols, bold, italic, underline, etc. Haven't had it long enough to know how long the batteries last. Takes 6 AAA batteries. Backing on tape is split the length of the tape, making it easy to peel off. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase.

4 Star Review Nice Laberler

Strengths:

Cheap, works well

Weaknesses:

None

Posted 1 year ago - First of all you can run this unit on batteries or an adapter. Of course, the adapter is not included. The labeler seems to drain batteries quickly - I recommend a set of good rechargeable batteries to operate this printer. The labels themselves are very good - the printing is nice, and very durable. I think that you will really enjoy this labeler if you are in the market for one. So this is very good, cheap, well functioning labeler.

4 Star Review Nice little gadget

Strengths:

Durable, quiet, easy to use

Weaknesses:

Waste a lot of space

Posted 1 year ago - This is the first time I own a labeller and I am very happy with this Brother model. It is very easy to use and it makes labeling kitchen staff fun things to. It takes a lot of space when printing, however. And 6 AA batteries used up very quickly. Otherwise, this is a very neat product for every home owner.

4 Star Review Nice printer with decent rubber grip.

Strengths:

small easy to use

Weaknesses:

have not found any. maybe refill the ink?

Posted May 25, 2008 - Bought this one for my wife to print label for kitchen stuff. Well made, pretty small and easy to use. You can select different type sizes, widths and styles. Pretty neat. Good value for the monney. What is cool about it is it can even store up to 9 labels in its memory and it comes with a rubber grip fits your palm perfectly. Have not found anything bad about it. Just do not know whether I can refill the cartrige after it running out of ink.

4 Star Review Brother PT10-10

Strengths:

Different font and print sizes, tape and print color choices, size, label clarity, ease of loading tape cartridges

Weaknesses:

Uses 6 AAA batteries, wastes about an inch of tape with every label, tape cost

Posted May 25, 2008 - Overall this little machine does its job well. Very quiet and very clear when printing. Fairly easy to set up and the menu is much less intimidating after the first few uses. Comes with a sample test tape cartridge to get started. Price shop the tape cartridges as the cost at your local office supply store is probably close to what you pay for the unit itself. Uses 6 AAA batteries fairly quickly so I got the optional AC power supply.

4 Star Review Wonderful little labeler

Strengths:

Hand-held and very easy to use. Nice big letters/numbers and an intuitive setup. Excellent print quality.

Weaknesses:

Heavy. Don't plan on using this for hours on end. Kind of expensive replacement tapes.

Posted Apr 8, 2008 - This is a very good labeler that is replacing a desktop labeler from Brother. This labeler has a wonderfully perfect setup that takes full advantage of one-handed use. The only real problem is the weight of it makes it awkward to handle. Rubber grip is helpful on this problem. Print quality is outstanding!

4 Star Review Owned it for 1 day but HEAVILY used

Strengths:

Quiet operation, simple operating instructions, ergonomic keypad, plenty of style, symbol and font choices

Weaknesses:

Needs 6 AAA's, tape wastage even in narrow mode, no backlighting on display or keypad

Posted Apr 3, 2008 - I bought the PT1010 at the right time. I really required it today and have already run through two reels of tape. Overall its impressive as a workhorse. I've got big hands and the keys responded beautifully. I wasn't fumbling around trying to hit the right key. The printing options are plenty for what I wanted. Fonts, Styles, Sizes and Symbol options are plentiful as well. If you've got a 1/2" inch tape you can print big enough to read from a distance of 10+ feet. Plus its quiet. The tape scroll motor does not whirr like some cheaper devices. The cutting mechanism, while manual, is very clean. Make sure you cut ONLY when the print is completed. Now the bads - this thing requires 6 AAA's. I would've preferred that it run on 4 AA's or a C like some of the other label makers. I cannot make a judgement call on how much you can print on 6 AAA's. Reason being - it really depends on how good your battery's quality is. A cheapo generic brand AAA will last a lot shorter on this one than a AAA Ultra Duracell. So its incorrect to judge the printer on those grounds. Second negative - even when the printing width is set to "narrow", it wastes a lot of tape when it feeds out. So each narrow label still had a lot of unused tape to the left hand side because the feed is well ahead of the printer head. Kinda painful but it may not matter to you if you plan on center aligning your text. Finally - if you're in a dark environment or dimly lit environment - well good luck reading the matrix screen or the keypad. No backlit display which I think should be an option on this workhorse. It wouldn't be too hard and its certainly been done before on electronic devices with similar displays.
