The Satellite A135 Series is economically priced with technology you will value. Systems feature Intel processors for optimal performance. There is big memory for all your mp3s, work, picture and video files. All systems feature an 15.4-inch diagonal WXGA TruBrite display adding the WOW factor to games and movies! Toshiba's DVD SuperMulti optical drive reads and writes up to 11 formats, including DVD-RAM which acts like an optical HDD! (DVD-RAM media required). 4 Star Review good laptop for the money

Strengths:

affordable, well built (little/no flexing), vista home premium, display, large hdd for the price, vista install media included, lighter than previous laptop (inspiron 6000), sleeps & wakes properly!

Weaknesses:

integrated video, weak battery, comes with 2x512mb ram rather than 1x1gb.

Posted Aug 1, 2007 - bought this laptop to replace a dell inspiron 6000 laptop. for a little more than $500 this laptop is a good deal. planning to use this system for web/email, word processing, and some excel. out of the box performance is more than acceptable. as with all laptops this day i had to uninstall all the software toshiba pre-installed, though i have to say, it wasn't all that bad... i think i was done in 30 mins. toshiba has designed this laptop well, i barely ever notice the fan going on. the wifi on off switch is an excellent addition. the sleep feature works! i wish the battery lasted longer, but i digress. i've gone ahead and upped the ram to 2gb as i had a 1gb chip in my last laptop & bought another one for $40. one last thing i think that is worth mentioning: every time you turn the laptop on it performs a full memory check (that's not defeatible), this adds to boot time, which seems excessive as is.

1 Star Review I dont know

Strengths:

a lot of features

Weaknesses:

gets too hot. start up slow. LAPTOP STOPPED WORKING AFTER 4 MONTHS!

Posted Oct 20, 2007 - HI I bought this laptop on sale at bestbuy for 599 april 2007. I have checked often since then, and have not found it cheaper since then, so I know I got a good deal. Now the laptop has a lot of features. I liked the dvd-rw-cd rom drive thing. I also loved the 5 in 1 media card reader. All you have to do after you take pictures with your digital camera is stick the memory card in the laptop and view/save pics to laptop. Now the bad things are that its gets too hot too quickly. the start up is slow. and AFTER 4 MONTHS IT STOPPED WORKING! THE SCREEN SAID THERE WAS NO HARD DISK FOUND. I quickly googled "toshiba hard disk" and hundreds of complaints about the computer simply not working for no reason. and people complaining about the warranty not being honored. I had a dell laptop for 6 years and i have had no problems, its just way to heavy now. Well i called toshiba and they told me to bring it to the service place and it will be fixed for free. On the net i read that toshiba tries to find a reason for the malfunction to be your fault. I will complete my review to let you know what happens. if you cant wait email me at natalie4natalie@aol.com and i will tell u the ending. in the future i would google any item i would want to buy before i buy.

4 Star Review Good Value Laptop

Strengths:

Wireless out of the box. Big screen with the hard lens protection. Plenty of HDD space, loaded out of the box.

Weaknesses:

No bluetooth, Slow boot,

Posted Mar 26, 2008 - I bought mine probably back in May of 07 for around $600. I bought mine at circuit city and had them do the optimization. (clean up of all those pesky loaded programs) I'll pay someone that way if they mess up and delete something they shouldn't its they're fault and they can fix it. The screen is big and in widescreen format with a hard shell protector that prevents you from wrecking the lcd display with but touching it. (like when you touch a calculator screen. I converted to wireless and used this to replace a damaged HP (fell off the couch and broke the LCD screen) and a desktop. I don't do any gaming on it so it suit my purposes perfectly. I've loaded over 125 cd's and hundreds of pictures on it and still have 75G of harddrive space left. The Nuetrals: I've read complaints about the battery I tend to plug mine in at home, so I havn't noticed too much of an issue with the battery life but I do think 2 hours is a little on the low side. Slow boot. I know why it takes awhile because it does a complete memory scan. I recommend using the sleep option when you can. mine restarts instantly when I do this. Sometimes though at night when its real quite I can hear the fan clicking on and I'll do a full power down though. Wireless G. its good but I run a Linksys WRT300N I connect on average at 52MBPS which isn't obviously the full capability of the N. But G works fine usually sometimes it won't recognize my router however or say I'm connected with limited connectivity. I usually turn off the wireless switch on the front and that typically solves the problem. (this may be because the router is an N) The negatives (or what I'd like to see) Bluetooth. would be awesome for VIOP or internet gaming. I've had one major issue with my laptop I left it out in my car overnight on a cold night when I started it up the next morning indoors. I received a corrupt drive notice after a few days of fiddling with it and talking to tech support on the phone I got the laptop working again however I no longer have access to the Windows media center can't play any of my music and lost some pictures. This very well may be my fault (condensation on the hdd maybe?) So the solution is instead of paying best Buy 80 bucks for a back up I found an awesome deal at CC and purchased a 320G My book external harddrive. With back up the important data on that and do a system restore with the restore disk that comes with it. Hope this helps other informed consumers

