True to the Ferrari Legend

Strengths: Looks great, performs well, very sturdy, good functionality.

Weakness: Hardware issues - needs to go to the shop regularly. Ever seen a car under a tarp on the back of a flatbed? Try a Fedex box with this thing.

I love this laptop but experienced problems right out of the box. Acer fixed those problems within a few days but now there are more. I think I may have picked the lemon of the lot. The video display

Amazing Laptop

Strengths: Amazing power, looks, anf build quality

Weakness: PC-2700 RAM, laggy mouse, FAT32, and high price

The Acer Ferrari is an amazing laptop to view and use. Check out the many complete reviews online. The pictures of the laptop don't do it justice. First impression of the laptop is WOW. Carbon fiber "hood", red accents, and ruberized deck look impressive. Once you power it up the 1680z1050 screen is very bright and detailed (I had 0 dead pixels). This laptop is not all looks and no brains. The system is powered by a Turion ML-34 (2.0 ghz, 1MB cache, 35W), 1 Gig of PC2700 ram, and 128MB X700 video card. Storage is handled by 100GB hard drive and slot loaded DVD+-R Dual layer drive.

The laptop has built in bluetooth, gigabit ethernet, and 802.11g wireless. I have used the laptop both at home and on the road. For office work it is amazing. The widescreen, and large memory allow me to work with multiple apps and windows with no delay. I use the wireless to connect to my lan at home and work (both protected by WPA) and haven't had a problem. I even use the bluetooth to tether my verizon phone when on the road. This allows me to connect to internet @ 250-400K when there is no LAN or hotspot.

As far as gaming I have played Half Life 2. I dropped the screen from native to 1680x1050 to 1280x800 to boost frame rate. I had no issues and found the widescreen play to be great fun (I wished more games supported wdidescreen natively).

The laptop is not without faults. Acer built system with PC2700 RAM. I figure this causes an unecessary 5-10% drop in performance, as all turions support PC3200. Likely I will boost the ram to 2 GIG (2x1Gig) and upgrade it to PC3200 as I hear BF2 runs better with 2 Gig.

The bluetooth mouse is very laggy and needs 10-15 seconds to wake up. Great idea on paper but acer ruined it with a piece of garbage. I don't even take it with me anymore. I am using an older wired travel mouse. I am looking for a quality BT mouse to replace the acer one.

The laptop fan runs 100% of the time. The turion drops voltage and speed when not needed (for example it is running at 800mhz right now), however the fan never cuts off. The fan is not noisy, it is very quiet actually but I think acer could have designed a solution that when LT is running at 800mhz it could cut off fan when cpu is cool. Most of the time the fan pushes cold air and that is just a waste of battery power.

Acer also formated the laptop in 3 FAT32 partitions. Acer built in recovery software requires FAT32. The laptop has Microsoft Pro but no full cd. The laptops (like all laptops) are loaded with junk that is bloatware.

I solved the above flaws by deleting all partitions, partitioning as NTFS and putting on a clean install of win xp pro. Now I already have xp pro media, and I know how to use ghost for custom backup so it wasn't a problem for me but some users may be stuck with Acer's poor setup.

Despite the few flaws I have found this laptop to be an amazing system. The price is high ($1900-$2100) but I consider it money well spent. This laptop is also a big win for AMD. The turion shows AMD can compete with Intel at the high end not just in the $600 bargin notebooks.

It is hard to describe but this laptop feels built well. The laptop has no flex or creak to it. It feels solid even when picked up one handed. The touchpad and keyboard feel high quality and are very easy to work long hours on. I can't really describe it well but it simply feels beter than the Dell 6000 (my most recent laptop purchase)

If you are looking for a lighr and powerful system in the $2000 range you need to look no further.

I orderer an acer 4005 it should be here later this week. I have a question. I want to transfer a ghost image to the acer. I normally use ghost from inside windows xp with an external usb drive. If I do this with the acer it will have 3 partitions. I don't want any partitions and I don't have a full version of windows xp just the oem restore version that came with my toshiba computer. If I goto fdisk and delete the partitions how will I get norton ghost to restore the image from a usb drive and dos?

Thanks

Velocissimo e Bellissimo (Fast and Beautiful)

Strengths: Lightning fast, great looks, carbon fiber, XP Pro SP2, Slot load drive, great wireless, lightweight.

Weakness: Fussy Bluetooth mouse and scant documentation, more software would have been nice, Norton Antivirus should have been at least 1 year instead of 90 days. Somewhat expensive but comes fully loaded.

