Strengths:

Size, weight, power, prebundled software, peripheral connectivity / compatibility.

Weaknesses:

Battery life

Posted Feb 26, 2005 - I have been a x86 user for 15 years, and have a faster Mhz x86 machine sitting next to this Mac. I don't want to use my x86 anymore. The Mac is just smooth, sleek, friendly. Macs do crash...just usually not fatally (requiring a hard/reboot). If you receive an error message be prepared to scratch your head at the lack of clarity/missing description. It took me the better part of a half hour to figure out that I had to put a '$' in front of my WEP key to access my wireless network. Backlit keyboard, and monitor that automatically adjust to lighting conditions, built in microphone recorder / controller are slick features. Easy to hook up my DV camcorder, digital cameras, and other peripherals. iLife comes with the new Macs, and includes a great program for family DV editing, and simple photo editing. My x86 work laptop can accept multiple batteries simultaneously so hot swapping batteries without shutting down / plugging in is a breeze, but this adds to the x86s weight and size. Expect about 3 hours of battery life. Me likey...no more x86ey. Do not purchase unless willing to cut your x86 ties out of jealousy.

Strengths:

Beautiful Look, Light and thin, quick boot up time, and very stable. Comes with all the bells and whistles

Weaknesses:

Gap between the screen and keyboard when lid is closed. Potential to allow dust into the unit

Posted Dec 19, 2004 - I have been strictly a PC person for the better part of 10 years. This is my first Mac and I am amazed how much better a machine it is. Has all the ports you will ever need to connect any type of attachment. The OS X interface is very easy to use, even for people with little or no previous computer experience. The backlite keyboard is wonderful when working in dark places such as on planes, and the speed and stability of this laptop is just too good to be true. Applications such as iphoto, idvd, imovie, garageband, and ichat make this not only a strong machine but a fun machine as well. It is really nice to be able to just do things without having to figure out how to do them first. I would highly recommend this laptop to anyone as long as you can handle the rather high price tag. You get what you pay for and this is well worth your investment.

Strengths:

Looks beautiful, and works beautifully.

Weaknesses:

Maybe slightly expensive, but nothing else has all the features that this does.

Posted Aug 22, 2004 - The best purchase I have ever made. The screen is lovely, the boot-up time is phenomenal, and the integration between the operating system (Mac OS X) and the bundled applications (iTunes, iDVD, iMovie, iPhoto, Garageband etc.) is just amazing. In short, just what I'd expect from Apple.

Weaknesses:

Posted Nov 26, 2004 - Best left in the off position. Over rated. Notebook has many options that do not function. When the unit comes on you can not see the screen. I imagine their is something wrong with the active matrix. Called for customer support to discuss this problem. Have been advisef its normal. Go figure.

1 Star Review Don't be fooled by it's cool looks or hysterical fans of Apple!

Strengths:

Nice design, decent graphics

Weaknesses:

Unstable, unreliable, lack of system access & tools, poor hardware quality. Fails when you need it most.

Posted Mar 7, 2007 - From the beginning, the CPU was overheating after more than an hour of constant power-on. It always caused the system to freeze. The notebook had 1 year warranty. Right after the warranty expired, the hard drive failed, burying about 30GB of the data I once feared to trust to PC. Once I've tried to connect it to external HDD. It simply shredded all the data making the entire partition unrecoverable, even though the drive was previously formatted by and for OSX. The operating system is no more stable than any later version of Windows, in fact it seems the opposite. Programs often get "unexpectedly quit", and we're talking about well-known retail versions. Their tech-support is useless, unless OF COURSE you wish to spend a big bucks just for an advice. I've also tried one of their "official" service centers found at apple.com. Guess what? It's a private house with poor tenants having now idea of what's written in the printout. Enough said. In short, what a piece of crap! Never trust Apple! These guys are joke and so is their production! They better make iPods and toothbrushes than something worth thousands of dollars. It is true that Macs used to be a standard. Sadly, not anymore! I will never-ever buy another such piece of scum from this company. Wish R.I.P. their entire computer line.