4 Star Review Excellent product for the price

Strengths:

Bright display, good performance, 4xUSB and firewire, very inexpensive for the features (on sale @$599.00)

Weaknesses:

Battery life, video graphics card

Posted May 6, 2007 - Purchased in Best Buy at $599. At the moment I was looking for the most inexpensive solution to replace my old R40 IBM Thinkpad but I am impressed with the features packed into this laptop. The screen is bright and big. Keyboard is good with multimedia keys. Sound is ok. Performance running Vista Home Premium is very good. Comes loaded with programs that you will quickly uninstall. It runs very quiet and does not heat like my old R40. Beware of underside fan intake if you use it on your lap. Battery life was just about 2 hours for DVD playback, but for browsing and minor computing tasks I have squeezed an extra 30 minutes. Extended battery option is extremely expensive only available from Toshiba at $170+shipping for an extra hour...not worth it. Excellent Wi-Fi range.

4 Star Review Toshiba Satellite Notebook PC A135-S4527

Strengths:

1.7GHZ Processor, 1 GB Memory,120 gb Harddrive, stylish look.has extra buttons in keyboard for playing audio cd's

Weaknesses:

Low Battery Life, vista boots very slow, hard drive speed less

Posted May 16, 2007 - I brought this Toshiba Satellite Notebook PC A135-S4527 as it was being offered at a great deal. It comes with the google sidebar which is irritating and many other programs, but the good thing is you can uninstall it. it has a card reader, which help you to load all the picture and data file from the card to the laptop. but overall looking at all specifications no other company provides at this price.

4 Star Review Great right out of the box!

Strengths:

Large display (15.4"), lightweight and wireless ready.

Weaknesses:

Touch pad a little sensitive. Too many trial versions of software loaded.

Posted Jun 25, 2007 - Great laptop straight out of the box. Setup was seamless. Wireless connection was flawless. This is my third laptop and it's faster, larger and lighter than my previous Dell and Toshiba. Plenty of HDD space to load all my music and pics. Overall a great machine. I'd buy it again tomorrow.

5 Star Review GREAT FOR THE PRICE

Strengths:

Price, processor, OS, size & weight, keyboard

Weaknesses:

Doesn't have pre-N wireless, Battery life

Posted Jun 8, 2007 - This is a great laptop for the price. 1GB memory with Home Premium when others in this price range are only 512M and come with Home Basic OS. The screen is bright and colors vivid. Size is good if you're going to carry it around (the 17" screen computers are heavy). 4 USBs should handle most requirements. The power cord transformer brick is a bit smaller than others, adding to the convenience of portability. I tried several keyboards and this one felt the best to the touch and typing was natural. I'm planning to use this as a desktop replacement.

4 Star Review Toshiba A135-S474527 Review

Strengths:

Toshiba reliability and user friendliness

Weaknesses:

Short Battery life. Should have to pay another $125 to have a computer operate over 2 hours. Tooooo many canned programs to delete to free up memory.