I had been searching for a desktop replacement laptop computer for several months. I was always attracted to the Acer Ferrari line, but thought it was too expensive. Every other computer I looked at fell short in some category. One had all the bells and whistles but the video memory was SHARED, one had dedicated video but came with XP Home, one had lots of RAM and a large hard disk but had the DVD/CD-RW combo drive. OK you get the point. The cosmetic features are absolutely flawless: I love the carbon fiber, bright red streaks (would have loved more red), rubbery feel, curved keyboard, and especially the slot-load DVD/CD drive. Display is magnificent and very bright -- in fact this morning I had a power outage and, having no candles or flashlights, turned on my laptop for emergency lighting while getting ready for work at 4am. For anyone considering a desktop replacement notebook: don't even waste your time comparison shopping -- get this notebook NOW!! The extra money spent is well worth it. This baby is even future-proof since it has a 64-bit processor and is ready for Windows XP64.
Only a couple of slight negatives: The Bluetooth mouse sometimes leaves a little to be desired, 2 hard drive partitions formatted in FAT32 and not NTFS (but this conversion is made easily), the speakers don't seem to be of prime quality like the rest of the components (some HP notebooks have nice Altec Lansing speakers with the front face at an angle) but nevertheless provide adequate sound, but nothing that a discriminating audiophile would approve of. Software bundle somewhat lacking, especially the Norton Antivirus with only 90 days. But I have since acquired the McAfee suite with a 1-year subscription. Even Dell gives you 12 or 15 months (though sometimes for an extra few bucks - and we know that the Acer Ferrari can't be customized to meet your specific needs, but then again it has everything). The 1GB of RAM is in 2 modules of 512MB. It is my understanding that the memory must be in identical pairs (ie 2x512MB or 2x1GB) so that means that in order to upgrade to 2GB of RAM one would have to buy (2) 1GB memory modules. A single drive letter for the hard disk and a 7200 RPM drive would have been nice also. Tired of the touchpad (especially for games) and frustrated with the piece-of-junk bluetooth mouse, I bought a $20 Microsoft Optical Mouse (USB) that I use full-time and am very happy with.
All in all, great machine. Games are AWESOME and photos from the digital camera and in Photoshop are nice to look at also. I will have a hard time finding a carrying case deserving of such a machine. Get it NOW and enjoy!!

It is a super computer. which has great look and finish.

one of the best

Strengths: good performance,good battery

Weakness: crappy bluetooth mouse.

as you have been reading so far about this notebook, it is a very good looking one, probably the best looking laptop so far not only the "hood" that`s made out of carbonfiber with the Ferrari logo on it, but also with it`s 15.4` display.
i`m using it for architectural developement software, and i have to say it`s almost as good as my desktop pc.i really dont feel the diference when working on a big project that needs a lot of memory and that`s because of the 2gb of it that my notebook has.
at first i had to install a fresh copy of windows xp pro and to repartition the hdd, creating 2 NTFS partitions.
the only thing thats been budering me from the start was the ferrari bluetooth mouse that came with it; when working in architectural desktop or other architectural software it`s like trying to write in a sheet or paper with o treetrunk.
so, in my oppinion, the ferrari acer 4005wLMi was a good investment.

Acer Ferrari 4005

Strengths: Beautiful,Ultra-fast and furious,Great Price for most specifications,Gorgeous,Sturdy,Carbon-fiber

Weakness: None

The Acer Ferrari Laptop 4005 is indeed one of the best ever laptops i have ever used so far(8),It is Stylish,Elegant,Sleek and full of power.A complete desktop replacement.Stunning screen with crystal crisp displays. It won't let you down with the fastest and most sophisticated games you can play.Very light and elegant. The only bad thing about it is the Blue-Tooth mouse and key-pad which is not very sensitive and soft to touch.Otherwise a perfect gaming machine. Its beauty is second only to Toshiba Qosmio G-25.
gO AND SNATCH IT WITHOUT GIVING IT A SECOND THOUGHT.

Acer Ferrari 4000

True to its sports car branding and Italian high styling, the Ferrari 4000 from Acer is an extremely fast notebook with a killer redesign. Instead of sticking with its loud all-red chassis, this system scores style points with a more subdued, but sexy checkered black carbon fiber casing and rubberized material surrounding the keyboard (don’t worry, some Ferrari-red accents remain).

The...
