Good, Solid RAM At A Decent Price

Posted Jan 25, 2006 - What can I say about RAM? It either works or doesn't. But, seriously, I was looking for a decent price on 1 GB of PC3200 RAM and found this Kingston KVR400X64C3A/1G on sale a ZipZoomFly.com for under $85, including 2nd day delivery. I've used Kingston RAM before in a wide variety of motherboards and settings and found it to be stable, reliable and a very good value; so I grabbed it. It's worked fine on my Gigabyte GA-7VT600 motherboard running an Athlon XP 3200+ @ 400 Mhz FSB for a couple of weeks now. For the record, at the time I also picked up a 512 MB module for under $44 (also 2nd day delivery), and it's been running fine on an Asus A7V600-F motherboard. If you're really going to push overclocking/tweaking, you'll probably want to spend a bit more money and get the faster CL/CAS 2/2.5 RAM; but for most users, this one will suit you just fine and save you a bit of money.

Kingston 1GB PC3200 Memory

Strengths:

What can you say other than it's Kingston. Excellent product as well as a no hassle lifetime warranty.

Weaknesses:

None that I have found.

Posted Jan 7, 2006 - This was installed on a ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Motherboard. It is on the recommended list for memory from ASUS. 2 sticks, 1 GB each, was installed and works flawlessly. The important thing with memory, especially with the newer faster motherboards, is to get memory that's recommended and tested by the motherboard manufacturer. This results in a much smoother running system.

The Kingston memory comes with a lifetime warranty ...

Strengths:

Works as specified. Very easy to install into computer. Kingston tech support is great compared to Consair (nobody answers the phone). They directed me to the right part #.

Weaknesses:

Kingston website is not organized well. So looking for a part # for my particular unlisted motherboard is hard.

Posted Aug 19, 2004 - The Kingston memory comes with a lifetime warranty and the memory was very easy to install into my computer. No extreme problems putting into the DIMM slot. The memory was shipped in a secure plastic cover to prevent it from being damaged with instructions on installation. I had installed mines with the Patriot Memory (512MB) so now I have 1.5GB and all is working fine. No problem whatsoever.

Kingston PC3200 DDR 400 1GB

Strengths:

Ease of installation, PC3200 still used on many motherboards today

Weaknesses:

Somewhat slow in speed compared to DDR2 counterparts.

Posted Jan 7, 2006 - One of the more common ram upgrades for todays motherboards. For the price and universal use, I highly recommend this product to anyone plus Kingston is a great all around brand.

Posted Jan 15, 2006 - We bought this RAM for a PC system we were building. It was a little pricier than other memory sticks at this quality level, but our cheap motherboard was only compatible with a limited number of RAM sticks. The memory worked fine though.

Posted Jan 29, 2005 - Easy to install no problems. Very fast RAM for a value series. No problems with setup and compatible with a MSI Neo Platinum Motherboard. I highly reccomend upgrading your system.

Great memory

Strengths:

Price, compatible with NF4K8AB Motherboard, lifetime warranty and Kingston has a good website.

Weaknesses:

None that I can think of.

Posted 1 year ago - Installed easy and passed memory diagnostic test. This 1GB memory runs faster than the two 512MB's that it replaced. I've always used Kingston memory and never had a failure with them.

Posted Feb 18, 2006 - Well... this is an awesome 1 GB RAM if you really think about how you spend money. The thing is, it's not gonna support overclocking. From my side, I never ever think of overclocking my processor as I believe it's the best the way it is. So if you are thinking on the same line... just go for it..

Posted Jan 27, 2006 - This Memory is a good value. Performed as it should. Easy to Install. Have not seen any overheating issues. I will buy this again so that I can benifit from Dual Channel Memory setup. Definately Recommended.

DDR memory is very easy to install. Performs as specified

Weaknesses:

Cannot be overclocked. SOme mobo manufacturers and won't support "Value RAM". If you want to run Dual Channel memory, you will need to manually match exact chip specs

Posted Jan 14, 2006 - Memory is the the easiest of all hardware upgrades. And kingston memory is no different. Web based installation guides are plentiful Like all PC3200 memory, this will "step down" to PC2700 or PC2100 if that's what your computer needs. The downsides: 1. As ValueRam do not plan on overclockin 2. If you want to run Dual Channel (if supported by your mobo), you will need to manually match all the chip specs to ensure that they're identical. (i.e. Kingston does not sell two in a package that are "certified" to run dual channell) Bottom Line: For my money, outstanding price performance backed by Kingston Warrantee

Strengths:

Seems well designed with aluminum heat sinks on both sides of DIMM

Weaknesses:

One corner of heat sink at edge of DIMM was bent -- apparently through mishandling in shipment

Posted Apr 5, 2005 - I bought a pair of these DIMMs to replace a single flaky PC2700 DIMM in my Dell Dimension 4800C. No problems with the installation. System powered up fine and no crashes so far. Seems like this new memory has solved my crash problems.