Posted Jun 29, 2007 - The transition of files from a Windows XL OS computer to the Windows Vista Home Premium is a pain. I have had to do a System Restore several times to get my old data into the new format. NOT IMPRESSED WITH VISTA-SO FAR

4 Star Review A Pleasant Surprise

Strengths:

Lightweight, power, memory, screen clarity

Weaknesses:

none for me yet

Posted Jun 20, 2007 - We provide a laptop to a missionary from India who comes and teaches for 4 months a year. Our previous laptop was 4 years old and weighed about 10 pounds and had way more than he would ever use. I spent a lot of time on consumer reports and other review spots looking for a computer that was reasonable, portable, durable and would serve our purpose for a few years. This one received a great rating from consumer reports and got great reviews from pleasantly surprised purchasers on other sites. I found it at Circuit City for a good price and a rebate to boot! After receiving it, I was thrilled with the weight (or lack thereof) and clarity, etc. I had read one review about a loud fan...but mine is so quiet you wouldn't know it was running if it wasn't lit up. Our needs are pretty basic for the internet and word processing, etc. We do create some fairly simple power point presentations...but don't do any heavy duty gaming or music downloads or things like that. This was an ideal purchase for us.

4 Star Review Excellent specs, great laptop

Strengths:

1gb ram ,120gb hdd, Vista home premium

Weaknesses:

battery life

Posted Jun 6, 2007 - I got a great deal from Circuit city without any rebates. Now the price has gone up but performance wise it is a great deal and you can not get a TOSHIBA with this specs for this price. Battery life is the complaint but other than that it is fast, Vista premium package is great.

5 Star Review Good Buy

Strengths:

Windows Vista, 120GB hard drive, DVD burner, ice price

Weaknesses:

Little slow processer

Posted Jul 3, 2007 - This was a steal buy for me. I was able to find this computer in Circuit city for $525 after taxes. This is my first Toshiba product and I should say I am very happy with this computer. I have been using this for about only a week and I have made movie and song edits using this laptop with mo complaints what so ever. For the price, the features it holds are unmatchable. 1GB RAM and 120 GB hard drive space with dvd burner for $525? It has to be a steal. I would highly recommend this laptop to anyone that I not looking for an expensive laptop but yet have most of the good features.

4 Star Review A Good Laptop for a Decent Price

Strengths:

Design with more USB ports, Black color

Weaknesses:

Vista OS, Low battery life, No bluetooth

Posted Jun 14, 2007 - Its light weight and I like the black color of my new laptop. The system performance is not that great since its preloaded with Vista. Eventhough, I havent faced any driver issues or system crash,it takes time to boot. Considering the price, I would recomment this laptop to anyone. The keyboard is not that great because of the space between the keys as dirt can get in easily.

Weaknesses:

No Bluetooth, short battery life

Posted Jul 10, 2007 - This entry level notebook is ideal for kids who need notebook in very affordable price. It comes with dual processor with memory is 1GB MB. It can handle most basic need. I removed most “unwanted” trial software then the system runs in acceptable speed.

4 Star Review Full-featured laptop for a great price

Strengths:

Nice, bright 15-inch screen, spacious hard drive, DVD burner, Pentium processor, very affordable price after rebate!

Weaknesses:

Short battery life, comes with too many junk programs preloaded, no built-in webcam

Posted Oct 18, 2007 - Got this laptop for $450+tax after rebate! Works great out of the box. Comes with the usual ensemble of features for the latest laptops, including spacious hard drive, Windows Vista Premium, DVD burner, Wi-fi. Upgraded to 2GB RAM for another fifty bucks and Vista runs like a charm. Only things missing are built-in webcam and bluetooth. But for less than 500 bucks I can't really complain...

4 Star Review Good laptop for the price

Strengths:

The 1GB, windows vista runs awsome.....

Weaknesses:

Battery isn´t strong at all....

Posted Jun 19, 2007 - I have had this notebook for a few days and just bouhgt a second one online and I am pleased with it. Vista runs great with the 1GB of memory. The screen is wide and clear, no glare and is not too bright. Lots of USB ports- not too much pre-installed software. My only issue is the battery- it does not last very long. I think the laptop was well worth the money- has a lot of features, and it is on sale with plenty of rebates.
