4 Star Review Sony Laptop Review

Strengths:

nice screen, great design, not too heavy for a 15.4".

Weaknesses:

battery life. power port location.

Posted Dec 10, 2007 - I had a Toshiba that broke and under my service plan i was able to replace it; i decided to go with this Sony; after a lot of "shopping review". overall I am happy with the laptop and with the brand. It has a beautiful screen, the design is really cool and has great graphics, its really quick & silent. the only two negative things that i found are the battery which takes for ever to charge completlly and then in aprox two hours its over!!! It takes more to charge than what it really last. The second thing is the location of the power port. it should be in the back of the laptop not in one of the sides. i will recommend this machine to someone that will use it in a place with electricity, because of the issue with the life of the battery.

5 Star Review Nice laptop but the Windows Vista is disappointing as usual.

Strengths:

Stylish, thin, light and is packed with all the necessary things.

Weaknesses:

Windows Vista.

Posted Dec 22, 2007 - Sony's stuff always has the stylish looking. The computer has pretty high standard hardware such as processor and memory. Also, the 800 Mhz FSB delivers the great speed. I have used other windows Vista Laptops but this Laptop is faster than the one i have used earlier.

3 Star Review Good computer but don't like Windows Vista

Strengths:

Stylish, thin and light

Weaknesses:

Windows Vista

Posted Dec 6, 2007 - Sony's stuff always has the stylish looking. So does this VAIO VGN-FZ240E/B Notebook. The silver top is prone to scraches and dirt though. So you should have a bag prepared. The computer has pretty high standard hardware such as processor and memory. The audio and video are integrated but is good enough if you are not a game person. However, I don't like the Windows Vista operating system. It is much slower than XP (for doing the same thing. Very obviously when I tried to copy a 600 MB file to a USB flash drive). And I checked the task manager. It showed the backgound usage of memory is 1 GB, half of the total physical memory, while XP only uses 500 MB. Besides this, there are also some software compatibility issues for Vista. Microsoft really need improve it.

1 Star Review Sony Vaio is JUNK

Strengths:

Nice hardware and lightweight

Weaknesses:

Vista makes it unusable. Sony makes it very difficult to install XP and they say it can't be upgraded to Windows 7. What a useless expensive piece of crap. I will never buy Sony anything ever again.

Posted 1 month ago - Expensive Sony laptop is unusable with Vista. Spent a bunch of money and time upgrading and performing clean install of Vista and downloaded latest drivers and upgraded RAM to 4GB and it is still useless. Wish I bought a Mac or Dell. Sony computers are JUNK. Sony support is horrible, drivers are almost non-existent, they refuse to have drivers to support Windows 7, refuse to tell how to downgrade to XP. No more Sony anything for me. Screwed one to many times by Sony junk.
