LAPTOP Magazine's 1st Annual Notebook Decathlon
Posted Aug 6, 2005 - We put ten thin and light laptops through the grinder to find out which one has the speed, endurance, and durability you need in the real world.
We have to confess. Most of the laptop reviews in this magazine are missing something. We may publish the most comprehensive laptop reviews in the world, but they are missing one piece of information. In fact, none of the reviews in any magazine mention this. We refer of course to a little thing called durability.
Even the fastest laptop with the biggest screen will turn into the world’s priciest paperweight if it cannot withstand some bumps and bruises. No matter how careful we are, our laptops are eventually going to get dropped, stepped on, doused, or left out in the car overnight when it’s 20 below.
To correct this omission, we now present our first annual Notebook Decathlon. Here, we supplement our usual laptop tests with a grueling durability gauntlet. In this article, laptops don’t simply run the risk of coming in last place, they risk not finishing at all.
